36 Steering problem of the 2016 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 10/08/2025

I was making a left turn all of the sudden my power steering assist and stabilization light came on and I struggled to get the truck into the parking lot. In my readings and research there are a lot of complaints and recalls for the Chevrolet Colorado for both 2015 and 2016. In my research you are aware of the issue and one of the solutions is turn off car/truck and wait 15 minutes and the computer might reset and be okay. It did just that! I had to walk home with my grandchildren and have someone drive me back to the truck the next morning. It started up with no lights or warning and I was able to drive it to the repair shop. I was told they can not fix it I have to take it to the dealership. I have grandchildren and I drive about 25 miles to work. This was very dangerous and could cause death if it goes out on the expressway!! please recall and fix right away.

2016 chevy Colorado power steering failed going 55 mph on a straight road (luckily) happened 3 times on 10/04/2025. Know issue on the 2015 year and a recall was put out for that year. Was reading a lot of forums on the 2016 a lot of other people have been complaining of the same issue. Gm needs to address this before it ends up taking someone’s life. 39 Steering problem of the 2016 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 10/01/2025

While driving, my 2016 Chevrolet Colorado experiences sudden voltage drops and intermittent loss of power steering assist — the same symptoms described in the 2015 Chevrolet Colorado recall (NHTSA #16v054000). When the failure occurs, the steering becomes extremely heavy and unsafe, especially during low-speed turns or lane changes. In September 2024, I brought my truck to an authorized Chevrolet dealership for sudden loss of power steering and electrical issues. A diagnostic was performed, and a fuse was replaced — they claimed that fixed the issue. Not even a month later, in October 2024, I brought my truck back to the dealership for the exact same issues. They confirmed a voltage drop but could not identify a specific cause. They verbally advised me they “cleaned the connectors,” which temporarily fixed the problem. Approximately one year later, in October 2025, the same issue returned — identical symptoms and voltage behavior. My truck was manufactured in August 2015, which is close to the recalled 2015 production window. Based on the symptoms and timing, I believe my truck may have been built using the same steering components or wiring harnesses as the recalled vehicles. This appears to be the same safety defect that caused the 2015 recall, only affecting a slightly newer VIN range. I request that NHTSA investigate whether additional 2016 Chevrolet Colorado vehicles built in mid-to-late 2015 should be included in the recall for loss of steering assist. No service lights will be on and suddenly while driving I will get “service stabilitrak”, “no traction control”, and “service power steering”. Turning off my vehicle and restarting will temporarily fix the issue. Chevrolet Colorado, 2016, steering assist loss, voltage drop, power steering failure, recall 16v054000, safety defect, connector corrosion, torque sensor wiring harness, electrical failure, early production 2016.

Turning into a parking lot and power steering went out. Immediately followed service lights of stabilitrack and power steering. Turn the truck off and back on and the problem was resolved. Took the vehicle to the dealership the next day and they stated the power steering rack was failing. After research, it was found the the power steering was recalled on the 2015s but nothing on the 2016s. The issue with the 2016s is the same issue as the 2015s.

43 Steering problem of the 2016 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 09/18/2025

I was driving down the road and the power steering completely stopped working. This could have easily caused a wreck. No warning lights or indicators were prior to failure. I pulled the truck over to avoid causing a collision and turned the truck off. After shutting down for several minutes the warning lights that appeared while I had been previously driving went away and power steering returned. I brought it to a shop but they said without the lights being active they couldn't diagnose the problem. This is super dangerous and I see many others with this model have the same problem.

44 Steering problem of the 2021 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 09/09/2025

The key does not release when in park! I have to adjust the steering wheel and gear shift multiple times to get it to release. This has been going on for a while and the truck only has 27,000 miles. I've called multiple chevy dealers (including the one I bought it from) they all want a 250 diagnostic fee! this should be under warranty. This problem is dangerous. I have seen I am not the only one having this issue. This issue needs to be investigated and recalled!.

Approaching dr's lot it happens again! I call the dealer to report it after I almost took the curb cuz steering went hard. Found an open area to park. I explained same reason I'm coming in has just happened. Now it won't did it for them for sure. I received a text late saying have guy looking g at it maybe know more tomorrow. I call now 2:00pm next day for an update. He's with a customer, wait for call back. Just I thought! I'm being charged according to what he said and I signed, 199. 00 for him to say, he put in dielectric grease for better contact and they drove it saying not happening to them so they can't put in a claim to ally to fix it. And my warranty goes by miles as well so charge me and drive my warranty. He said if it happens again could be steering rack replacement. I believe it the steering module. He says it's all in one. . But I have to pay 199. 00 and do this again, even after other employees said take a picture and I did. T/c stabilizer tracking lights and dash shows stabilizer service power steering drive with care. Steering is cut off or so hard you have to muscle it. I have the warranty so fix it! the pictures aren't enough even a moving picture? why if this happens is it not a recall for 2016 but was for 2015? this is to much nervous to drive but my only working vehicle.

Failure Date: 08/09/2025

While driving with my wife and granddaughter we were getting off the freeway making a left turn to head into nashville and the steering wheel locked up and would not allow me to turn the wheels. The dash board flashed and had to force it over to the right side of the road. The steering wheel locked up while making teh turn almost caused me to fill the truck and crash into other vehicles making the same left turn we were. We called roadside assistants with onstar and had it towed to teh nearest Chevrolet dealer. The dealer then waited 3 days before looking at the vehicle. They at first said they could not recreat the issue but then the next day said the steering gear was bad and should be replaced. When I advised them I had an extended warranty they would get back to me. Then the next day Thursday Aug 14 they then again said it could not be recreated and they did not want the warranty company to deny it. It currently still sits at carl black Chevrolet. Problem first appeared sat Aug 9th. I am set to pick it up tomorrow Aug 16th as of yet nothing has been done to correct the issue.

Failure Date: 07/30/2025

My 2015 Chevrolet Colorado 3. 6 v6 lt is having random complete loss of power steering while driving. I contacted Chevrolet regarding the recall for 2015 model Colorado and they do not know why there was never a recall for my truck, they stated there's nothing they can do, I will have to pay the money for the repair that they have for the recall. But I won't be remembursted. This make absolutely no sense. If the repair is the recall repair then why would it not be covered? power steering failure on electrical power steering unit power steering has stopped working while driving, going through an intersections. Turning the vehicle off then turning it back on resets the system and power steering works. I cannot reproduce or mimic issue, it happens at random not warning. 68 Steering problem of the 2016 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 07/25/2025

I am submitting a safety concern with my 2016 Chevrolet Colorado truck. This vehicle is experiencing intermittent loss of power steering assist, which poses a significant safety risk. This issue mirrors the defect described in the gm recall 15595a, which affected 2015 Chevrolet canyon and GMC canyon models. The root cause appears to be a poor electrical connection in the torque sensor harness connector. However my vehicle hasn't been included in the recall despite exhibiting identical symptoms. I urge the nhsta to investigate and consider expanding the scope of recall 15595a to include affected 2016 models. I am also requesting guidance on how to proceed with repair assistance or reimbursement.

69 Steering problem of the 2016 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 07/21/2025

Power steering and stabilitrak warnings were displayed while I was driving and I immediately lost power steering while trying to execute a turn off the highway. This almost resulted in an accident. Warnings have been displayed twice now without prior incidents, and no warning that I will lose power steering. I have not taken my vehicle in yet, but other owners of 2016’s have reported the same issues with no response from the manufacturer. The 2015 model had a recall for the exact same issue with the exact same part number, however they will not address the issue in the 2016 model. This is a public safety issue as accidents and even death can occur if one loses steering while driving.

70 Steering problem of the 2016 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 07/15/2025

After purchasing my 2016 Chevrolet Colorado z71 (approx. 113,000 miles) from avalon Honda in new jersey, steering began to exhibit an intermittent, jerky, “cog?like” feel—almost as if slipping or catching. It’s unpredictable but recurrent, raising serious concern for sudden loss of control and potential collision. A repair shop replaced the front passenger?side control arm, but the issue persists. It comes and goes, making it difficult to diagnose. I believe this may be a hidden steering defect that needs formal investigation.
