1 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2018

As many others, I now have a leaking fuel sending unit on our 2007 chevy Equinox. Many people have this same problem and chevy chooses not to address it for us by issuing a recall. When the vehicle is running the fuel system is pressurized which causes fuel to spray out of a faulty joint which is made of plastic that cracks, the fuel then drips down from the tank as it pleases around the exhaust and on to the floor.

2 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

3 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 05/22/2018

I purchased a 2007 chevy Equinox from a private party back in January but due to a mix-up with the title and the previous owner I could not title the car and start driving it until March. I've noticed lately a strong smell of gas and a very loud clunking noise from the driver side front wheel. I took it to a local shop in my town and was told I had a gas leak at the top of the tank and that the sway bar linkage needed to be replaced . In doing my research I found that there was a recall for the fuel leak on the 2007 Equinoxes and that many people have had problems with the sway bar linkage going bad and the service stable track light constantly staying on. I also have the problem stating all wheel drive off flashing on my screen. I found that many people put their VIN numbers in the search window and found theirs not to be part of the recall but I'm wondering why if more than just the previous recalled vehicles are having the same issue wouldn't they want another recall issued for the ones that haven't been repaired. I just took it to a gm dealer today in my hometown and they want over $1,400 to fix just the fuel leakage problem I need to know what gm is going to do about it. I don't have 1400 extra dollars to fix this gas leak and I'm scared to drive the vehicle for fear of it starting on fire.

4 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 07/14/2017

I started smelling gas odor when exiting the vehicle , I checked around the vehicle did not see any gas spilling anywhere, checked under the vehicle noticed the fuel tank was wet on the backside , the gas is coming from the top of the fuel tank. . I noticed there was a recall on this model vehicle and checked and said that my vehicle was not under the recall. . . Why? it sounds like the same thing everyone else is having the same thing happen and the recall is fixing the problem. .

10 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 02/07/2013

On 7 Feb. 2013 I took my vehicle into my local chevy dealer to have it checked out as there was a constant smell of fuel. I was informed that the fuel tank would need to be dropped to locate the cause of the fuel leak though there was no visible sign of leaking fuel. I was informed that the fuel module that set above the fuel tank had cracked and was causing the smell/leak. I was infomed that to repair the issue it would cost me over $1200. 00 to repair. I contacted gm and was informed that my vehicle was not involved in the current recall that is ongoing in four other states. I inquired as to why and was informed that my vehicle was not registered nor did I reside in one of the states and there was nothing they could do. I informed gm that it should not matter as to were I lived that they should recall all Equinox as this is a safety issue that should be corrected. I was given reference # from gm in case there is a decision to recall the Equinox for this problem. As other complaints have stated it should not matter were the vehicle is registered if there is this type of problem it should be fixed by gm at no cost to the consumer.

11 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 01/04/2013

There is a harsh smell of fuel coming from somewhere in the fuel tank area. There is no fuel leaks to be found. When starting the vehicle, the starter seems to stay engaged for a few seconds.

12 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 12/15/2012

Vehicle smelled of gasoline odors underneath becoming worse daily until leakage was obvious by gasoline puddles on ground directly under vehicle. After numerous attempts to find a recall or a solution to my problem I finally received information from local gm dealers that there were no recalls concerning my complaint even though several complaints similar to mine had been made. So, I was left with no other alternative but to attempt to fix the problem myself. After the hoses, clamps, restraints, and tank was removed it was apparent that I could not fix it so I had a mechanic to come out, proceed with removing and replacing the leaking lines and hoses and reassembling the tank back onto the vehicle's undercarriage. Of course this would end up costing me 9 arms and 3 legs but at that time the Chevrolet dealer in tupelo ms. Informed me that there was no recall in effect for my problem but that his staff would be more than happy to check out my problem and fix and replace any broken and or defected parts but they would only do so if and when I delivered my vehicle to their shop, also at my expense. A few months after all this happened and a few months ago, gm sent out a brochure stating that there was indeed a recall regarding my specific problem and that I should take immediate action to get my vehicle to the gm dealer (closest one from pontotoc being tupelo - dealership name withheld) where it would be professionally repaired free of any charges to me. If there indeed is or ever was a recall covering my problem, shouldn't there also be a reinstatement fee associated with it for victims that have been misinformed or who's problem initiated before the actual recall went into effect or is this just another way the auto companies make more money off the same individuals that paid the price to bail them out in the first place? concerned citizen (taxpayer).

13 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 10/08/2012

Have a 2007 Equinox with fuel leak at top of fuel tank. Dealer says same issue as the ones with the recall notice, yet my vehicle is not on the list. Dealer says $1300 to repair unless I receive recall notice, but it probably would not happen. Dealer also stated have seen several vehicles with same issue and not on recall list. If so many vehicles have same defect, then why are they not all being recalled? does there have to be a fire or explosion or fatality before something general motors does something?.

14 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 09/17/2012

We start to smell a very heavy odor of gasoline, we stop and looked to find out what was happening but could not find any gasoline leaking on ground, we took it for grant that maybe the gas tank had an over fill, but the problem just kept continuing to get worst, we happen to hear a news report about gas leak problem with 2007 chevy Equinox so we took it to the dealer and they said they did not have any knowledge of a recall and we would have to pay about $1000. 00 to repair problem and try to get money back from general motors( ourisman Chevrolet, in bowie MD. ).

15 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 09/16/2012

Parked the car in the garage, and came back out a few minutes later and gasoline fumes were overwhelming. Removed it from garage and saw puddle of gasoline near the back gas tank, underneath the car. Before I took it to the dealership the next morning, looked up online to see if anyone else had experienced this problem with this model of car. I found six (6) pages of complaints for the same thing. It was the pressure hose to pump line resulting from a faulty pump. I also noted that the majority of these pump failures happened around the same mileage, which tells me there should be some type of recall on these pumps and pump lines. If I had not gone back into the garage, I am sure I would have had a major fire in the garage or in the car.

16 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2012

The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that there was an overpowering gasoline odor present inside and outside of the vehicle. The current mileage was approximately 95,256.

18 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 08/15/2012

Strong gas smell from the tank area at appx 58000 mi. My mechanic could not locate the leak, said I would have to take it to the dealer. The dealer said it was not covered on a recall for several states. Am I mistaken, or didn't all these 07 Equinox's come from the same assembly plant ?????? online research shows many complaint's with this same problem. At present my problem still exists (seems to be getting worse, smelling stronger) cannot afford the repair. If in the future I am able to purchase a new vehicle, I will certainly do so with a different car company. (maybe if I moved to------------------.

19 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 08/12/2012

It is a recall on 2007 chevy Equinox for the fuel tank leaking. I called the gm dealership and they act like they have no idea what I am talking about.

20 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 08/09/2012

My 07 chevy Equinox is leaking from the gas tank on the rear passenger side of the car. A very strong odor is coming into the car I called the local Chevrolet dealer and they told me that this was a on going problem with this year Equinox but it hasn't been re called . I looked up this problem and there's a ton of cars with the same problem this is so dangerous to have. I have counted over 200 other complaints for the same problem, on the same model year on various other automotive help sites. I feel this is a very serious defect putting human life's in jeopardy. This is very dangerous and can result in the vehicle catching on fire if someone flicks a cigarette or there is a rear end or passenger side collision.

21 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 07/10/2012

Strong smell of gasoline is noticed after vehicle is started and ran. Checking beneath fuel tank, it is visible that gasoline is leaking from pump/connections area on top of tank. Also has the leak in vicinity of exhaust creating a potential fire hazard, not to mention health hazard from breathing fuel vapors. The exhaust will need to be removed to facilitate removal of fuel tank in order to correct or replace leaking pump. The vehicle is still in operable condition and a person would assume that external leakage would result in a safety recall to repair manufacturing defect. Normally you do not have a leakage of the pump before a complete failure of said pump. I personally think the manufacturer should recall and pay for repairs. And if a person has already made the repair that the repair fees be reimbursed. Vehicle does not in my opinion have enough age or miles to be having this problem.

22 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 06/14/2012

I started smelling gas fumes on the 14th of June 2012. They got worse until I took the chevy to a dealer in kingman az. They found that their was a gas leak at the top of the gas tank. To correct this problem you have to remove the whole rear end to correct. The car is an awl which makes it more difficult to remove. The dealer suggested that we do not drive the car as of the fuel danger. Because of this we were forced to buy a new car which we really did not want to do.

23 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 05/15/2012

Several months back I started noticing a strong gas smell coming from the right side rear near the exhaust of my vehicle. I have been told that the tank has to be dropped (a very expensive service) to determine the issue with fuel and that there is a visible leak when the car is parked and running. I have noticed that there are numerous complaints about this same problem from other 2007 chevy Equinox owners. This is obviously a manufacture defect that needs to addressed by a proper recall. This defect is very dangerous and could be fatal if not fixed.

24 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 04/23/2012

I started smell fuel and around 10/04/2012 I notice it was leaking fuel around the fuel tank.

25 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2012

Anytime we start the Equinox up, all you smell is raw gasoline smell. It fills up the cabin, and gives me bad headaches. We had looked for obvious leaks but didn't see any at first. We weren't losing much if any gas mileage, until the last 2 tanks when it's gotten worse. My coworkers know when I get to work without seeing me because the fuel odor is so bad, they can smell me upon arrival. I have been having headaches frequently, and sometimes even feel nauseated. Last Monday was the first time, my husband was driving behind me in our other vehicle and he told me to pull over at the next gas station, because I was actually leaking fuel this time. I was scared to death, here I still had about 20-25 miles to drive before getting home, and yet I am like a traveling explosion waiting to happen. I researched Monday night and found that there are tons of others in our same boat. This is a danger to us, and everyone else on the road when it gets ready to blow. Gm needs to back up their products and do a mandatory recall before people get killed from their negligence. We like most of the people who have filed complaints have been quoted well over $1000-1800 to fix this problem. Like most others, we are struggling for money, and now have one less vehicle we can drive, but still owe on it, so we're stuck. This is not right, what is it going to take, someone dying before gm will recall this??? ## VIN passed ## chevy Equinox 2007 ##.

26 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 10/13/2009

Two weeks ago, started smelling gasoline while driving. Didn't see any obvious leakage. Took to sullivan Saturn/Chevrolet to have emission repair but they can't identify problem without removing gas tank. They charge for this $500 without knowing the exact problem or if it is covered by emission warranty. The car is two years old and the leak, whether emission or tank should not have happened. I think possible defect and it is very dangerous to drive. This should be covered as a safety issue and emission issue.
