I am very frustrated with gm right now! there is a known issue with the rear main oil seal on several of the vehicles from 2010-2014 but they are only covering repairs for certain VIN numbers. The seal broke on the engine causing oil to leak out of the vehicle. This left me stranded in freezing cold temperatures. Now I am being told that I am responsible for thousands of dollars to fix an issue that gm knows is their fault. They have a service bulletin out on the issue but are stating that because my car was manufactured at a different plant it is not covered. The service department let me that the hole in the engine was too small causing the seal to break. Had my car suddenly stalled on the highway there would have been a wreck. There was no indication of an oil leak or any issues with the car until the main oil still broke.
My car went through all 5 quarts of oil after one month. I put 2 quarts in to tide over h til I drove directly to the oil change place to have a top off. The engine burned up 2 quarts in a 15 minute (20 mile) drive. When they checked my dip stick was empty. I am having no external leaks and my car keeps dying while driving.
I was driving my 2013 chevy Equinox and it started making a loud diesel truck type of noise on a highway going about 60 mph after around 15 minutes of driving in 1 weather. I made it to my destination and turned it off. It sat for about 4 hours in a parking lot before trying to restart it and it started for less than a minute before dying. I added 3 quarts of oil to it and it sounded slightly better. Then I moved to a different spot to make sure it wasnt leaking oil which it was not before letting it sit for another 4 hours. Later in the day I turned it on to get it home to sit as the dealership couldn't get it in for a week, and when I put it in reverse to check for more oil under it there was about a quart worth of oil that had sprayed all over the ground and under my car. It leaked oil the entire way back to my home about 25 minutes away and left a trail of oil up my driveway. Chevy has recalled the part that is broken on my vehicle and model year but will not repair it due to it not being associated with my VIN.
Motor when I got it they told me they did have it check and there as no recalls on it. I drive it for about a moth an the motor stated to make a ticketing nose check the oil an it was about around a 1,000 miles it needed an oil change when I had it change it look like it had not been change in a long time. An around the same time again I check the oi again it was a low again so I had it change again this time the oil filter look good it to look the firs time, like it had not been change. Then it started skiping and like it did want to stay crack up like it wanted to cut off on,it still doing it it hardiey ever drive it then the transmission started to act up I started to have it not wanting to change gears but then it stop. It does it now sometimes. I"ll check the time and it usually slow than want it supposed to be,,also the locks do not work most off the time when I push the button most of the time an also the car want start sometimes in the morning when I go to crack it up with the key. I been having problems with the air condioner, first the freon went out the first time I use it, also then it started to make nose when I turn around are turn a corner and the freeon would turn a corner then it started to leak inside the carwhen I was steating at a stop signet would srop leaking so much when I would go that just started I finally looked up recalls an seen that all these things were in a recall of may 19 <2019 I bought my car in oct 19,2019. They said they were no recalls , but when I looked it recalls jt had every thing wrong with it that all the recalls was on there an a few etras' they also sued and they do not put my car in the problems areas.
A seal leak on the tvc valve leaks oil big time leaking engine oil. I know of one other vehicle with the same problem. Gm has sent out notices to dealerships etc. . About this. It seems to me that this could be a safety issue if somebody was on the road and this happened.
Cold weather caused the pvc vent line to freeze shut. This freezing causes excess crank case pressure. This pressure blew the rear main seal of the engine. We were driving a short distance when this happened. We caught it before the engine seized from lack of oil but no engine lights or low oil pressure indicators came on. Within seconds of parking the vehicle all of the oil in the engine had drained out. If this had happened on the freeway or at highway speeds the engine would have seized. If this had happened in traffic it would have created a dangerous situation immediately. Gm is aware of this issue with the 2. 4l ecotec motors and has a bulletin out for it. There are no fixes for the issue and if drivers are unaware of it they will blow up their motors. This should be a recall for vehicles that are driven in cold climates. Not just a bulletin that you will only find out after the engine has seized. Attached is a picture of the oil leaking from the rear main seal.
