Three oil changes all done at carl black Buick GMC, llc, 11225 alpharetta hwy, roswell, GA 30076 when the vehicle states there is 40% oil life left. Each time, oil has been completely depleted creating a loud clicking sound in the engine. Next oil change schedule 1-month in advance of service recommendation from dealer oil sticker. This has been a persistent problem throughout the life of the vehicle. Dealership thus far has not been helpful contacting gm corporate to assist. This is the same 2013 chevy Equinox already part of an approved and proven issue with gm motors that burn excessive oil even when being maintained by their certified mechanics at their dealerships. This is an 11-month follow-up after initially reporting the same issue on 2/21/20 - NHTSA id 11310678.
My vehicle now has an engine problem due to my oil burning really fast. I have taken it up to an auto repair shop because I have been noticing a weird ticking sound in my engine. They told me its because my oil was very very low and it has already started to affect my engine. I only drive to work and back with me car mostly on main paved roads and sometimes on the highway. I noticed the sound more when I was in town maintaining my speed at 25 mph the ticking sound was very loud. It would also sound loud if I was turning right and/or left. I would only notice the ticking sound when the car was in motion. When it is stationary I would not hear the ticking sound. I am very scared to continue driving my car because I have a 3 year old that goes everywhere with me and I don't want to put her in any harm.
Engine is consuming oil at an alarming rate and we have to add oil frequently (approximately every 800-1000 miles). There is also a failure with the oil light, as it does not illuminate when the oil is low. We just happened to check it when there was a slight ticking sound. There is an apparent recall on this vehicle, but it only covers vehicles within 7 year 6 months of it being put into service or 120,000 miles. It has 129,000 currently. We bought this vehicle used and were not notified by gm of the recall until it was already past the cut-off date and mileage. This is a terrible problem, and there has been many complaints according to my research. I called the number on the recall claim and they said to contact a local dealer. I called the dealer and they said to contact gm. I called gm and they said nothing could be done. So I'm now contacting the attorney listed on the recall to see if I can get some help with some sort of extension. Gm needs to do better.
So first started to use oil more than it should between changes but it would be just 1 quart low it would knock. Than transfer case went out than a wheel bearing went out. I like my car but it's stuff I keep maintained but seems like every time I turn around something goes wrong. Now when you open the door an the keys are in my hand I hear a clicking noise like the computer is one in it also once an awhile you can smell gas not always. It's like it's costing money to fix it on stuff that shouldn't go bad if you maintain it. I talked to four other people who own Equinox an different year rang from 2011 to 2017 with same issues. Why is it we the public have to fix issues when you maintain the car!! I don't want to trade but if it goes down again it's going to be trade for a non chevy car I have had chevy since I started driving 40 plus years my second Equinox never had issues with the first one like I have this one . I changed batter in it thinking it would take care of the clicking but it didn't I almost don't want to drive it to my doctors appointments which are quit often due to will it die on me an leave me stranded on the road.
Takata recall. Driving car to work, started making a clinking sound about 3 miles down the road I arrived at work. Parked the car and oil started pouring out of the rear main seal. Got the car towed home. Called gm they stated this is a common problem and have fixed over 7 this year.
I own a 2013 chev. Equinox that I purchased brand new. I used my local dealership for all my regular maintenance as recommended. Somewhere around 60,000 miles I mentioned to my service tech that my car was making a knocking and ticking noise and appeared to be low on oil. He conducted the reg. Oil change and said all looked good. My oil consumption continued to increase with no low oil indicator light ever coming on. I was having to add oil between reg. Oil changes with no help from the dealership. At just over 100,000 miles, I mentioned to my service tech again that it was becoming a hassle always having to but oil in my car between services. He said he could do a oil consumption test, but gm would not do anything because it was outside the warranty. I informed him that I had mentioned it to him on several occasions just to learn he never made a note on my records about it. He changed the oil and asked me to come back after so many miles. I went back as requested knowing it was low because of the ticking noise and he said it was within the normal oil consumption based on gm. He then asked me to come back again after so many miles which I did. I know it was low because I checked it myself before going by and it was only showing on the tip of the dip stick. Again he said the same thing about being within the normal consumption based on gm. He then added oil per my request. Still at no point did my oil light ever come on. After getting no where with the dealership, I decided to no long have my oil changed by them. But still having to but 2-3 qts of oil in between oil changes and even changing the oil more often. I recently took my car to another mechanic to see if there was any leaks and he said that my engine is known to burn high amounts of oil and there is nothing he can do to help and recommended filing a complaint with gm.
Extreme cold temps (-20below), while driving heard popping sound, 2 miles later, car started to run rough went back home, oil was draining out. Car was parked, put more oil in, drained right out. Mechanic stated the crankshaft rear oil seal gasket had blown. This is referenced in gm sb14882. My VIN wasn't covered even though what happened was exactly as stated in the sb. Sb was updated on Feb 4, 2019 (#19-na-021) , again I was still not covered. I had heard over 200 michigan Equinox customers were in service due to same issue and the cold temperatures we were experiencing in michigan. The amount of oil I have to put in, 2 qrts every 2 weeks is also a concern.
The contact owns a 2013 Chevrolet Equinox. While the contact's wife was driving 15 mph, an abnormal noise was heard. While attempting to drive back home, the vehicle stalled. The contact attempted to restart the vehicle and heard a clicking noise. The contact mentioned that the vehicle underwent an oil change approximately three weeks ago. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that there was catastrophic engine failure and the engine needed to be replaced. The dealer and the manufacturer were not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 90,000. The VIN was not available.
Engine started making a loud tapping noise over 3 weeks ago, I made an appointment to firestone to check the noise . They are stunned to find out that I have no oil left on my engine but no leaks was found. They suggest to get the oil fast as they refuse to inspect further. They don't want to be responsible for my engine. I hurried to a close grocery store and get a 5w-30 synthetic oil. I made an appointment to midas since firestone refuse there service. They did an oil change and suggest that I might need a new engine due to loud noise and metal pieces that came from oil change. I was driving with my kids for a week with a dried up engine oil. That could have been a big disaster. They are saying to get a new engine, a money that we don't have right now.
While driving on the interstate on a cold, winter day, my car started smoking and making a loud tapping sound. After pulling off of the highway, it was discovered that oil had splattered under and on all sides of my car. The rear seal in the motor broke resulting in me having to pay > $5k to have fixed because my car was not on the list of vehicles covered in a previous recall.
Tl the contact owns a 2013 Chevrolet Equinox. While driving approximately 60 mph, a loud clicking noise was present coming from the engine and the warning flash displayed to "shut engine off due to no oil". The vehicle stalled and was towed to the local dealer (matthew hargreaves, 2000 e. 12 mile rd, royal oak mi) where it was diagnosed that the rear main engine seal and cylinder head were faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The VIN was invalid. The failure mileage was 118,000.
The contact owns a 2013 Chevrolet Equinox. While driving at an unknown speed, a loud abnormal ticking sound emitted from the vehicle without warning. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that there was no oil in the vehicle. The technician performed an oil change and compression test every 1,000 miles. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the technician stated that the vehicle was burning oil rapidly. The vehicle was not repaired. On another occasion, the vehicle failed to shift gears properly. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The transmission was repaired with unknown parts. The contact also stated that the windshield wipers failed to operate intermittently. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 33,000.
