Wiring Problems of Chevrolet Equinox

Bought the car in Dec 2018. Just got the oil changed and mechanic said the seals were leaking really bad. Oil was all underneath my car. Also my drivers side brake light kept going out and melting the wiring. Then my power seats stopped working. Bottom line is I was driving down the interstate with my grandkids and my air went out battery light came on and all other lights abs, etc. I could hardly steer the car off the road.

The contact owns a 2019 Chevrolet Equinox. While driving 30 mph, the vehicle stalled and restarted after forty minutes. Afterwards, the speed would not exceed 5 mph and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to Chevrolet of homewood (18033 halsted st, homewood, IL 60430, (708) 251-4692) where it was diagnosed that an unknown wire was burned out. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 5,938.

Windshield was not properly sealed from the manufacture. While driving on the interstate, seats and mirrors randomly moved. At one point the seat was so close to the steering wheel, causing husband's stomach to touch the wheel. Thus causing the inability to turn and control the steering of vehicle. Mirrors moved randomly out of position, causing inability to see blind spots while driving on the interstate. I purchased this car on 5-15. This first incident occurred 5-24. The second incident happened 6-10 again while driving. The rain inside the unsealed windshield caused corrosion on electrical wiring and connections. There is corrosion also inside the body. This brand new vehicle is rusting from the inside out. There will always be issues with this car either electrical or body.

May 2016, had issue with my 2014 Equinox involving the accelerometer pedal & sensor due to faulty wiring. My vehicle was just less than 2 years old with 62k miles at the time. We were driving down the highway, when the malfunction occurred and sent the vehicle into reduced engine power mode. When this happened the vehicle started to quickly lose speed down as it happened just prior to going up a hill. Had to try and get vehicle off to shoulder of highway, acceleration pedal was completely inoperable during this time. Call was placed to gm regarding this issue and my concerns that it could have lead to a crash, injury or worse. Gm had no interest in covering this problem under any warranty and did not seem concerned at all with the issue or my concerns that the problem could have lead to a crash, injury or worse. In the end I was left with a $475 repair charge to replace an $80 part by the gm dealership.

Had my car fixed for the oil consumption issue and a week later I lost power and the car shut off while driving almost causing an accident with my children in the car. Dealership denied any thing wrong with the car. . . . After having it towed back to them, they found the throttle body connectors were no good and need a new wiring kit to fix. There needs to be a recall on this because this could cause a serious accident, almost happened to me! please recall the 2011 Equinox as a whole, you obviously didn't build this car correctly.

The contact owns a 2009 Chevrolet Equinox. While driving 50 mph and attempting to roll the window down, the switch would not work. The contact made several unsuccessful attempts. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the switch needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was checked again and the contact was informed that if there were any issues with the wiring, the contact would be liable for the repairs. Our vehicle's radio began to not shut off after the driver side door was opened, and the keys were out of the ignition. We brought it to the dealership and was convinced that it was either the door switch or the radio. Having a major guard protection plan, the radio wasn't to be covered and the door switch would. I chose not to have the problem fixed thinking that we'd continue to shut the radio off. It wasn't until the driver side power window stopped working and I replaced the motor (to no avail) and did some research online did I find that similar owners had the same symptoms. I eventually researched and found that the electrical pathway from the car body to the door caused the wires inside to stretch, crack, and break. The 2 wires that were broken were the door sensor wire and the power window wire. Taking it back to parkway Chevrolet to have them research this and diagnose, their remedy was to have the wires re-saulder. I would like for the wiring harness be replaced. Looks and seems like there's a major electrical issue with this vehicle. There should be a recall for the malfunction.

Having problems with my driver side door electric window and door locks not functioning properly or not at all. I have someknowledge of electrical systems so I started troubleshooting the problem. After 5 minutes I found the source of the problem to be completely broken wires that are part of the wiring harness right before it goes through the driver side door and protected by a rubber boot/sleeve . Almost all wires that are part of the wiring harness at this location were either broken as I mentioned or the insulation was so bridle and cracked that the copper wire strands were exposed. This is in a tight spot and would be hard to splice. I took a picture to support what I am writing and I've attached it. I believe this is an electrical fire hazard if the exposed wires ever come in contact with chassis ground.

In July of this year, it was a 100 degree day in charleston, and my wife had our 2 years old daughter in her car seat. My wife had the airconditioning on, and the car running, and she checked the mail, for some reason, the locks on the doors engaged, and my daughter was locked in the car. I immediatley called the dealer, and I brought the car in for service. They had my vehicle for over a week. They returned the vehicle to me and informed me that they had redone all the wiring and that it should all be fixed, and it wouldnt happen again. Then as fate would have it, our rear view camera started going in and out randomly, but we didnt think anything of it, then sure enough, once again in September, I had my daughter out to lunch, I placed her in her seat, strapped her in, and laid the keys down next to her, the doors were all unlocked, I closed the back door, went to open the front door, and the locks engaged once again. This time the ac was not running. My wife had a key but was about 45 min away. This time, the baby was in there for over half an hour, and was a hysterical mess. I immediatley called the dealer again, obviously much more upset this time, and asked them to explain what was going on. They had no answer and asked me to bring it in again. I brought the vehicle in, they had it for over 2 weeks and informed me that they had reset everything to factory specs, and given me 2 new key fobs, as they thought the fobs may have been causing the issue. I got the car back and within an hour, of getting the car back, the camera went out on the dashboard. I called the sales manager again, and he came and picked the vehicle up. The only thing we have been told and I quote is "we are chasing a gremlin in the wiring system", they cant figure out what it is, they want to put me in a new 2015. Gm corporate cannot offer any resolution outside of a new key fob.

The driver side power window stopped functioning. Was unable to open the window with the control. It was discovered that if the door was opened the control functioned. I took this vehicle to the blaise alexander dealership in muncy, PA for repairs. I was told that the wire that controlled this function was "crimped" and needed to be repaired. I was also told that the other wires (6 in all) were going to fail eventually. After searching the web for like problems I determined that this is not an isolated incident. My concerns are if this wiring fails and the window doesn't open or the power door lock doesn't function in case of an accident the drivers ability to escape the vehicle will be compromised. If the should occur and there is a fire or other issue it could result in injury or more.

Driver side door and driver side window stopped operating at the same time. Mechanic advised the wiring harness inside the door had brittle wires and the door harness needed to be replaced. Meechanic showed me the part; two broken wires and four other badly frayed.

Problems with power windows and door speakers. Had read about issues with the wiring harness between the door and the frame. I took the rubber boot off to find 4 broken wires. I would imagine the other doors are similar. Havent ckd them as of yet. I have pictures if you like.

I have had issues with my blower motor ever since I purchased this vehicle brand new - every time I take it in it into a certified chevy dealership the issues is not happening by the time I get there they just tell me "well there is nothing we can do if the issue is not happening" it is the middle of summer and not having air for the first few minutes is horrible, by the time I get close to the dealership it starts working again so not only am I wasting gas trying to get to the dealership but I'm hot or cold while trying to do it. . . I have never been so frustrated with a vehicle as I am with this one. . . I literally have to hit a deep pothole for it kick in which makes me think it is an electrical issue but every time I try to get them to do it they just tell be well there will be a fee for diagnosing it even though I have been telling then since 2012 that this issue has been happening sporadically. Even tried to contact gm about it and they said well there isn't much we can do without the issue happening when you get there. . . That is completely unacceptable at minimum the blower motor should have been replaced if they did not find any issues in the wiring but they refuse to narrow down the issue. The issue normally happens when I first start the car but I have noticed it sometimes struggles while driving as well. . . So the issue is just getting worse. On top of that - every time I took it in to the dealership they never noted that I had complained about the issue since back in 2012 and finally I made them enter it into the system prior to my manufacturer warranty expiring so I have paper proof of the issue happening before it expired when it would be fully covered.

Right front door wiring harness in hinge area (flex point). Wires broken causing door locks, power windows and power mirrors to be inoperable.

The contact stated a week later that all the electronic functions on the front driver side door would not function. We have a 2006 Chevrolet Equinox that has continuously had an electrical short in the wiring harness that deactivates the gas pedal accelorator. When it happens you can only move the vehicle with the pedal floored at 1 mile per hour which is very dangerous when you are on a high speed higway with no other cars around as you can not move out of the way of high speed vehicles that may be approaching. We have had it into the dealer three times and it continues to happen again intermittently as to the point we feel it is unsafe to drive. We have filed a complaint with chevy and they refuse to take any responsibility. We are afraid to take it on vacation as we could be stranded.

The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact started her vehicle and all of the warning lights illuminated on the instrument panel. She then tried to move the steering wheel and it was locked. The contact was able to drive the vehicle to the dealer and they stated that they could not duplicate the failure. The contact started the vehicle a few months later and experienced the identical failure when she started the vehicle. The contact turned the vehicle off and back on and the steering failed to reset and function properly. The contact was driving 25 mph when she heard a clicking sound and after driving approximately 5 to 6 miles the power steering began to function. The VIN was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 46000. The current mileage was 48000. Updated 05/10/10 the consumer stated the problem with the electric power steering has been fixed. The problem was determined to be a loose ground wire. Updated 05/12/10.

The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that the vehicle would drive into safe mode and slow down to 10 mph. The traction light, a green engine and an orange engine light illuminated causing the vehicle to decrease in speed. The failure continued to occur intermittently. The failure also occurred while driving through a car wash. The dealer thought that the failure was caused by water making contact with the wiring harness, but that repair did not work. The dealer stated that they would continue working on the failure, but they do not know what caused it to occur. The failure mileage was 67000 and the current mileage was 78000.

The drivers side window would not operate up or down. Sometimes the widow would go up or down on its own, without operating the switch. The wiring harness in the door was found to be defective. The wires were broken and exposed at the hinge joint. The electrical system was shorting out.

Vehicle fire. Cell phone charger was plugged into the front auxiliary power outlet. 2-3 minutes later smoke was noticed, and fire erupted from the center console where the power outlet is located. Vehicle was immediately pulled off the road and phone charger was unplugged, burning the tip of one finger. Vehicle was exited and 911 was called. Fire dept. Arrived and extinguished the fire. Phone charger and phone are intact and were not burned or damaged in any way, I in fact was still using them in our other vehicle until requested not to, by my insurance company, and to hold them for further investigation. After the fire, the fuse for the power outlet was checked and had blown out. Don't know yet what caused the fire. It certainly appears the wiring shorted out? vehicle was a total loss.

I have a 2005 chevy Equinox that has experienced multiple electrical problems. First I had ignition problems, air conditioner problems, battery being drained without cause, window control and so forth. Each time I took it to the dealer for repairs and each time a repair was made. Only after the warranty was out did I discover by accident that the problems were caused by a faulty wiring harness. The main dash wiring harness located in the left floor panel on the driver's side has signs of melting, and shorts with the slightest movement. The shortage causes the air conditioner to stop blowing and will cause the engine to completely die out. I have had the car evaluated by two mechanics who both stated, without knowing someone else had looked at it, that the car is a fire hazard and should be repaired immediately. I also spoke with a local body shop that has repaired at least one Equinox that burned due to this same wiring harness. The repairs are currently being made at a cost of $4,000. 00. I believe that this is a more wide spread problem than has been reported and hope that others with similar problems will speak out as general motors is unwilling to investigate this. I encourage new car buyers to beware of this company, as I have been sorely disappointed with their product and service. The consumer also stated there was a roaring noise coming from the rear of the vehicle. She later found out there was a problem with differential after being told there was nothing in the rear to cause a noise. Updated 12/04/08.

1. 6 months after purchased third taillight shorted out didn't know had no brake lights. Took to dealer 7 times after wiring harness, third taillight replaced because spoiler cracked, hatch unable to open. Dealer moved hatch hinges and spoiler kept cracking. Still having third taillight no brake light problem is with wiring faulty. Taillights all leak causing wiring short in fuses. Other issue is first break service abs sensor stayed on break pedal pulsated for 2 yrs 2 dealers 1 mechanic replaced abs sensor 3x didn't fix ended up paying for new front wheel hub also caused 3 accidents could not stop because of it. Mileage is 68700 rec 1 recall for heater. Where are rest?.

Everytime that I take my car in for a quick car wash or if it rains really hard (in florida it does). . . Water leaks through the lights in the ceiling, the back hatch, and through the floor boards. My check engine light comes on and the dealer tells me that it is water corrosion from the water leaking through the electrical wiring harness. This causes my car to run, even though I have my pedal to the floor, very slow. I can't go past 10mph. I am afraid of electrical fire. I can hardly turn a corner. . . I am afraid of a car accident. My car is only 2 years old now. . . 4/2008 and this has happened a 3rd time. My battery has already had to be replaced and my radio replaced twice because of the "cd changer error". Now I can only imagine, with all of the water that keeps coming in, what condition my car will be in a few months from now. Electrical problems, bad smell, corroding floor boards and who knows what else.

The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Equinox. Ever since the vehicle was purchased, the contact heard a ticking sound in the engine compartment. He stated that the vehicle had poor fuel mileage. The contact also had to jump from the vehicle because the serpentine belt caught a wire that was not in a wiring harness as it should have been. The contact also experienced stabilatrac failure on two separate occasions, which caused the power steering to fail. He has been injured twice because the rear hatch door struts failed and struck him in the head. The tires that came on the vehicle were severely worn and the turn signals would not shut off. The two front doors and the rear hatch door cracks and makes squeaking noises. Some repairs have been made; however, the rear hatch needs to be repaired along with the ticking sound in the engine. The failure mileage was 170 and current mileage was 26,000.

I took my 06' chevy. Equinox lt into the shop two months after I purchased the vehicle. I had drove my car down the street and when I got ready to come home. I put the car in reverse and it didn't move all. I had my car towed to todey Chevrolet of oxnard, CA and about 3 days later they had called me to tell me that they had to replace the whole computer in my car. That there had been water leaking on the side psgr. Door. The leak was so extreme that all the wiring leading to the computer was rusted. I had my car returned to me after about 2 weeks. Water still leaks in my car but, not as severely.
