84,000 miles, transfer case housing cracked. Dealer stated that the side was "blown out" due to internal damage. Car started to lose power, and strong smell of burnt fluid. Drove straight to dealership. New transfer case installed for $2,600. Of course, the 100,000 mile drivetrain warranty was only for 5 year. This car is 7 years.

So first started to use oil more than it should between changes but it would be just 1 quart low it would knock. Than transfer case went out than a wheel bearing went out. I like my car but it's stuff I keep maintained but seems like every time I turn around something goes wrong. Now when you open the door an the keys are in my hand I hear a clicking noise like the computer is one in it also once an awhile you can smell gas not always. It's like it's costing money to fix it on stuff that shouldn't go bad if you maintain it. I talked to four other people who own Equinox an different year rang from 2011 to 2017 with same issues. Why is it we the public have to fix issues when you maintain the car!! I don't want to trade but if it goes down again it's going to be trade for a non chevy car I have had chevy since I started driving 40 plus years my second Equinox never had issues with the first one like I have this one . I changed batter in it thinking it would take care of the clicking but it didn't I almost don't want to drive it to my doctors appointments which are quit often due to will it die on me an leave me stranded on the road.
The transfer case failed while the SUV was in motion on a city street within a week after an oil change / transmission fluid flush & fill service at the dealership. I called the dealership to ask about the part and it is on back order so, this seems to be a common issue with this vehicle.

Last year our transfer case broke. Fortunately the failure was in a parking lot and we avoided a serious accident due to the complete freezing up of the front end. We simply started driving and there was a loud crack and then the steering froze. There was no accident, collision or any off road or on road experience that could have caused this. It was clearly a major part that should never fail this way. The mechanics had never seen before. Others since have suggested we file a complaint and seek compensation because of the nature of the failure. We have written gm and included photos. We attached the repair bills, which totaled $4,466. 63, and are seeking full compensation.

Noise started to come from underneath car, then it wouldn't move. Was towed to dealer who identified problem as transfer case burned out. Car has 80,000 miles, recommended service is at 150,000 miles. Cost $2,000 to replace!.
Transfer case went out at 36595. . They can't understand how it happened.
In the last 6 months we have replaced both the transmission and transfer case, vehicle had less then 150,000 miles on it.
Differential transfer case cracked and spraying oil on engine according to mechanic. Also, according to mechanic this is a known issue regarding this vehicle. Considering the oil is spraying on the engine this should be considered as a recall issue.
I bought a 2010 Equinox new, at 49,000 miles the transfer case went out of it and now 6 months later at 55,000 miles the transmission went out it was the 3-5 revervse wave plate we were told that shattered. And since it was out of warranty of course gm would not honor to get this plate fixed even though it only had 55,000 miles on it. We were told these plates when they were harden they were harden to hard and so they shatter. This is defiantly a gm issue and they should repair these at no cost but they won't admit there is a problem. This transmission just happened all at once I put it in gear and there it went out. If gm is going to build a throw away car at 50,000 miles then they should sell it as a throw away car. They know they have transmission problems but they keep socking the consumer for costly repairs because all they can say is it's out of warranty. You would think your car would last more than 55,000 miles.

The control module failed and resulted in headlight gone at ~50k miles. The transfer case went bad and the car did not move at all at 64k miles. Can not believe the powertrain got problem just after the warranty expired.
