I recently (Jan 6, 2018), noticed a very distinct gasoline smell in my garage and around my 2006 Corvette. There is no spotting beneath the car. The odor has its strongest concentration in the area near the filler door (driver's side rear wheel well area). I have owned the car for exactly three years and this is the first time this smell has been present. It is very pervasive and definitely gasoline. The fumes are a major safety hazard and this condition is very disconcerting. There are numerous postings on Corvette forums and on you tube, that highlight this ongoing problem with early c6 Corvettes (2005-2008). I have called Chevrolet dealer service departments and they acknowledge that this has been a problem, but that no recall has been issued. The problem is that gasoline is spraying out of the seals and certain plastic hose connections related to the fuel tank, and, or, around the fuel pump and possibly the crossover tube. Gasoline "puddles" on top of the gas tank or is caught by the tank shield beneath the tank. . . Thus no spotting under the car. The fumes and the liquid are a major fire danger. . . Both in a stationary garage setting or when the car is in motion, where gasoline would have the potential to ignite on a hot surface such as the exhaust.

Fuel leak from crack in fuel pump. Strong gasoline odor can be detected from driver side rear tire. This is a known common problem with c5 and c6 Corvette and can cause fire as fuel leaks is collected in pan next to hot exhaust pipe.

Any time I fill up the car with gasoline, I smell a strong gasoline smell for days, in the garage and inside the car while driving. The smell subsides once the fuel level gets below half tank. The root of the problem is usually a leak in the plastic fuel pump that sprays gasoline on top of the fuel tank and runs down the side of the tank very close to the hot exhaust pipes. This is likely a fire hazard. There are hundreds of reports of this around the internet. . Read more...

Smell of gas on the left side back of car near fuel cap fuel pump is leaking gas very powerful 2008 chevy Corvette.
Fuel leaks out of the fuel pump and runs down the side of the fuel tank. This can leak onto the exhaust while driving, or pool on top of the tank leaving a strong gasoline odor in the car and garage.
Fuel leak in the driver's side fuel pump causing strong fuel smell due to accumulated fuel in panels surrounding the driver's side fuel tank. Fire hazard potential for destruction of property and injury or death.
The fuel pump assembly is made of plastic. This plastic on fuel pump outlet has developed a small crack due to the inferior plastic, causing high pressure fuel to spray out, pool on top of tank, and drip down the side of the tank near the hot exhaust. Apparently this has been a problem on multiple year c6 Corvettes and gm doesn't not want to issue a recall.

There is a gas leak, probably from the fuel pump. I can smell gas odor. I'm worried that the gas fumes is close to the water heater and don't want an explosion to happen. I can smell it when I'm inside of the car and driving.
Car smells of fuel while sitting with the engine off. From doing research it is a common problem where there is a crack in the top of the fuel pump.
I have a 2010 chevy Corvette base model with a gas leak it was parked in my garage for a two weeks . I went and put gas and noticed a strong smell of gas. I drove the car for a while and put it back in the garage the gas smell got worse I took it to the shop they said that the fuel pump is leaking wanting to charge me 2000 to fix it.

Strong fuel odor in the garage, around the left rear wheel well and inside the vehicle after parked for sometime. Gm Chevrolet dealer diagnose the problem to crack fuel pump module left side behind the driver seat. Gm Chevrolet has had the fuel module on backorder for the last week.

Strong gas odor in garage and car after parking. Dealer said fuel pump module is cracked, which means raw gas is being sprayed in area around fuel tank as you drive. Dealer says this is a known issue as he has 2 other customers with same problem.
Strong gas smell when above half full. Tested many times and is likely related to gm special coverage adjustment 15682, which describes problem perfectly (fuel pump fitting cracks), a very expensive fix. Many others like this posted here. However, dealer says my VIN is not included in special adjustment even though it is within the described year range (2007-2013). This is not right. Please help gm realize they didn't get all vins included that need to be. I bought my car in may 2013, so unlikely it should be precluded.
Received recall notice for leak path in left hand fuel pump module flange. When I took it into the dealership, after smelling gas during fill ups, they said my problem was a leak in the fuel tank and the right hand side transfer module was leaking not the left side. Had to pay for repairs due to the right side versus the left side when they are both made from the same materials. Contacted gm and they would not honor this. The right side fuel take needs to be recalled as well this is a design issue and a safety issue for health and parking next to a gas water heater.
Fuel smell coming from the left side of the vehicle. Only happens when fueled above 3/4 of a tank. Chevrolet dealer was concerned about the problem during an oil change and tried to get gm to correct the issue but they would not citing that the vehicle passed all fuel pressure an leak tests. The vehicle is dangerous to park in a garage or closed area due to the very good chance of ignition from strong fumes. Just as disturbing is the fact that the exhaust system is by the source of the leak and could ignite at any time while driving. Many other customers have complained of this issue without a resolution from the manufacturer or if gm has agreed to replace the defective part (fuel pump) they do so with the same type that has already failed. Eventually one of these cars is going to explode or catch fire an I guess that only then will the manufacturer and the government do something about it. I have attached the service report where the dealership acknowledged the smell and the notice from Chevrolet. Something needs to be done about this before there are injuries or deaths because of this.
Every time I fill up with gas I smell a strong odor of gas for the next few days until the fuel level goes down (driven daily). I can smell the gas odor in and outside of the vehicle and it also fills up my garage with gas fumes. I do not overfill when putting gas in. After looking into this it appears to be a common problem with leaks in the fuel pump to fuel tank area or cracks around tank fittings, and should be looked into as a very serious safety issue.
Strong fuel smell coming from fuel cap area, caused by small fuel pump leak. Fumes could cause a fire.
Gas leak fumes that progressively became stronger until it is now in the cabin. I have taken it to a mechanic for a diagnoses and it is the fuel pump or pumps in the saddle bag gas tanks. Order is stronger after fill-up and I never top off. The fumes are stronger on the driver's side.
I have a strong smell of gasoline in and around mu 2007 Corvette c6. It is caused by a defective plastic fuel pump where the fuel line exits the top of the pump on the outside of the fuel tank. It always cracks and leaks fuel. This happens to all factory installed original c6 fuel pumps. The gm replacement pump is manufactured with a different type of plastic and is not suppose to crack. My 2007 Corvette has approx. 44,000 miles and has this extremely dangerous and life threaten issue. And may even burn down my garage also. Why has this pump not been recalled by gm? are you waiting until enough lives and property is lost???.
Fuel smell coming from driver side rear wheel area. Very strong fuel smell inside the car. Garage smells like fuel from car sitting after being parked. Took it to a shop and had it looked at. The tech said the fuel pump is leaking on driver side were the fuel line is cracked on the fuel pump module.
Fuel pump leaking gas. The dealership has had the vehicle for over a month and cannot find a pump. This was such a bad leak that the garage and house smells of fuel. I was afraid of a fire. Why is it that gm can get away with this? I own a very expensive brick that could be the source of a fire but I cannot find the part for the dealership to fix it. Gm should be forced to do the right thing and produce the parts for a recall.
The fuel system is leaking. It sends out gas fumes and I have a three car enclosed garage and it still fills up the garage with fumes so bad I sometimes have to leave the vehicle outside in the elements in order to be able to get to the car without holding my breath so the fumes can dissipate. I am getting the fuel pumps changed and the entire fuel system checked out in order to remedy this problem. Additionally, the fuel mileage has dramatically decreased regardless of where I drive on the highway or city.
In 2005 my steering column locked. The car was towed to Chevrolet dealership in alexandria va. They unlocked the steering column but did not replace the necessary parts. Now the computer reads that the steering column is going to lock and the fuel pump shuts off. When the car was inspected by wynngardner Chevrolet they informed me then warranty had been satisfied. If the defected parts were replaced they would not have to replace then said parts were replaced initially. The vehicle has been inspected and said parts are not there. The dealership used the VIN number in 2005, now when the VIN number is used, it shows that the recall was satisfied. This is not the case.

I have fuel smell from the fuel pump area. The dealer tells me that they are on back order. They believe that the pump may need replacing but they cannot take the car knowing that they cannot fix it. Therefore it leaks in my closed garage. It only leaks when the tank is greater than half full.
My c6 2007 Chevrolet Corvette has a very strong fuel smell indicating it has one or many fuel leaks which is a large danger and an emissions violation. This is a very widely-known issue with a large number of c6 owners but gm will not initiate a recall on the faulty fuel pump or leaking seals on the gas tanks. This needs to be addressed ASAP before someone gets killed.
Has crack on top of fuel pump spraying gas , smells in cab.
Purchased used 2009 Corvette z06. Immediately noticed gas smell in garage. Dissipates after sitting for several days. Immediately returns upon driving a few miles. This implies it is at least from a pressurized line (probably the fuel pump fitting. ) researched Corvette forums and found this is common problem on c6 Corvettes usually with fuel pump fitting. Contacted gm customer assistance. They authorized dealer to confirm leak. Dealer did so. Requested gm to provide repair or at least provide replacement parts. Gm refused. These gas tanks and fuel pumps sit immediately behind the seats in a Corvette and very close to the exhausts. Come on NHTSA. Do a recall on these fuel pumps before people die from fires or explosions.
The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Corvette. The contact noticed that the vehicle was leaking fuel from the fuel pump. The failure recurred numerous times. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the fuel pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 36,000.
I began noticing a strong gasoline odor coming from the car. I researched this symptom and discovered it was a common and well known problem related to defective fuel pumps for my model year car. Specifically, the fuel pumps develop cracks in the supply outlet of the pump, and then leak fuel along the top of the tank, which then flows down the side of the tank. I had to replace the pump, which the dealer now shows having a different part number than the original.
Tl-the contact owns a 2011 Chevrolet Corvette. The contact stated that while driving at 45 mph, the smell of fuel emitted in and outside the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the fuel pump has a little airline crack that's leaking fuel slowly. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 20,860. Aw.
Fuel leak from fuel pump and cross over tubes. Originally detected by a very strong gas odor in the garage. The odor and fuel is leaking and visible when the car is stationary. The fuel smell is also strong while driving.
Fuel pump cracked and pumping gas outside the tanks onto the car. Fuel pump had to be replaced. Could smell gas inside the car and outside.
Tl-the contact owns a 2008 Chevrolet Corvette. The contact stated that there was a crack in the fuel pump that caused an odor of gas to emit from the vehicle. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was 47,430. Ad.
