Transmission Not Engage Problems of Chevrolet Equinox

When accelerating it will create a hard shift or not fully engage into 2nd or 3rd gear. Also, when auto stop/start engages it jolts the car when stopped.

When parking the car in the parking lot, I turned the car off with my foot on the brake, didn't notice I had not put car in park and when I took my foot off the brake it rolled backwards. I quickly put my foot on the brake and put the car in park. Thankfully I was in an area where no one was behind me. I was shocked that the transmission disengages when the engine is turned off. I was told by the dealer that this is a normal. After looking at recalls on previous models, I saw a recall for a similar problem on some 2015-2017 Chevrolet vehicles. When it first happened I thought I imagined it. So I tried it yesterday in the driveway and sure enough if the car isn't in park and you turn the engine off the car will roll.

The contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Equinox. While driving 45 mph, the shifter did not engage and the vehicle became inoperable. The failure occurred without warning. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission fractured and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. 2011 chevy Equinox. Consumer writes in regards to automatic transmission failure. The consumer stated on two occasion, the automatic transmission failed to re-engage while making a slow rolling turn from a center turning lane into a driveway. In both situation, the engine continued to operate normally, but the transmission did not engage leaving the vehicle stalled in the path of oncoming traffic. In each situation, the vehicle need to be placed in park, shut of and then re-started in order for the vehicle to move out of the traffic lane. The first incident happened in September 2012 and the second occurrence happened on February 6, 2013. The dealer examined and tested the vehicle and found no problem.

Tl-the contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated while driving 10 mph and going down a steep hill the gear will not engage. When the gear will not shift he has to stomp on the brakes very hard and then it will shift. The gear will shift from first to third but not low to slow the vehicle down. The transmission was automatic. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated they cannot duplicate the problem. They have reset the computer but the failure continues to occur. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 27,000. Mw.

The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Equinox. The vehicle was parked with both front tires on a patch of ice. The tires rolled on the ice. The dealer informed the contact that this was normal due to the characteristics of an all wheel drive. The dealer also told the contact that he should just apply the emergency brakes. Updated 2/27/2007 - the consumer feels that the vehicles should not move at all while in park. The consumer feels that the locking pin in the transmission may not be engaging properly.
