Check Engine Light On Problems of Chevrolet Corvette

Check engine light comes on and has a p0442. I can smell fuel after light comes on mostly and lower speeds (under 10 mph) and always at a stop. When I fill up it is a definite under both circumstances. I was pointed to a new gas cap. I've replaced 2 and the code continues to return and the smell of fuel is outstanding and seems unsafe for the potency.

While driving 70+mph on an interstate, "reduced power mode" and "service active handling" warnings illuminated on the dic aong with the check engine light. The vehicle then completely shut off making it extremely dangerous to get safely out of the paths of other vehicles. This has happened to the vehicle about 8 times now in varying circumstances, mostly while in motion. Error codes taken from handheld programmer include: p1516, p2101, p2135.

Had to have cylinder heads rebuilt because manufacturing issue with valve guids wearing quickly out of spec and if not corrected destroying the entire motor. I got a check engine light with misfire which was caused by worn guides. Sent heads into be rebuilt and found out that they were way out of spec. Some at . 030 and spec cut off at . 006.

While driving the Corvette, the engine shut down with no notice. The dash indicated the vehicle had entered accessory mode. Power steering, power brakes and engine power were completely gone. Within a few seconds, the dic went from 'accessory mode' to 'shift into park'. In order to do so, I had to coast to a safe place. Once I got to a spot where I could move off the road, I shifted to park and restarted the car. It then drove on as usual, but there was no check engine light or other indicator. This happened only once this day, however occurred three additional times within 10 miles on the 23rd of July. I contacted a gm service technician who works at a Chevrolet dealership and he checked for any service bulletins or recalls. There were none for the Corvette. I searched the internet, and Corvette forum (I am a 10 year forum member). I found numerous instances of the ignition switch in 2005-2007 Corvettes failing in this manner. I located an ignition switch and replaced it. This fixed the problem in 15 minutes and for less than $50 at dealer retail. I know from other nhstc recalls on vehicles that ignition switch failures are considered a critical and dangerous failure. The failures in the Corvettes should be included in these recalls. If such a failure occurred during crossing traffic or while driving in close proximity interstate traffic, the results could easily be (and may already have been) deadly. Please consider initiating a recall, or including the affected years of Corvette in an existing recall. My car is now fixed due to my ability to search forums and other web based information, however most Corvette owners are not as involved or as web savvy and could be involved in a long drawn out problem/diagnosis process which would put their lives at risk. At any speed the car jerks like one or more spark plug wires are not firing(pulled off) in all modes, it is worse in (e economy mode) push the gas down it gets worse in all modes. I replaced the plugs and wires I still have this problem, I was hoping it was a bad plug or wire, that happens. I took it to the dealer when the check engine light came on I pulled the fuse for the exhaust valves to keep them open they checked then tested the car and told me it was fine no other codes were found. I have 1800 miles on the car now I tried every 93 octane fuel available in this area and other areas, hoping it was just bad fuel that many stations can't have bad fuel for it to be fuel related.

Car starts bucking, check engine light comes on, white smoke blowing out exhaust, eventually car dies. Dealer states, 02 sensor in bank one failed. Car has been back to dealer for same failure 5 times in a 4 month period. P0131, p1133, p0300 and p0171. Purchased vehicle June 20, 2008 fist issue was July 15, 2008. Vehicle was purchased as a gm certified used vehicle with less then 25000 miles on it. Gm case # 10447543. Car was last in the shop 11/2008 and has been put in my garage for the winter. Will not know if problem has been resolved until spring.

While driving on the highway engine check light came on, and immediately vehicle dropped to 20mph. It happened again on 10-may-2000. Contacted dealer, and was told that maybe the motor got wet. No repairs were made. Called the dealer and manufacturer.

While driving down on interstate in the middle of traffic. The information warning system displayed a message that read active handling system was malfunctioning. Ater display message the check engine light came on, then engine lost power. Consumer felt that if systems failed it could lock up the brakes and posible injuries could occur.

Traction control system warning light will come on within a split second, the engine check light will come across the dashboard, reading engine reduction power, causing vehicle to slow down without no reason. Vehicle been in/out of dealer's shop more the five times and condition still occurring. Last incident almost caused consumer to have a dangerous accident.
