Oil consumption is still at an alarming rate, had the "recall" done by the dealership but it is still not fixed. Called the dealership they said there isnt another recall. Putting in a formal complaint to get this vehicle fixed. As today it experienced its first engine seize. And it burned through 4 quarts of oil in 4000 miles.
Engine timing was off about a year ago. Had to get my vehicle towed and spend a lot to repair it. Low oil was spotted at that point, but the special warranty wasn't out yet detailing to replace catalytic converter and O2 sensors if there was high rates of oil consumption. Nearly a year later, and I'm seeing timing issues again. I am not seeing high engine oil consumption yet. I believe there are many additional issues wrong with these engines from 2010-2017 Equinox/terrain that have still not been addressed. People are experiencing these issues and having their whole engines replaced multiple times just for the issues to come back on a new engine.
We purchased a preowned 2013 chevy Equinox from Chevrolet dealer in 2017 and have noticed high oil consumption. Have taken it to regular oil changes and on some occasions were told we had an oil leak, but we never noticed leaks. Now we requested a diagnosis from dealer because the oil consumption has gotten real bad. We were told that we may have small leaks and also an issue with the pistons that are allowing engine to consume oil at a high rate. They quoted a cost of fix of $5055! seems to me from lawsuits that Chevrolet knew they were selling me a lemon and feel this issue should be fixed by them at no cost to me. The high rate of consumption of oil is while driving the vehicle.
My vehicle is burning an excessive amount of oil and no oil light comes on to let me know my oil is low. I was driving home from work on the highway when my engine started knocking because I had no oil. I had to put oil in my car 3 times within 3,000 miles because it was almost empty. Had to have new converter put on due to consuming so much oil. I was never notified about the special warranty to change piston rings until my special warranty expired. I also had the oil consumption test done and gm is doing nothing to help fix my vehicle.
Oil consumption. Its bull crap that there has been no recall and we are taking losses!!!.
Tl the contact owns a 2013 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact had received an unknown manufacturer's recall notification for excessive oil consumption due to piston ring wear and took the vehicle to Chevrolet of milford, inc. (655 bridgeport Ave, milford, CT 06460) for the recall repair. The dealer informed the contact that per the manufacturer's policy for the oil consumption test, the vehicle needed to be driven for 2,000 miles then the recall could be repaired. The contact stated that after the vehicle was driven close to the 2,000 miles as directed by the dealer, the vehicle experienced rattling and knocking then stalled. The check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was towed back to the dealer. The failure was diagnosed that the crank had no compression and that the engine needed to be disassembled to examine failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was over the warranty coverage period and referred the contact to NHTSA for assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 66,000.
Car burns oil as fast as it does fuel. It stalled in a bad traffic situation that almost got me and my two children into an accident.
Oil consumption. 76,990 miles with excessive oil use. No leak did a complete check over a 2 week period to make sure no leak. . Just using about 1 quart oil in about 2 weeks/ only driving 2 and from work about 28 miles round trip 5 days a week.
There is documented history with the oil consumption problem these vehicles have had. I am just one more person filing this. I do believe there is a risk of injury if the vehicle fails while driving. I also believe, however, that the only way for the masses of individuals affected by the fundamental engine issue to have any recourse is to have a recall issued.
Found a pool of oil on the driveway in the morning, had it towed to a dealer, told the main rear seal let go, oil changed at dealer 5 days prior for an oil consumption check, because of constant oil loss, in the past two years. Never had a visible leak on the engine or oil spots on the driveway or garage since owning the vehicle since 2014.
I am following up to an ongoing issue regarding our 2013 chevy Equinox that recently had the lower end rebuilt due to excessive oil consumption. For some brief history on the vehicle, it began using a significant amount of oil around the 70,000-mile mark. Prior to the lower end rebuild, I was adding nearly 8 quarts of oil every 3,000 miles. The vehicle has 95,000 on it now. Fast forward to late this past winter [early 2020], I received a letter in the mail stating the sca (15285/16118 coverage) was extended for the 2013 model year 2. 4l ecotec. Upon receiving the letter, I was in the process of making an appointment for the oil consumption issue, however, this was the same time the state of wisconsin shut down for covid reasons. This was, unfortunately, was around the time the extension was going to expire. Once, restrictions were lifted an oil consumption test was performed. The initial oil change occurred in April 2020. The vehicle was found to consume a significant amount of oil. Holiday automotive of fond du lac, WI performed this test. The engine, without a doubt, was in need of a lower end rebuild. This rebuild was scheduled and completed in December of 2020. Via communication between myself and holiday automotive of fond du lac, gm has agreed to cover half of the costs, but in the end this is still very significant. The work has been completed, but I am now between a rock and a hard place with the vehicle. The extension window that gm provided was narrow to say the least.
Massive oil consumption! in between oil changes constantly needing to put in at the least a 5 quart jug of oil. In turn causing my car to jump at stoplights almost causing me to hit the person in front of me which was caused from low oil. Then it is now causing my engine to misfire. Which includes very poor acceleration which almost caused an accident as I was crossing across another street to almost get hit from the side and another time when turning same thing almost happened. Then when my car is in park it is starting to stall out. Now needing to bring it to a shop once again.
Hello, I bought this 2013 2 weeks ago. Had it checked out by the mechanic at the dealership for an extra charge and they said nothing was wrong with it! fast forward 2 weeks to the day I got the car. . . . Check engine lights came on. . . Oil etc. . . . Took to mechanic and they said there was no oil, I got a $100 oil change and the next day the oil was gone again and has created me a problem now that I can't get to and from. What's going on? how come consumers aren't being made aware of the oil consumption issue before purchasing a vehicle? disgusting!.
Excessive oil consumption and oil level low warning light does not function. Engine will tick and eventually stall out. Must add oil constantly or change the oil more frequently than recommended. No recall has issued and dealer wants thousands of dollars to fix. Basically stuck with a vehicle that you must add oil to every time you fill up with gas.
Severe oil consumption I'm adding oil constantly.
2013 chevy Equinox, 2. 4l 4. 128k miles, massive oil consumption issue. Once a week, engine lifters chatter, and oil needs to be added. This time car died, and garage says call the dealership, they dont want to touch it for under $7k. Is there any action I have to correct this??.
I bought my 2013 chevy Equinox in July of 2019, about a month after buying it my husband checked the oil and the oil wasnt even on the dipstick. After that we kept an eye on it and every week we have to put at least a quart of oil in the vehicle. We have brought it to our shop and have determined that there is excessive oil consumption at the 100,000 mile mark.
Engine is burning excessive amounts of oil, with in a week it burned a minimum of a quart of oil (I drove about 500 miles). A week prior to 8/3/2020 the cam shaft positioning sensor failed due to no oil showing up on the dip stick, vehicle was bought on 7/13/2020 and had an oil change at 145,000 miles.
The make and model I own is now under a special recall for oil consumption. I've tried taking it to the dealer (michael Chevrolet of fresno) and they said that the issue was, normal honey. I then called GMC where I was given a specialist named genevieve who hasn't returned my multiple calls for help on getting the problem fixed. I have taken my car to a third party who has documented their is an oil consumption issue and have taken those results to the dealer and bar. Still GMC is not fixing the issue. My car runs extremely low on oil every 800-1000 miles. Please help!.
Excessive oil consumption. I have to add oil every week and check frequently so that I do not run out of oil when oil is low there is no safety feature that lets you know.
The 2. 4l ecotec engine in chevy terain and Equinox from 2010-2013 has a known issue with the piston rings which causes extreme oil consumption which damages the rest of the engine. Instead of issuing a nationwide recall of these faulty engines, they pushed it over to the nhtsb to issue the recall. They expect owners of these vehicles to pay thousands of dollars in repairs for their known faulty engine. Chevrolet/gm was sued over this by vehicle owners to get reimbursed for their expenses and extended their warranty to 120,000 miles, but vehicle owners weren't notified. They have no plans or way to notify owners who are not the original owners, used car dealers, or people who purchase these vehicles from private sale.
My eco-tec engine burns oil. I have had the engine worked on twice for the same repair resulting in over $3,000 paid out of pocket. I have my oil changed every 3000 miles or less. I also have to add 2-3 quarts of oil on a weekly basis. Additionally, now my vehicle is experiencing a fuel issue where I'm now burning fuel.
The contact owns a 2013 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated the vehicle was using an excessive amount of oil. The vehicle was taken to john jones auto group corydon 1735 gardner ln NW, corydon, in 47112, (812) 722-4146) where an oil consumption test was performed and it was determined that the vehicle used 2 quarts of oil per 1,000 miles driven. The dealer stated that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and opened a case. The approximate failure mileage was 128,000. ## #vpic# 1 - check digit (9th position) does not calculate properly #vpic#.
I had my oil changed at car x , was told there were metal shavings in my oil, I took this vehicle too mauer chev in inver grove heights,mn , they said no there wasnt, I said it burns 1-2 quarts every 1000 miles, mileage was at 119,958, I asked about oil consumption, they did not inform me this vehicle was on recall for oil consumption ! they said there was nothing they could do it was running fine without performing the oil consumtion test , on a recalled vehicle still under 120,000 miles and under the 7 years and 6 month recal by 1 month! how do I procede ? at 126,000 miles the cam shaft sensors failed and the flex pipe cracked because of this consumption recall ! what do I do at this point.
Bought the car used 8 months ago with 55k miles. I have driven it 20k miles, and it burns oil, with the oil light not being illuminated, yet the computer tells me I have a higher % of oil life left. Timing chain is going out, I had to replace the battery, and the stabilitrak system turns off. When starting the vehicle everything appears fine, but between 0-20mph with awd on the break system seems to be failing; then when stabilitrak is turned off the vehicle performs normal. I feel very unsafe driving my car. Most of these issues occured while the vehicle was in motion.
I received contact about faulty parts that affect the rear main seal eventually damaging and blowing it out. The only thing is I was contacted 6 months ago, over 6 years of ownership saying they would recall and replace/repair this. The only thing is my car was disqualified for having over 120k in mileage and I was told I should consider myself lucky it still works. I was driving to my job and had parked my car. When I started my car and started driving it was chugging and I smelled something burning. I pulled over and called my boyfriend to bring oil as the car always has burned oil. It had never done this before. I get it home and plan to take it in the next day. When I wake up and check my car, all of the oil was on my driveway. The sensors never showed anything and I still had 30% oil life and was monitoring. If it weren't for it smelling like something burning, I would have had a seized engine. This is now a $1500 repair that was supposed to have been recalled 3 years ago according to the mechanic.
Engine burns through oil at an alarming rate and oil light does not indicate low or no oil exist. Last oil change was Nov. 21, 2019 and all oil is nearly depleted after less than 2,000 miles of driving in under 3 months. Recall issued for other chevy 2013 Equinox vehicles. VIN lookup tool states this specific car is not included even though the same problem exist.
I have 2013 Chevrolet Equinox. . . I received a letter from gm with a new warranty for excessive oil consumption. I have been having this issue for a year now. So upon receiving the new special coverage adjustment that has stipulations 7 years 6 months or 120,000. . . I received letter in January 2020 took my vehicle to gm dealer and was turned away because of mileage. I am not understanding why gm would put stipulations on engine parts that will damage my engine. Now my issue is that this issue was not just created gm know they are responsible for these vehicles piston wearing out at a certain point but will not cover vehicles that is over 7 years 6 months or 120,000.
Engine is burning oil at an alarming rate. Every 1,000 miles there will be no oil on the dip stick. No warning light has came on stating my oil is low. I could have blown my engine multiple times if I didn't check my oil regularly. This is not safe. I bought this car from a dealership 5 months ago and have already had to get 3 oil changes bc of the excessive amount of oil loss plus have had to add oil in between.
I was driving on the interstate at 75 mph with cruse control. All of a sudden with no notice I heard a loud pop and the car started jerking and vibrating real bad. When I pulled over to the side of the road the inside was full of smoke and smelt like burnt oil. After looking under the car there was alot of oil dripping out and behind me. I was able to get to a gas station that was about a mile away but going about 15 mph and sounded like a riding lawnmower and jerked the whole time.
Excessive oil consumption and loose timing chain. Had timing chain replaced at 93,500 miles. Engine burns oil; is not leaking anywhere. This is a very common problem with this year's engine - 2. 4l ecotech. Chevy needs to recall these! thankfully, caught issues before anything serious happened. Also had crack on boot for one spark plug causing oil to leak into there. Had all spark plugs replaced while replacing timing chain.
Vehicle constantly smells like gas. Also is not telling me when it is low on oil and over consumption of motor oil. I have oil changes done regularly and have almost run completely out of oil 2 times in last 5 months!.
Our Equinox has had a check engine light come on stating the oil level is low. Since we checked TSB's and had the dealer scan it and found excess consumption of oil was do to, camshaft position and timing system. This caused are vehicle to stall out in stationary locations. We asked chevy to fix the issue but no recalls have been volunteered. We've had these issues since purchasing the vehicle March 2019.
Excessive oil consumption with no warning light.
Blown engine. Large oil consumption.
