This issue seems to be a common problem with the 2005 Cobalt. Please research any car complaint websites about this certain vehicle. Even though all the recalls have been taken care of, while in motion, at any time and any speed, the dash lights starts flashing and you get the message power steering on message center, tc light comes on, light that shows padlock symbol comes on, rpm needle jumps up and down, steering wheel locks up, motor surges and shakes, and you hear all types of clicking sounds below gear shifter. This is a very dangerous thing and Chevrolet/gm just cannot seem to fix this issue or even find anything wrong. The 2005 Cobalt needs to be recalled and any other year of Cobalt having this issue. I will give you below the last date this has happened, but this has went on since we got the car in 2008. My daughter is in school in kansas city, and this issue has happened quite frequently lately. The only remedy is to pull to side of road, shut off vehicle and restart and hope it does not act up again. I just wonder how may deaths have happened already because of this faulty gm product and no one knew it was because of what the Cobalt did, locked up on its driver.

I was driving the car in the city street when the engine light came on. I continue to drive the car when I start hearing click sound than I hear bell sound come from the car. The car wouldn't go any faster than 40 mile hr & the gauges were jumping all over the place. I continue to drive the car then the words "power steering" came on where my mileage would show. All of the recalls have been repaired and something still wrong with this car. I asked gm to take look at the car without charging(money) to see if it is relative to the recall. The dealership said they couldn't tell if they would charged me money or not.
On Saturday March 29th 2014 I had my recall fixed on the power steering at ryan chevorlet here in minot nd. I get it fixed and parked my car at home until Monday April 1st I am driving down the highway and come to a stop light then I began to hear a clicking noise in my dashboard then a notification pops up for my traction control. As I start to move my speedometer is moving from 10 to 20 but im barely going 5. My rpm's are going up also then a notification for my power steering comes up then im worried. I get to my destination and my power steering goes out and I can not turn the vehicle and it shuts completely off. I try to turn it on and it turns over just doesnt start. I call the chevy dealer here and they say they will take a look at it. They had my vehicle for a while just to tell me my car needed gas. Does this make sense or am I being fooled? I have research this issue and it seems like it has happened before to other people. Could someone help me?.
My most important issue with my 2008 Cobalt lt is that my engine is gone which I think is horrible and I purchased this car brand new I have been the only owner and have taking very good care of my vehicle, I will never buy a gm product again, through reading all the complaints I cant believe this vehicle hasn't been recalled my car started shaking really bad, and making a loud ticking noise, it was very hard to stop and also steer my vehicle I could have been in a very fatal crash or anything! my car also has the same issue about the speakers they go in and out and work when they want to. But my main issue is my engine in which my car I is longer under warranty and the dealership said it is nothing they can do for me, which I believe is totally absurd considering im still making payments on a vehicle that doesn't work, and is only 5 years old, so basically that means to me they will cover your car for 5 years or 100,000 miles then your just on your own which is horrible, to invest and buy a vehicle brand new and it just breaks down in this magnitude! I am very upset and disappointed that they aren't willing to help, so I will be suing them!.

At random times, my 2005 chevy Cobalt will pop up a "check engine" light and a "traction control" light, where I lose my power steering, the motor shifts hard into each gear, and the motor runs very rough. Also, there are clicking sounds at the shifter, like it is trying to shift into a gear or something. This is a serious hazard and as I've read online, I am not the only one this has happened to. There are thousands of others. This entire car needs to be recalled because no one knows what is doing this!.
While driving, the check engine light came on and the information display on the dashboard flashed "power steering. " the car began shifting in and out of gear. The shifts are very rough and cause the car to jerk. There is also a rapid clicking sound that comes from the area of the gear selector. The code for the check engine light relates to the transmission control module.
My vehicle started have a slight gas odor when stopped or parked. Within a couple of days the gas smell from fumes are very strong. I have to drive with the windows down to even use the vehicle (living in texas is it hot and makes it hotter with the window down) the car seems to now make a clicking noise when starting, and seems to not have the gas mileage that it use to. I am afraid of something igniting the gas with such strong fumes. I called parkway Chevrolet in tomball texas as was told that a recall was coming, but it was not out yet. I was told that I have to pay out of pocket or fear ignition of the fumes from the vehicle. We are in the middle of International adoption and money is tight. Can you give any indication of when this would be an actual recall? and when it might be mailed out? it saddens me to see that they know a recall is coming and wont fix a vehicle with apparent dangers. Also now my passenger airbag light is coming on saying that it needs attention.
The contact owns a 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt. While the contact was driving 30 mph she heard a popping sound followed by white smoke coming from the engine. The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt. While driving 55 mph, the vehicle jerked and lost power. The contact heard a clicking sound when she depressed the brake pedal. The dealer was unable to diagnose the cause of the failure; however, they rewired a loose wire and the failure was supposedly repaired. The failure continued. She took the vehicle to another dealer and they stated that the air flow clogged. The dealer made the repair, but the failure recurred the next day. As of December 3, 2007, the dealer had not inspected the vehicle. The failure mileage was 19,000 and current mileage was 25,000. Updated 01-10-08.
