Air Bag Problems of Chevrolet Corvette - part 2

Previous claim w/NHTSA was filed on wrong vehicle. I am filing this complaint so that it can be associated to the correct vehicle. I was in a passenger side and rear collision resulting in serious injury and permanent impairment which resulted in a total loss of the vehicle and multiple surgeries as well as prolonged and continued impairments and care. I was struck in the passenger side door by a truck crossing 3 lanes into my 4th lane as I sat idol at a stop light, the extreme impact blew holes in the side walls of my tires. I was pushed me into the median in which I ricocheted off of and was hit a second time by the same truck tearing into the hatch and bending the frame of the vehicle declared a total loss. Not one of the airbags deployed and the seat belt failed to restrain me. Resulting in severe whiplash, tbi, torn rotator cuff and bicep tear, permanent loss of hearing in my right ear and a cranial fracture, back and neck injuries, hip and intestinal blockage(twisted). At the time of the accident NHTSA, dealer and gm ran VIN due to the suspicion of air bags and seatbelt failure there were no known recalls on my vehicle or VIN at the time. The first time I was notified VIN was confirmed on recall due to the vehicle being left in "test" mode was 8/13/2020 which I immediately filed a claim with report of injury related accident with corporate and they opened a claim and 30 days later stated that my claim was outside of the 3 yr statute of limitations. Gm and dealer failed to file the recall in a timely manner with known issues as early as 2014 resulting in my vehicle not being repaired prior to the accident. I believe this to be a repose statute in colorado that is 6 years from incident and would like to file a claim against the dealer and gm for failure to properly notify of recall. Failure to notify me of the recall is negligence which resulted in permanent injury and impairment as well as continued medical care which could have been prevented.

It sat for 5 years on a lot in boca raton, fla, no miles,and after this all the systems were worked on indicating it had been flooded. I was provided with a bogus auto check that showed none of this,or the wreck to front and rear! I started having trouble day one! allen bought the lot in fla and a salvage lot as well. Mike reid in benton ky confirmed water damage but would not help us because they are all connected. These cars are run through different states until dealers can get titles and I had problems since day one. Ky attorney general did nothing to help, ky state troopers buddy pugh keeps them safe discriminating against elderly and disabled.

Dash airbag service light periodically illuminated. This condition (to date), has not resulted in logging any diagnostic fault codes, I. E. ; dtc(s) b0012, b0013, b0016, b0016, b0019, b0020, b0022, b0023, b0026, b0033, b0040, b0042 or b0044, this illuminated service light fault is only rectified when either; a) I manually re-positioning the driver¿s seat until the light turns off, or b) I physically re-positioning the yellow (side-airbag) connector located under driver¿s seat. Either method results in only a temporary resolve, before the problem occurs again. I assume this issue could also be true for the passenger seat too. By service notice / VIN#, gm acknowledges a potential / real airbag issue in my vehicle, dated may 2016. Based on the referenced may 2016 gm service notice, and further substantiated via phone communication, gm requires that a specific diagnostic fault code be present before gm will cover any service coasts to resolve this issue. This, while knowing the existence of an impending safety issue, described in the may 2016 service notice, is uniquely independent of any requirement there must be a diagnostic fault code detected. Gm needs to accept ownership of this acknowledged well described issue. In this instances, gm shifts coast responsibility for this potential/real safety issue to the car owner. My research indicates that this issue is not unique to the Chevrolet c6 Corvette, but rather systemic throughout gm model types. Current dealer estimate charges to perform fault diagnostics only (no fault code present), is > $290. 00, plus tbd addition repair coasts. What¿s wrong with this scenario?.

Air bag disengaged light on dash comes on when hitting a bump. Not sure whether airbags are really not working or not. Code shows seat belt tension at fault.

Yellow connector under drivers seat lost continuity. Airbags were disabled.

Air bag malfunction light came on, when I started the car. Took the car to the dealer, who reported both the drivers side and passenger side seat air bags had internal failures and needed to be replaced.

I keep getting a red light on the dash saying the air bag is not active. I have found that by wiggling the connector under the driver's seat the light goes out. I suspect there is a bad connector and it never fails while I am at the dealership. The chey dealership says their is no recall and they want at least $125 to strait checking. For the past year and half I haven't driven my Corvette much due to steering wheel module inflatable cover being sticky. Once you touch it with your finger its attaches to the steering wheel cover. I went to my local Chevrolet dealer to see what could be done. Not a thing. His remark was this is (part of living in florida) if you think you have problems you should hear how many complaints we get on our truck steering wheels. This is a safety issue and should be a recall since it involves steering the vehicle and inflatable air restraint. The vehicle has 39,135 miles. I have the same problem with my 2006 srx Cadillac.

The airbag safety light continues to go off between 2000 and 2500 rpms. Gm knows about the issue, but has not issued a safety recall. The fix is to reground a wire under the seat, but no diagram has been provided by gm detailing how to do this.

The air bag readiness light stays on intermittently with the frequency increasing. As of today, 08/15/14 it is on constantly. I have no idea if this is just a warning failure or if there is really a problem with the air bag system.

I was driving on the highway service handling tracktion system light came on and car went to right and l ran in a ditch 11000 dollars in damage and not one air open.

The airbag readiness light comes on. This problem has previously been repaired by the dealer. A search of the Corvette forum indicates this is a common problem with the 2005 to 2013 Corvette.

The contact's daughter owned a 2010 Chevrolet Corvette. The contact stated while her daughter was driving at an undisclosed speed on a rainy night, there was another unoccupied vehicle stopped side ways in the middle of the highway with no hazards lights activated. The contact stated that the front driver's side of the vehicle crashed into the other vehicle. The contact stated that the driver's side and passenger's side air bags failed to fully deploy as needed. The contact was occupying the rear passenger's side seat and was wearing a seat belt; however, the contact was propelled between the front driver's side and front passenger's side seats, causing the contact's left shoulder to hit the driver's side seat. The contact sustained a right shoulder dislocation, headache, neckache and soreness all over the body. The contact's daughter who was occupying the front driver's side seat hit her face against the steering wheel and sustained bruises and minor cuts on the face. The driver also sustained soreness on the shoulders, knees, feet, back, head and the face. The contact's niece who was occupying the front passenger's side seat hit her forehead against the windshield and the windshield was fractured. The contact 's niece sustained cuts on the forehead and severe neck pain that required her to be out of school for an extended period of time. The ambulance transported all passengers to the emergency room, where medical assistance was provided. The vehicle was towed and totaled. A police report was filed but the contact did not have the information available. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the failure occurred because an object that was hanging on the driver's key holder had caused the ignition switch to turn off. No assistance was provided. The contact related the failure to an unknown recall. The failure mileage was unknown. The VIN was not available.

Air bag go on and off intermittently - chevy dealer says there is no know problem.

Several years ago airbag red light came on indicating airbags inoperative. G m mechanic fixed by refastening something under driver's seat. Recently red light for air bags being inoperative has been intermittently coming on again. I will have g m mechanic refix. However, this is a well known problem by a lot of Corvette owners. . Another Corvette problem is the recent headlights turning off recall. Received recall notice several months ago, but there are no parts available for g m to be able to fix this. Both of the above are certainly life and safety issues that should receive better attention thank you.

Request for crash test results on Chevrolet Corvette cabriolet convertible 1998. (nar transferred to rulemaking) the experts appointed for the file cannot reach a conclusion on whether the air bag should have deployed during the accident.
