4 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 04/08/2014

A vehicle in front of my 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt quickly applied their brakes which caused my daughter to quickly apply hers thus causing her to hit the rear of the vehicle in front of her. The air bags immediatly deployed. My son, who was in the passenger seat, noticed within seconds of the crash that the engine was on fire. He had to quickly unhook both his and my daughters seat belt so they could evacuate the vehicle before the cabin caught fire. Once my daughter was able to relax and gather herself and tell me what she had remembered about the accident, she told me that it was very difficult to apply the brakes and it didn't seem like it was stopping as quickly as usual. I ask her if she thought that the car had stalled prior to the accident and she stated that she didn't know what it would feel like to have a car stall while she was driving. I am unsure as to, number one, why the engine caught fire immediatly after a 35mph impact and two, why was it very difficult for my daughter to push on the brake pedal to stop at a time when you need to trust your vehicle the most????.

5 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 04/06/2014

My daughter was on her way to work and was unable to stop andhit the rear end of the vehicle in front of her. The car shut off. . . She did what the recall was told to do and had just the key in the ignition. . . Luckily she was able to turn on the car to get out of traffic and she was not going too fast the seatbelts did not work and the airbag did not work as well. . Also before we knew about the recall her ignition was messing up by not able to completely turn off while in park and key would not come out. . . We have to shift gears and turn off and on the car to get the key loose. . . So now we are down a car, I paid the car in full and its now not drivable. . . ??.

6 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 11/21/2013

2008 Cobalt, gave us no indication of problems. Now dealer is saying this 5 year old car may have slipped it's timing belt and destroyed it's head and valves requiring a new motor. This should be recalled because chevy does not recommend timing chain maintenance at a set mileage. It's supposed to last. The fact that such a big engine failure can happen to so many of these cars just 5 month after warranty end at 90 thousand miles makes this a design flaw in my opinion.

8 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 01/27/2009

My stepbrother had two chevy Cobalts. The first one he wrecked on a country road where he skidded on gravel, his car burst into flames. Fortunately, he was able to get out of the car. He replaced it with another Cobalt. In January 2009 he had another wreck, single car. His car hit a pole and immediately broke out in flames. Unfortunately for my family he was not able to get out, he couldn't get his seat belt undone and the flames were melting the interior causing caustic flames. The policeman broke out the back window to get him out and the policeman was hospitalized from smoke inhalation my brother didn't make it, he died. I believe this should be checked out. I wrote to Chevrolet with no response.
