36 Service Brakes problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Cruze

Failure Date: 08/01/2021

Check-engine light comes on and stays; after repairs, it keeps flashing. "traction control" message comes on and stays on. The air conditioning system keeps warning to be turned off, and heats up the car when not turned off. The care drives and dies while driving. The transmission is not consistent, takes much more time to accelerate. Breaks and fan replaced after a year of purchased and about 1,500 dollars have just been spent in repairs and the car still gives a check-engine light, shaking and about to die. Presently not in use. The safety issues for me and my family are high. I recently had to drive it with safety lights on and below 25 miles/hr to and from the mechanic. I have taken the car before two mechanics and it is still not resolved. The car is available for inspection upon your recall.

37 Service Brakes problem of the 2011 Chevrolet Cruze

Failure Date: 07/30/2021

Unknown. When stopping then going to accelerate again the engine acts like it’s in nuetrual and revs the engine up then causing it to jerk forward. This happens at almost every stop.

38 Service Brakes problem of the 2017 Chevrolet Cruze

Failure Date: 06/27/2021

Cylinder 1 experienced cracking due to low speed pre-ignition (lspi, commonly referred to as “knock”) just after exiting the highway in a 70 mph zone and produced a malfunction indicator lamp (mil) code of p0301. As evidenced in attachment 1, this caused damage to the antilock braking system due to loss of vacuum on the system and possible fouling due to foreign object damage to the vehicle abs. Later assessment by trained mechanics determined the root cause was due to insufficient structural capability of engine pistons to withstand brief periods of lspi. As evidenced by attachment 18-na-171 and pip5490, the vehicle manufacturer (general motors) is aware of the insufficient design of the pistons, has re-designed them to withstand lspi, however has not made an effort to notify me or replace the existing part to prevent damage to the vehicle powertrain and abs. While this particular instance of piston cracking due to lspi has only had a financial impact on myself, loss of abs functionality and potential engine seizure at highway speeds have the potential to produce dangerous, if not fatal, conditions to other drivers with similar hardware.

39 Service Brakes problem of the 2012 Chevrolet Cruze

Failure Date: 06/11/2021

Brake assist, no brakes when backing up. This was recalled on almost 300,000 chevy Cruzes but not all. Recall number 12213. My vehicle being one that was not included. I believe chevy needs to recall more than the 300,000. Brakes work fine driving forward, but again no brakes in reverse. This is not ok! could definitely cause vehicle to crash. Not safe at all!.

41 Service Brakes problem of the 2016 Chevrolet Cruze

Failure Date: 04/28/2021

My car was recalled for problems with fuel system or something of that nature, I took it to get repaired not once but about 3 times and problem is still ongoing. When I press the gas, the car shoots all the way to the 3rd gear and gets stuck at about 27 miles which is very dangerous, especially when I’m on the freeway. It will also cut off in the middle of the road making me have to put my car in park and recrank the car, multiple people have almost ran dead into the back of my car. They basically told me it is no way to fix my car. Now, it has caused more problems. My car is now saying “engine power reduced” and “service brake assist” when I try to press the brakes, it’s literally almost impossible. I have to almost stand on the brake and it still does not stop all the way. My brakes are new btw, so it shouldn’t still have this error message. I’m basically driving a lemon. This car is not reliable at all. I have put so much money into this car and with it being a 2016, you would think it wouldn’t have all of these problems… the car just jerks when I’m driving and nobody can seem to fix it! OH, and let me not forget about the fuse that blew in my usb ports causing me not to be able to use all the features of my vehicle. This car is a nightmare. Also, I believe that when there are recalls for safety issues like this, we should be notified but of course that’s asking for too much. I have only had this car since 2019. It was serviced on 4/28/21, 5/26/21, 6/6/21 and after that I literally gave up and just hope I don’t wreck out and die.

The approximate failure mileage was 56,000.

43 Service Brakes problem of the 2017 Chevrolet Cruze

Failure Date: 03/09/2021

Vehicles comes with a engine stop on/off that can't be turned off. What this does is that it turns off the engine when idling to save gas. What happens is that this engages even before brake pressure hits 100%. So when in an uphill or downhill and coming to a stop the car tends to shut down when it reaches low speeds. However, when this happens the car starts rolling and you can't steer correctly because power steering is turned off. This creates a safety hazard because it engages before pressure is 100% causing the car to shut down early and you start rolling unexpectedly without any power steering. Vehicle was approaching a red light in a slight uphill. Car rolled from :34-:50 seconds backward. I re gained control of NY car once I let go completely off my brake(this causes the auto stop on/off to disengage).

44 Service Brakes problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Cruze

Failure Date: 03/01/2021

51 Service Brakes problem of the 2018 Chevrolet Cruze

Failure Date: 09/03/2020

When driving my 2018 chevy Cruze I had multiple instances where the clutch pedal would go to the floor and not release, and the transmission could not be shifted into gear. General motors has a technical service bulletin (TSB) on the issue stating that contamination of the hydraulic fluid causes the issue and it is only a warranty replacement for gasoline cars (the diesel models are not covered by the warranty in the TSB) if the car is still within the 5-year, 60,000 mile powertrain warranty. This is the same issue that affects opel/vauxhall astra cars in the uk and europe as they share the same parts (opel/vauxhall used to be owned by gm and used the same powertrain). The safety recall in europe consisted of replacing several transmission and brake system components as the brakes share the same hydraulic reservoir as the clutch. Gm is ignoring this dangerous problem in the USA and refusing to fix the issue as a product recall. They have it as a TSB that is only a warranty repair if the problem occurs before the warranty runs out on the affected cars.

52 Service Brakes problem of the 2012 Chevrolet Cruze

Failure Date: 09/02/2020

Almost every time I start my car and turn on the ac and then put my car in forward/reverse I have no brake assistance at all. It will also do this while sitting in a drive through for fast food as well. It has only occurred after first start up with ac running and after coming to a complete stop at a light, stop sign, drive through etc. With ac running. It started doing this approximately 3 months after I purchased in 2015 and has happened more frequently since then.

55 Service Brakes problem of the 2012 Chevrolet Cruze

Failure Date: 07/17/2020

I've noticed this problem getting worse over the last month. When I'm backing up, I have to push really hard on the break peddle to get the car to come to a stop. Then today I started having the same problem while in drive and coming to a stop at a stop sign. I think the break booster or some component in the breaking system is faulty. Ive heard of a lot of other people having the same problem.

56 Service Brakes problem of the 2012 Chevrolet Cruze

Failure Date: 07/06/2020

My car has started to get hard to brake. Even going forward or reverse slowly the car does not want to brake. I try to brake and the car still slides forward or reverse. I sometimes have to pump the brake multiple time and it does not always help. I heard there was a recall for this issue but my car's VIN is not apart of the recall with the same issue. I bleed the brakes and put new fluid and not much has really changed. I have a Chevrolet Cruze eco 1. 4l, any help would be appreciated.

57 Service Brakes problem of the 2018 Chevrolet Cruze

Failure Date: 07/01/2020

I have a 2018 Cruze that I was driving on a 4 lane highway on top of a mountain, the brakes went out with me and my 6 month old in car, I was able to get to shoulder, towed to chevy, they said it was a faulty brake pump, and charged me 500 to fix it. Then less than 2 weeks later, same mountain, same thing, towed to the same chevy, they said that the replacement pump had exploded and it was caused by engine piston issues, and want 5 grand to fix it. I believe that chevy broke the car the first time and besides the fact, exploding brake pumps, 2 in a row is very scary. Luckily me and my child are still alive to be complaining about it, but we seriously came very close to being killed by these faulty brakes twice. I don't know if they lied about the repair or if it really is two exploding brake pumps in a row, but either way, these exploding brakes pumps are going to kill someone and it was almost me and my 6 month old baby. The Chevrolet dealer is auto nation in valencia CA.

Tl the contact owns a 2011 Chevrolet Cruze. The contact stated that while her son was driving approximately 45 mph, attempting to slow down the brakes began to lock. There was smoke coming from the dashboard of the vehicle. The driver pulled over and was able to stop the vehicle by applying excessive pressure to the brake pedal. The driver and the passenger of the vehicle were able to get out of the vehicle by kicking the doors to force them to open. 63 Service Brakes problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Cruze

Failure Date: 02/08/2020

When I drive my vehicle my brakes work fine most of the time. From time to time when I'm at a red light the pedal will slowly start to go all the way down and car will start moving forward. I have to release it and quickly pump the brake again to stop it. Then this has happened more than just a few times; when pulling out of a parking spot on reverse my brakes won't respond and the car will just go backwards and I have to pull the emergency brake because there is no other way of stoping it. Now I do not want to hit any vehicle or person!!!! I have taken it in to shops to have it looked at but no one seams to find the problem, because apparently the breakers have no visible issues. Also one reverse light if not both at times, will stay on while driving.

Once disabled the vehicle will not restart on it's own; it doesn't even turn over. The vehicle will, however, restart if jump started. The first occurrence presented with a check engine light that coded as a faulty cam shaft sensor. This was replaced and the check engine light went away. The second occurrence presented with no lights or warnings. Both the battery and alternator were tested and are functioning.

66 Service Brakes problem of the 2016 Chevrolet Cruze

Failure Date: 11/05/2019

I bought a 2016 Chevrolet cruz ng on September 7, 2016. On September 10, 2019, I took my vehicle to the Chevrolet agency to check the water filtering of the 3 light stop of the car, it leaked water again after the repair of the recall n162064340 . On this visit I was notified that the car had a recall of the steering system (recall n182201620) which presents a failure in the packaging of the steering box causing moisture to enter the part and deactivate the power steering. After checking the car the agency indicated that there was no problem with the steering system and the agency closed the recall n182201620. On November 5, 2019, when I started my vehicle and put it in drive, the steering system was deactivated, preventing me from turning, I immediately stopped the vehicle, and the board threw a message the power steering has been deactivated, drive with caution, the steering wheel is completely hard and it is not possible to manipulate it. I contacted the agency and the car was towed to the Chevrolet workshop at my cost, the agency analyzed the fault and responded that it was not related to recall n182201620 (same fault that is no longer shown on the gm page) and that the the car had no guarantee, the agency notified me that I should pay for the change of the part. Talk to gm 01800 and I report the situation, they contacted me after 72 hours without an answer, after 6 days gm's response was that the vehicle had no warranty and that they would not repair it, the advisor indicated that the recall of the steering system was the responsibility of the agency and that gm was not responsible, they refused to give me a technical response of the failure of the piece and they violation of iatf rule 16949: 2016 clause 10. 2. 6, they refused to perform an analysis of the piece failed and refused to change or repair the fault of the steering system for free.

67 Service Brakes problem of the 2018 Chevrolet Cruze

Failure Date: 10/28/2019

I was involved in a rear end collision with another vehicle when approaching an intersection. Rate of speed was 40 mph, and when brakes were firmly/heavily applied, the vehicle did not stop, which caused me to rear end the vehicle in front of me.

68 Service Brakes problem of the 2017 Chevrolet Cruze

Failure Date: 10/19/2019

First the car shaked while we were waiting at a traffic light on a city street. Then we went to drive into a tunnel and I could not accelerate, we had to roll down the hill to keep moving. Then the brakes would not work properly. The car said service brake assist, I had to step very hard on the brake pedal repeatedly to try to stop the car from hitting the car in front of us. Once we stopped again the car seemed like it had died. I tried to accelerate by stepping fully on the pedal and nothing. Then I put the car in park and tried to turn off the car but that did not work either. It was not until the 3rd time of trying to turn the car off that the vehicle actually turned off. We were able to turn the car back on and at first nothing happened, but then the car started to work again. We found on google that I should not let the car go back into auto-stop in the hope that this would not occur again since we were getting on interstate 95.

69 Service Brakes problem of the 2018 Chevrolet Cruze

Failure Date: 10/18/2019

I was travelling on the interstate at about 50 mph when traffic came to a sudden stop. I slammed on my brakes in plenty of time, but I rear-ended the van in front of me. At the time I thought I must have skidded into the van, but looking at the collision site later, there were no tire marks.

70 Service Brakes problem of the 2016 Chevrolet Cruze

Failure Date: 10/05/2019

Was getting ready to leave the house to go to the store brake pedal became hard after starting the engine. Feels like the brake has a loss of the power assist. After starting the car, put it in drive, release the brake, vehicle begins to move, apply brake, brake pedal was very hard with excessive force needed to stop the vehicle. This just happened out of no where. I have done some research and found the same thing occurred on 2013-2014 models.
