Engine Burning Oil problems of the 2010 Chevrolet Equinox - part 1

This year and model of the Chevrolet Equinox has a known issue for oil consumption. I am getting an oil change, on average, every 1,500 miles. My car has stall while driving on the interstate. It stalls most mornings after being turned on for 15-20 seconds. I've also had it stall when changing gears. This is very unsafe for any driver and then engine needs to be replaced.

My vehical is burnig oil I have chaged my oil twice already this year I just changed two sensors now im getting a code for the converter.

No one told me when I got this car how bad the oil consumption was! I go through 5 quarts of oil in less than 2,000 miles. It's stalled out while driving with no warning. It's super dangerous.

I took my SUV to the dealership on 1-8-2020 and informed them that engine light stayed on,and had a little shake, felt like it was going to cut off,and it was burning oil,left vehicle at dealership for a couple of hours, got a call saying there was no oil on dip stick, so there was a oil change did, and told to drive for 1000 miles then return for recheck,possible camshaft position fault,drove car ,but before it meet the 1000 miles in had to add a quart of oil to vehicle this was over the weekend, called and informed dealership they said to bring it back so they could check it, took SUV back and was told they couldn't find nothing wrong, but it was still taking alot of oil, now the camshaft is no good, they just didn't want to fix the problem when the warranty was on it, now that the warranty is gone they want me to pay for the work,fyi there was a warranty on the SUV when I was complaining so it could have be fixed then,the same problem I was complaining about,is the same problem I got now,why do dealerships always get over people, the camshaft went out 11-23-2020.

A couple of days ago I started experiencing issues with vehicle. At speeds over 60 the steering wheel would shake and when coming to a stop the car would do a rocking motion. Today on the highway the car was driving fine than randomly a light popped on that said low oil consumption turn off engine and the car began excessively smoking from under hood. I pulled over and checked I the oil and it was empty added 4 quarts it was still empty looked under car and oil had leaked everywhere. No prior warning lights or check oil or low oil pressure lights were on. I get proper oil changes when due. A couple of moths back I was having several electrical issues with the vehicle as well were the lights on the dash would pop on and off air and radio would turn itself on and off, doors locking and unlocking etc. And took it to a certified chevy dealer to have it checked and have the issue fixed and these issues were months after I had the transmission replaced after it fails months after purchasing g the car.

I was driving down the road with my husband, three small children and unborn child when my Equinox shut off I'm the middle of me driving and white smoke appeared from under the hood. It would start but as soon as I put it into gear the engine would cut off. Finally the engine just completely stopped cutting on. My husband, a police officer and a good samaritan were able to push the chevy off the road into the ditch safely. The chevy then had to be towed to a car shop to get looked at. This vehicle cut off in the middle of me driving it!!! with children in the back. Then engine blew a hole through it. Less than 200,000 miles on it with brand new spark plugs and a fresh oil change. Certain models of chevy have an engine defect which is internally in the engine. Your vehicle will burn oil with no oil light coming on to let you know. There's no leak coming from anywhere. The engine just drinks it all up within a few days and then will blow up if you're not knowledgeable about vehicles. I was on a busy road when all of this happened. We could have been seriously injured if it wasn't for us going less than the speed limit.

While driving the vehicle without warning or any evidence of problem I turned the corner of a intersection and the engine while still running lost all power for acceleration. Luckily there was no injury to myself or the vehicle. I shut the engine off and it would not restart , there seemed to be no pressure it was later determin hat the timing chain and camshaft broke sending metal through out the engine. Resulting in the need for a new engine. This is problem cause by the oil consumption recall on this vehicle which I did have repaired. The oil was full and truck drove great one minute then the next minute the engine was gone chevy needs to evaluate and help consumers with these type problem related to known recalls. We have invested or money in a product that fails us due to engineering issues causing the consumer added expenses.

Vehicle is exhibiting stall and quitting actions at stop lights and stop signs. Also excessive oil consumption having to change oil or add oil.

Vehicle is burning astronomical amounts of oil, even when car is sitting. Car runs rough and idles and acts as if it will stall out. The abs and traction control lights have come on. Car acts like it won't start and takes a few times before it actually starts up. Have replaced so many parts and of course at 155,000 miles for a 2010 Equinox we don't qualify under the pending lawsuit. Car is parked because it uses so much oil.

I was driving one day and these lights popped on out of no where the exhaust resginator cracking the car constantly has wheel bearing issue and the engine is burning oil it's not doing what it's supposed to do with it. I was driving on the l-90 thruway at 65 mph. I. Am also having head light blowing I have changed the headlights 4 times this year.

General motors have been at no assistance to me since my purchase of my 2010 Chevrolet Equinox I purchased it February/March of 2016 and have had continuous issue with the vehicle, I contacted the place of purchase and general motors numerous times about the complaint of my vehicle. Also with the attached proof of repairs I referred to the dealers who did the repairs and general motors of any current recalls. Back in October 2019 my check engine light came on because my converter went out and my 100k warranty expired, gm was not in understanding and would not assist. Then I did my own research and found there was a oil consumption law suite and a separate special extended warranty in the catalytic converter but only until 120k. My issue is general motors will not assist me due to me being over the 120k mileage even though I inquired about it time after time since the time I purchased the vehicle. I have kept up to date in my address even when I moved out of state. I'm just looking for assistance in why my vehicle is not covered under the law suite or covered with the special warranty with my catalytic converter. I never received any mail notification and all my repairs were done at a licensed certified general motor dealer and they are aware of this issue/recalls and I was not told of the issues. I would just like to get my vehicle fixed since I spent so much money on it as it is. I had to do my own research online to find this information which could of been avoided if I was contacted front the beginning. I was never notified of a recall but once back in 2016 for a windshield wiper recall.

Engine's oil consumption issues are ridiculous. Gm has a special extended warranty for this vehicle, called adjustment 14159, but failed to notify me of the special recall and it's end date of 7/31/2019. This engine is awful, hence why there were recalls and they are now being sued for it. Timing chains, engine knocking, oil consumption, pistons and rings. . Secondly, the transmission is awful. This thing blew before it was even due for its first service! my owners manual states the service is recommended on it, including fluid change, at 100,000 miles - I'm at 96,125 miles and this is where I sit. Gm is denying all liability for both of these.

Engine has major oil consumption issues. I am burning through an average of 2 to 3 quarters of full synthetic oil within a 2500 mile span. Secondly, the transmission is extremely poor. Only 96,000 miles and am already have issues in reverse, trouble going up hills, high rpm�s, and shaking/sputtering. This would happen at any time once out of park, flat land or hill.

There is a gm lawsuit for my make and model of car. Gm is fully aware there are issues with the engine concerning excessive oil consumption and the damage it does to the cars. They are hiding behind the lawsuit and making it the burden to the customer to provide proof that excessive oil consumption happened to their car. I am one of the persons that has been denied compensation due to the fact my vehicle exceeded the 10 year mark in the lawsuit when I purchased this vehicle in June of 2019 not knowing anything about a lawsuit regarding this vehicle and immediately having issues with the oil consumption and damage to my car's engine. I provided documents needed and was denied. I belong to a group on facebook for this lawsuit and customers that are getting screwed out of compensation for money already put into their vehicles. I purchased my car for $10,000 in June 2019 and have already put almost $6,000 in repairs due to excessive oil consumption back into my car. I am upside down in my car, have barely had it a year and half and the check engine light has come on again and is mostly like due to the same issues. I cannot afford a new vehicle because of the existing loan. I am angry at gm because they know there are existing issues in all of these cars and there is even a new lawsuit that has been filed for more of their vehicles. I am livid for all these people including me that cannot afford to have their vehicles in shitty condition particularly now when individuals have lost their livelihoods and then on top of that having to fix their cars for thousands of dollars. I am a single mom and this is devastating to me. I have invoices and such to back my claims as well.

�oil consumption and driveability , vehicle using more than one quart of oil every 400 miles or less, was at busy intersection in city on major city street and car froze up, would not accelerate and almost caused another vehicle to hit me from behind. Turned off vehicle, then turned key and it started long enough to drive into nearest parking lot. Had to press gas peddle all the way down and vehicle would not reverse at at. Tow truck was called and towed to local Chevrolet dealership. It was diagnosed with oil consumption problems due to the 2010 engine that it was built with. Was advised to keep watch on oil until decide how to fix engine.

I took my Equinox to the garage started out as an oil consumption issue then turned into the whole motor getting rebuilt.

This car burns oil fast and I learned the hard way. 2 years after buying the car all the pistons in the engine bent due to lack of oil. When the car was getting fixed the mechanic said it was bone dry and I had just had an oil change 2 months prior. $3,200 later the car was fixed, but it still had issues shifting. In colder weather the car felt like it would barely move. I had no real mechanical issues until a year later. I had driven it 45 miles and stopped at a gas station, when I went to turn the car back on all of the emergency lights came on as well as the �stabilitrak� light and the car wouldn't move. The only way I could get it to move was by turning the traction off, and was thankfully able to drive it home. I got it into the gm dealership and they said the stability track and the crankshaft needed replaced. My abs light was still failing and I'm total it was another $1,400 of work. Now the engine seems to be making a cranking noise. I'm tired of wasting money on this piece of junk!!!!!.

I have spent more than 10k on repairs on my car due to the excessive oil consumption problems. That includes a replacement of engine and catalytic converter, plus other repairs while they tried to find out what was wrong with the engine. I am part of the class-action lawsuit and I have provided all documents to the settler and my claim has been denied. Never buying a gm vehicle again.

Vehicle began experiencing stalling out. Determined to be caused by metal shavings in engine. The only prior engine work on the vehicle had been done by Chevrolet to address a recall in 2013 for high oil consumption. The engine was rebuilt in December of 2013. No other work was done to the engine. The repair for this issue was replacement of the engine.

The vehicle is burning oil out before the given mileage causing the engine light to come on loud knocking in the engine smoke.

I have bought this car may 23rd 2018. The catalytic converter needed replacing and light still will not go off and code will not delete, the O2 sensors keep going out (3 times already) and the camshaft position actuator solenoid valve has been replaced 5 times in 11 months. The oil consumption is insane, I cannot make it to the oil notification the car gives me, without putting 3 qts of oil , before the notification recommends. I have no oil leak!!!.

Oil burning which leads to a oil change almost 1500 miles with top off service between changes. Then shaking of engine while in idle and while accelerating.

Oil consumption. I've spend 2k in repairs over this past year for oil consumptions problems and it still consume an excessive amount of oil, to the point I have to add a quart a week to stop the oil from extremely running low.

Oil consumption. I have to put oil in it every two week because oil is empty. It does not leak and the vehicle is part of a class action lawsuit 4 oil consumption issues. I called Chevrolet they only want to cover half the parts to repair which will cost me an additional $3,000. I have already replaced the timing chain at $1,800 and the transmission at another $3,700.

2010 Chevrolet Equinox 2. 4l engine is burning oil. I took this to the deal and was pushed away saying I had oil leak. This is not true. I took my 2010 Chevrolet Equinox to second dealer and they advised the was metal shavings and the oil consumption was useless because the of the shavings. Now gm will not replace the engine, I provided the requested documents so that the deal could make the exception to replace the engine but was denied. Every time I go to start the engine and drive off it stalls.

The contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Equinox. While driving approximately 55 mph, the engine started to hesitate. The contact pulled over in a parking lot to check the oil, and noticed there was no oil in the reservoir. The contact also stated that three quarts of oil were added to the vehicle one month before. The contact had experienced the oil consumption issue for approximately a year. The vehicle was taken to the dealer (duteau Chevrolet in Lincoln, nebraska) and was informed that the warranty was extended by the manufacturer however, the VIN did not qualify. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 101,391.

Excessive oil consumption. Gm has issued service bulletins and extended the coverage out to 120,000 miles, dealer keeps requiring oil consumption tests and validated it was outside of specifications and still not fixing issue claiming "gm" is the one requiring the testing.

I have a 2010 chevy Equinox and I just got it out of the shop for the 2nd time in 3 weeks within that time it burned through all the oil that was in the engine from a brand new oil change. We have had problems with extremely high oil consumption. We had the pistons & rings replaced a couple years ago but it did not fix the problem at all. We regularly change our oil but at this rate we need to put oil in it weekly. The mechanic told us that our engine is about to go out because of burning of the oil so fast. This needs to be recalled and now. Changing just the pistons and rings will not fix it. Chevrolet owes this year of Equinox a new, solid engine that doesnt excessively burn oil at an alarming rate. We have been set up to fail by financing this vehicle.

Oil consumption. 6 months ago called antelope valley Chevrolet 1160 motor lane, lancaster,CA about oil consumption. I noticed no oil was visible on the engine oil dip stick. The service advisor stated make sure to fill it up and watch it no need to bring it in at this time. On March 15, 2017 the vehicle popped an engine code for both knock sensors and performance of the sensors. I then made an appointment that evening for the following morning. After making the appointment I checked the engine oil and no oil was present at that time again. I added 2. 5 quarts of oil to make the drive to dealership the next morning. I also researched and found that there was an open recall for oil consumption. The dealer diagnosed my vehicle by doing an oil change and found metal flakes in the oil filter. The engine oil light never came on during the last six months. The dealership stated the engine needed to be replaced at a price of $8,000. As a military member who has moved 6 times in last 3 years it is really hard to keep receipts. The dealership stated without maintenance records they will not do anything or provide any assistance. The service advisor said that we can have you talk to sales department and see what they can do for you. On Monday March 20, 2017 I went into the dealership wanting to talk with service manager robert. He stated they couldn't do anything without service record and I finally convinced him to submit it for warranty work. That evening I called corporate and spoke with customer care. They took my claim and called me back on Monday March 27, 2017. Corporate stated they could not do anything or provide any assistance. Today, March 29, 2017 service advisor called me and stated they would not do any warranty work. I then stated I will pick my vehicle up and will be filing an official complaint. General motors is not backing their product up of this know issue.

Timing chain recalled by mfg fixed, excessive oil consumption, timing chain failure again, fixed again $2700. 00, continued excessive oil consumption complete engine failure at 98,000 miles.

Excessive oil consumption. Every 1,000 miles or less I need to add at least 1 quart of oil. No oil leak. Hubler Chevrolet in indianapolis has investigated the issue. They also indicated no leak and that the vehicle is consuming excessive oil. They recommend piston and ring placement. I declined service at that time as there is an active recall on 2010 Equinox for this issue. However, my VIN is not part of this recall. I spoke with a representative from gm and they suggested I contact NHTSA to see if my car can be considered part of the recall since I am having the same problem and recommended repairs as other 2010 Equinox. Hubler Chevrolet service manager recommended I check the oil 500 miles to ensure adequate oil and add if necessary. Attached is the recall paperwork I found for the 2010 chevy Equinox, which does not apply to my vehicle. Also attached is the receipt with diagnostic and recommended repair from the service department. Please consider my request to add my vehicle and any other 2010 chevy Equinox with the same problem to the active recall to fix the excessive oil consumption issue. While I stay on top of checking the oil, I am very concerned that my engine will lock up when I am driving. I truly feel unsafe in my vehicle. Thank you.

Wasn't informed about the excessive oil consumption. Letter never made it to my house. Excessive oil consumption has caused the catalytic converter to fail prematurely . Chevy issued a special warranty but it disqualifies you if you have more 120k miles. Chevy has known about this issues since 2011 but intentionally waited to issue special bulletin because they wanted to disqualify as many people as possible. . The service rep told me since I didn't pay the previous repair (which were manufacturer defects) that I am basically responsible for the repairs. This car has had over 4 major repairs that were due to manufacturer defects but the rep is saying that since I'm the original owner they won't assist me. I told her the issue is with the car, it has nothing to do with the ownership which is why you're issuing all the special warranties. None of the major repairs that were done on this car are listed in the vehicle history report on carfax or on the gm owner site where it states that such reports will appear. I got the service report from the dealership when I saw the sales associate with it. I told the rep had the information about the excessive oil consumption been listed on my chevy profile I would have had the issue fixed thus saving the catalytic converter. She still claimed it was sent. The catalytic converters need to be recalled without exception. Honda replaced my cracked my engine block no questions asked! they have honored ever warranty I've ever had and fixed every manufacturer defect without drama. I cannot say that about chevy. They have caused me nothing but stress over issues they created and have gotten away with it and today I just learned that my car now has a fuel pump recall.

We purchased this vehicle in Dec 2014 at 42,000 miles as a certified pre owned $15000 cash. The vehicle started experiencing engine trouble in July 2016 it we were in the process of of diagnostics for excess oil consumption and engine repair. After the care broke down on a major highway with my children in the backseat. Aug 2016 the car stalls again on the highway with my children in it. The transmission has failed. We havent even owned the vehicle for 2 years. It only has 76,000 miles on it. But gm says its past the 5 year warranty mark by 8 months so they wont help. I am not the only person having these issues with this make and model. There are stories all over the internet where people have stalled on highways from this issue! it needs to ge recalled. This is a death trap. We could have been seriously injured ow worse. Unfortunately thats what it takes now a days for a company to care.

My car began overconsuming oil the moment I bought it in 2016. It broke down on the highway and had no oil it even though I just had the oil replaced merely days before. We were in another state, so I had to have the car towed and rented a rental car for several days. It cost me over $1,000 to complete the repair and associated rental costs. Ultimately, the car was subject to an oil consumption test and the entire engine had to be rebuilt. Last year, my transmission completely went out while driving on a street. I had to get that replaced too. Now gm is refusing to cover the cost of the repair under the class action settlement for the oil consumption issue.

My 2010 chevy Equinox started with an oil consumption problem 86,000 miles may 2016 all new pistons, rings, high pressure fuel pump timing chain and seals covered on gm extended warranty. 1 month later the tranny goes 87,000 mi towed car to dealer they are telling me I have no warranty will cost anywhere from $3-5,000. All I read is bad news about this transmission.
