Since this vehicle reached 60000mi I have replaced the control arm bushings twice. When these bushings go bad they cause steering issues, braking issues and handling issues. These bushings are poorly engineered and I think that all vehicles with this control arm design should be covered under a recall. I have a 2006 chevy hhr with the same problem. These bushings are mounted horizontally and are supposed to flex horizontally with a vertical bolt through them. Impossible to do efficiently. I would not be surprised by any number of accidents that could be stemmed from this.

They told me that I should look to see if there was a recall because this is not something that should be a concern for this young of a vehicle. I couldn't find one but I did find that a lot of people have the same problem as me. This is a costly repair and could be very dangerous so I wanted to bring it to your attention and would like other consumers to know. Chevy should fix this issue.

21 Front Suspension Control Arm problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 10/25/2010

Vehicle was taken to the dealership in oct 2011 at apprx 16,000 miles to check loud noise coming from front suspension area. Dealer replaced power steering motor according to recall and replaced part of steering column. However, that did not fix the issue. This is my elderly mother's car and she did not recognize the noise was not usual or that the repair did not address the problem. Vehicle now has 20,000 miles (Nov 2011) and mechanic diagnosed lower control arm bushings are shot. This is apparently a common problem for this model & year. Dealer does not consider this a safety issue. I think it is--possibility of suspension components failing.

22 Front Suspension Control Arm problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 07/26/2010

Had my wife's 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt in for the power steering recall. The only problem we had prior to the recall was the failed rear control-arm bushings on both front control arms (both failed within the same month). Now, after having the recall performed, we are having problems with (of all things) loss of power steering. The traction control light comes on, the brake safety interlock clicks (under the automatic gear selector in the center console), and we have no power steering! I cannot let my wife drive this in this condition, as she is small and not strong enough to crank on the steering wheel without the power-assist. I called the dealer and was advised that I could bring it in to see if there is a problem with the part replaced in the recall - but I would have to pay for the diagnostics. Called chevy and got nowhere with them as well. Left the car at our mechanic's shop this morning to get a more reliable diagnosis!!.

25 Front Suspension Control Arm problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 07/01/2010

2007 chevy Cobalt, 20,000 miles, fnt end creaking, groaning/moaning. Feels very loose/rides very hard over the smallest defect in road! cole muffler diagnosed car bushings/control arms both sides need replace. Spoke to many owners of Cobalt & searched online-seems this is a common complaint around this same mileage which is unacceptable! bushings/control arms on cars w/limited mileage should be a defect of the manufacturer! this defect seems to be happening after the 3yr warranty & is not covered under the 5yr warranty! this is a safety hazard! I s/w ppl that had the bushings replaced/and the problem is still there & they have been told they have to have the control arms replaced too! most of the time, I feel I don't even have control of my vehicle. When I step on the brakes my whole steering wheel pulls to the left. When I change lanes, it feels like I'm jumping to the next lane. I had to replace my front tires bc of this front end suspension problem. Most ppl are not aware how, where, to whom to report a problem like this to. Most ppl use the attorney general for complaints, or directly to the dealer, therefore, your database is not accurate for the no. Of complaints the Cobalt fnt suspension. Most ppl I talked to haven't reported it, they just pd to replace it bc it was no longer under warranty. Costly repairs! over $1000 or more. When are u going to make gm responsible for this defect in the Cobalts?? the safety recall notice for the electric power steering should have also included control arms & bushings these are putting consumers at risk for crash also!!! this is clearly a defect in the Cobalt. This cars are not inexpensive cars the retail price starts at $16,000! make gm responsible for a safety recall on this problem before someone gets killed. This is a very dangerous situation and it is likely most consumers can't afford a repair of this magnitude, as it will consist of control arms/bushings/tires/alignment to make the vehicle safe again!.

26 Front Suspension Control Arm problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 06/24/2010

Total miles:27900 the car makes loud noises while driving even when you hit pot holes or not. The bushings gave up on the driver side control arm and leaks can be noticed on the struts on both sides. 29 Front Suspension Control Arm problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 03/14/2010

The vehicle is past the warranty mileage limits. I noticed several days ago a loud clunking noise while going over the slightest bump coming from the front end. I had the vehicle in for a oil change and tire rotation and asked to have the front end checked. The control arm bushings are worn out and I have to pay $300+ for the repair. Granted, I am outside the mileage limits of the warranty, but this vehicle is barely three years old. It appears I'm not the first to complain either. I have been a Chevrolet and gm fan for years, but with this issue plus the problems I had with my last pickup, a 2004 GMC sierra, I'm beginning to question my choices.

30 Front Suspension Control Arm problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 03/13/2010

I own a 2005 chevy Cobalt since new. Car has 109,000 miles on it and has had a few problems some that dealer took care of under warranty. I started noticing a clunking noise coming from the ps front of the car on 12/09. I finally found out that the lower control arm rear bushing was completely worn out causing the control arm to move forward/backward causing the noise. I replaced both ps & ds bushings which fixed the problem. This is not acceptable on a car with this low miles on it. I have owned cars with well over 200,000 miles on them and never had to replace control arm bushings.

31 Front Suspension Control Arm problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 02/06/2010

The vehicle only has 39,672 miles, is primarliy highway driven, and has seen very little use over the last 16 months. Steering control has diminshed over time while efforts have increased. Failure of control arm bushings seems premature for number of miles driven.

32 Front Suspension Control Arm problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 12/18/2009

2007 chevy Cobalt lt, bought new! had a bushing wear away and was told I cannot just replace the bushing on this car so I had to replace the entire system. Also replaced front lower control arms, did all of this in March 2010. It is now Jan 2011 and I need to replace everything again!! it hasn't even been a year. This has cost me well over $1000. Extremely hard to control the car, it wonders where ever it wants and also very easy to over correct. We need a recall!!!.
