Exterior lighting:brake lights:switch. All brake lights stopped working; no longer illuminate when brake pedal is pressed. This includes the top lamp, above the back window. There is a recall number 09v310000 that describes this situation, but only good for certain states. In process of bringing to certified chevy dealer for formal diagnosis. Requesting consideration on expanding the current recall to include NJ, where my truck is registered. Critical safety hazard, as can potentially cause an accident.

Vehicle was taken in to replace recalled brake light switch. However, there still is no brake lights. All fuses have been checked. This is widespread known problem that should not fall on the owner to pay hundreds to the dealership just to diagnose the problem.

I discovered I had no brake lights when driving. I had this fixed at the dealer and it was the stop lamp switch malfunctioning. It turns out there is a recall on this part for 2004-2009 Colorado's but not my 2010. Somebody could of been killed!.

Brake lights and cruise control have always worked. Tuesday on the way to work brake lights stopped, cruise control stopped. I purchased truck brand new while living in al,it was built in louisiana and shipped from GA. I asked dealer to search for recalls, but nothing. Had brake switch replaced at $195. 00. Every state I've registered vehicle in al,az and mn license bureau had problem finding VIN in system.
The brake light switch needed to be replaced on our 2012 chevy Colorado. From review, chevy has recalled Colorados of different years for this same issue. I believe the brake light switch recall should be expanded to other years as this problem is occurring in later models than the most current recall year of 2009. We have never had a brake light switch fail on any of our other vehicles. Seems more than coincidental that it would occur on our Colorado, when there was a recall previously on the same model, but different manufacture years. Chevy should pay for our repair as well as recall this part for all 2012 Colorados. The failure of the brake light switch results in the brake lights not lighting when the brake pedal is pressed. This could result in a dangerous rear end collision as drivers following would be unaware that the brakes were deployed.

The stop lights work intermitinly due to a faulty switch. Gm has TSB's on models up to 2009 for this issue. Without opperatable brake lights a rearend crash is likley. This 2011 vehicle is not the first with this issue.

I was involved in a rear impact crash due to the brake lights failing to illuminate. I had the brake lamps switch of my 2007 Chevrolet Colorado extended cab replaced per the manufacturer recall that was issued in 2010. However, the replacement that the dealership installed failed, causing the driver behind me to be unaware of my intention to stop, which caused that driver to crash in to the rear end of my vehicle. This issue was supposed to be corrected by the recall, but gm is obviously still using faulty parts. My accident did not result in injury or fatality, but other drivers may not be so lucky.

No brake lights on 2006 Chevrolet Colorado. Was notified in traffic by a third party. Determined bulbs and fuses were all functional. Researched problem online and found NHTSA campaign number: 09v-310 regarding exterior lighting: brake lights: switch. I live in missouri which is not specifically noted in the campaign. However, campaign states "coverage for vehicles registered in all other states will be implemented in the same time frame. " called local Chevrolet dealer to have brake switch replaced regarding this campaign. They stated they were un-aware of the campaign and refused to fix the problem. I have a 2007 Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck bought in georgia and I currently live in tennessee. I discovered upon entering my garage in the afternoon of 7/13/2009 that my brake lights were continuously illuminated and would not turn off despite repeatedly pressing them and turning the vehicle on and off. I was unsure over the source of this problem so I conducted a quick google search and found the news article regarding this particular issue encountered in my vehicle type fitting my exact description (campaign id 09v310000). I am very lucky that I know about vehicles, because at that point I was able to disconnect the defective parts power supply and not drain my battery until I could get to a dealership on July 14th. I arrived at the dealership and was treated very rudely, with the service department insisting that my vehicle was not part of a national recall. I showed them the article with the inclusion criteria, but was still not treated with any respect for my concern. This was a safety issue, and I was also lucky that my brake lights were illuminated at all (even if they were on at all times). I did some more investigation, and found the defective product in my brake pedal assembly. I disconnected it and brought it to the parts department to simply pay for a replacement product. Again, luckily they had a replacement product I could purchase which I did and replaced it myself. The lights now work properly, despite the best efforts of my local Chevrolet dealership.
The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Colorado. In December of 2006, the vehicle was repaired according to NHTSA campaign id number 06v139000 (exterior lighting:brake lights:switch). On October 31, 2008, he was informed by another motorist that the brake lights also were not working. The vehicle has not been taken to the dealer. The manufacturer stated that they did not repair vehicles for the same recall more than once. The current mileage was 40,008 and failure mileage was 39,990.
