1 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 09/14/2012

I had been smelling a strong odor of gas so I took it to my mechanic to have a diagnosis of the problem, he said that there was a leak in the top of the gas tank and I should get ahold of gm to see what type of recall there was on this problem. So when I got home I checked on line and found there was a recall #12v45900, so I got ahold of gm and talked to customer rep. [xxx] telling her the problem I was having she said that she would have to have another person contact me , so [xxx] called me , I again told her the problem and she said I would have to take it to a Chevrolet dealership for a diagnosis, I told here I had already had one done but she said I had to have one done at the dealership , so with her on the line she called reliable Chevrolet and we set me a appointment for October 17th @ 8am. So on October 17th I took my Equinox to the dealership and they ran there diagnosis and told me the same thing I had already told them, also charging me $98. 55 for that information, they also told me they would need to remove the gas tank to check further and that would take about 4 hrs @ $98. 55 per hr, I told them I could not afford to have that done and I would contact gm as soon as I got home, they also said I shouldn't be driving it cause it was dangerous . [xxx] contacted me back the next day and said there was nothing gm could do for me even though they know there is a problem but because the recall has not been published they cant help me. She also told me I could have it repaired myself and when they published the recall I could get reimbursed. I told her I work a minimum wage job and could not afford that. I again ask her if they know there is a problem why not fix it and again she said that the recall has not been published and there was nothing they would do for me. All I am asking is to get my Equinox fixed and no longer have a gas smell.

2 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 09/04/2012

This vehicle started having a strong odor of gas that was filling up my garage and home. Took it to the dealership who told me that this car is very dangerous to drive due to huge gas leak. It cost $300 to have the fuel tank dropped to find out the problem. I was told it was the fuel pump assembly which cost $800 to get fixed. I was also advise this is becoming a common problem with these car. I have a newborn and a 5 year old that was riding in the car with a gas leak. My car has to remain in the shop until I can come up with the money to have it repaired. This is not only a health issue but someone could die as a result of this. A recall is needed immediately before someone life is taken. If something is not done soon, I will be contacting the media and have this issue placed on the news due to several other complaints about this same problem from other people.

3 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2011

The gas tank/fuel pump began emitting a fuel odor in the summer of 2011. I thought that it was from recently filling the tank. It was a hot texas summer when this began to happen. The smell would come and go without reason. It did happen more often in the summer. This past winter, when having routine oil change and inspection, it was found that the fuel pump had a crack in it and that is where the gas odor was originating. It was under recall, but Chevrolet keeps saying that our VIN number had not come up. The mechanic replaced the fuel pump at nearly $900. 00. Chevrolet keeps denying our claim. It appears that it has denied many, many claims. We have received the original recall letter but they have not recalled my specific vehicle. I would think that something that they were aware of as far back as 2010 should be replaced and reimbursed within less than 6 months after you personally have it repaired.
