37 Body problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 07/01/2018

On July 1, 2018, my son was driving his 2006 chevy Colorado on the freeway when it combusted in the front driver's side engine area. Thankfully, he was able to exit the vehicle before it became fully engulfed! the pickup burned entirely, very hot and very quick. See attached photos. I did contact gm, as I see there have been many claims of fire in these vehicles. However, gm was unwilling to put effort into trying to determine the cause of this fire that endangered my sons life!! I have received no answers, no compassion, no follow through. It is beyond disappointing for a company such as general motors to not be doing a better job for their consumers.

42 Body problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 04/02/2018

The frame cracked between the cab and the bed on the passenger side. The top of bed is now hitting against the cab at the top. I called gm twice, and they will do nothing about it. They told me to take it in to a dealer for inspection. I told them I don't feel it's safe to drive. They said to tow it in at my cost. I'm not paying for something that is obvious. The truck needs a new frame and they know it. I'm not the only one with this same problem, just read all the blogs on the internet.

43 Body problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 01/15/2018

I currently own a 2004 Chevrolet Colorado miles are 107,650. My truck is in very good to excellent shape, I take pride in my vehicles. The issue I have is my frame is rotten and cracked at the leaf spring hangers, much to my surprise when I jacked my truck up to change over tires and the rear axle stayed on the ground. Im very grateful we caught this before the right side broke away like the left side did. I do live in maine and they use products on the roads for ice, but my fuel and brake lines are in very good serviceable condition, as is most everything under the truck including the bed. I have been looking for guidance and stumbled onto some "forums" that state first gen Colorado this is common. I am not a forum member, nor do I believe in "internet shaming" I am loyal gm customer, but I it is very disappointing that I have a relatively low mileage truck with a great drive train, and no exterior rust that is completely unsafe and unusable. It sounds like a similar issue that Toyota had ive had and do currently have older gm vehicles with more miles and the frames are in excellent shape. Is gm/Chevrolet doing anything to help consumers?.

46 Body problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 09/15/2017

In 2016, I purchased a used 2004 chevy Colorado. This year (2017) my daughter noticed excessive rust on the underside of the vehicle. Upon the next oil change, we were told that the frame was completely rotted and cracked in several places. We were then referred to a welding company, who said that it could be repaired for $4,000. We got a second opinion, who said that this repair was not worth it. We were then referred to a place that would completely replace the frame, but are waiting on a price.

48 Body problem of the 2016 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 08/30/2017

The rear fenders on truck are blistering. There are bumps all along the outside of the rear fender wells. The problem is road debris and small stones getting up inside the inner fender wells and vibrating down pushing dents through to the outside of vechicle. This is going to result in accelorated rust through of the rear fenders as the finish is damaged on both sides of the panels. I have worked with the dealer, who attempted one repair (which failed) but I have been told by them and gm customer service that they will not fix the issue. The truck had 16200 miles on it when this started. I found online that other gm trucks have this issue, Chevrolet issued a service bulletin on silverados for the same issue and other people are complaining on the Colorado owners sites but gm is refusing to make repairs. This issue is going to cause rust through and jagged bodies on all of these vechicles in very short order in northern areas.

49 Body problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 06/01/2017

I have a 2004 chevy Colorado with 132,000 miles on it. I was driving my truck doing about 25 mph when I couldn't drive it anymore. Upon inspection the truck had a hole in the frame. I had to have the truck towed by to my home. This truck shouldn't have this problem yet. I hear this is a problem with several Colorado owners.

52 Body problem of the 2016 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 11/10/2016

Truck sits uneven from side to side . 1" difference at rear wheel wells when sitting on a level surface with no load in the bed and a 1/2 " difference in the front side to side . The rear overload spring leaf with rubber bumper touches upper adjacent spring leaf with no load in the bed on the driver side . Not sure if this could be a safety concern if there is a load placed in the bed causing issues in how the truck handles or could be causing premature tire wear or other issues with other suspension parts . I have been informed that this is a known issue with other Colorado trucks by the dealership I purchased the from . This truck came off of the dealership lot with this problem and gm tech. Assist. Is aware . After almost 3 months nothing has been done .

(used only on highway and typically paved roads) the truck has minimum rust on the body and has been well maintained since being purchased new in 2004.

55 Body problem of the 2016 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 07/11/2016

At speeds above 60 mph the sheet metal on the hood begins to ripple, flutter, and distort. This problem is well known by Chevrolet. The dealer has applied expanding foam inside the hood under warranty, but the metal continues to distort and ripple at highway speed. I am afraid the hood sheet metal will fail and the hood will come off the vehicle while driving. Chevrolet refuses to do anything further about it.

I went to install brakes when the mechanic noticed the jounce bumber missing, but when he looked closer he noticed it was rotted. The jounce buper bracket is part of the frame and it completely rotted out. I called gm and they inspected it and they said there is nothing they could do. I said Toyota replaced all the chasis rotting out in the state of massachusetts, this would be the same the salt brine is rooting out frames and this vehicle is no longer safe. They will not even buy it back. I need your help.

62 Body problem of the 2011 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 05/14/2015

When I started my truck the red air bag warning light was on steady. I went to find out why the air bag light was on it was for the seat belt pre-tensioner. It was in a fault situation. It was giving 2 codes for this but was not told what they were. Upon closer examination it had 2 broken wires inside a rubber boot that leads from the extended cab rear door to the body. I was told this is very common for extended cabs as the wiring is to short and is pinched when the rear door opens and shuts. The wires eventually fail and cause the air bag system to go into a fault situation and no longer work. Also I was told that the other wires in the rubber boot will also eventually fail including the speaker wire and interior light sensor wires. I was told this is an extended cab issue no other models seem to do this.

68 Body problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 02/22/2014

Prepared on behalf of my father, who is the primary driver. On 2/22/2014 it was noticed that the airbag warning lamp became illuminated. Dtc indicated concern in driver's seat belt pretensioner circuit. Additional diagnosis also identified that lh rear speaker was inoperative as well. Wiring harness was inspected, identified fractured wires within the conduit boot between lh rear access door and body. The access door on this vehicle is opened and closed approximately twice per day. Basic online research identified many consumer complaints for this exact condition. Additional research through NHTSA consumer complaints identified a minimum of 15 unique complaints which identified wiring concerns, on extended cab vehicles between the access door and body, resulting in incapacitated srs systems. 10 of the 15 identified complaints specifically identify; broken, cut, or disconnected wiring failures. This failure occurs through normal operation of the vehicle. Please investigate the trend that is evident for this safety concern.
