1 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 05/24/2018

While driving, the vehicle suddenly loses all power while in motion on city streets and stalls. On occasion, the vehicle will stall while at a stop light during the daily drive. Sometimes, the car can restart normally, sometimes the restart is rough and the car shakes, and sometimes the car will not start immediately (one occasion required a wait time of approximately 30 minutes). The vehicle has been maintained over the years and when it runs, it runs fine. Once the intermittent stalling began, the vehicle was taken to two different shops, neither of which could diagnose the problem (the vehicle did not stall while in park, engine running, vehicle not in motion). Error codes did indicate that the map sensor should be replaced, and it was replaced, but the stalling problem persists. The stalling problem occurred once in 2017, and has become more frequent in 2018, occurring at least once per day. The stall may occur in the first few minutes of driving, or at 15 minutes into the drive, or at 45 minutes into the drive: the timing of the stall and the characteristics of the stall being inconsistent. There is no suggestive pattern. As it stands today, the car is unsafe to drive, and the repair to return the vehicle to safe operation is unknown.

The contact had to make several attempts to get the vehicle to restart. The contact was included in NHTSA campaign number: 14v400000 (electrical system) but did not receive notification. The contact stated that while at a stop light and upon acceleration the rpms and pressure went low, the vehicle stalled and then an engine fire erupted. The contact was able to exit the vehicle. The fire department extinguished the flames. A fire report was provided at the time of the incident and a police report was not filed. The vehicle was towed to the contacts residence and then towed to a yard. The vehicle was destroyed due to the failure and was not diagnosed to determine how the failure happened. The contact recently received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 15v701000 (engine and engine cooling) and was unable to receive the recall repair due to the failure happening before the vehicle was included and notified of the recall. 7 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 11/28/2011

While driving this car it would just stall or die as if someone had reached over and shut the car off and would not start for a few days. I have brought this car to two mechanics and neither were able to stop the problem but told me that different parts were the culprit, so 800 dollars later I have replaced the fuel filter, fuel pump, crank shaft position sensor, mass air flow sensor, replaced the battery, tested the alternator, tested the fuel injectors both hot and cold, tested the ignition module and still the car died leaving my child and I stranded on the side of the freeway in cold temperatures. I then called a gm dealership whom said another 120. 00 just to look at it and said they couldnt find the problem . This is outragous!.

10 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2009

My car (a 2000 Chevrolet Impala, 3. 8l v6 engine) repeatedly died as I was driving or stalled. It became a huge safety issue, especially when I would be driving at high speeds on the freeway with nowhere to pull over. I took it in, but diagnostics showed nothing. I kept replacing parts, but to no avail. I felt unsafe driving anywhere and even got a bike so I wouldn't be facing near-death experiences every time I drove. Eventually I found a message board that suggested replacing the crankshaft position sensor. I just did and am hoping it works. Something needs to be done about this though, it's crazy to have to go years with a faulty car and no one can find a fix for it.

11 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 07/08/2008

Car stall while driving down freeway. At red light or any other place or time. When I say it stalls, I mean it dies & you have to restart it . It hasn't caused a crash or damage yet, but it could at any time. I looked on the internet and other people have replaced several different components at great expense and hasn't helped.

12 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 11/29/2004

I filed this same complaint last year at the same time. The car operated fine for exactly one whole year after dealership replaced the fuel regulator. The failure is that the vehicle stalls while driving. When this occurs there is a total loss of power and control of the car. I am unable to steer, stop, everything locks up. The consequences of driving a car like this is me losing my life. On 11/29/04 is when the problem recurred. Then on 11/30 as I was driving to work it stalled with a public transportation bus on my tail, the car loss power. The bus driver was honking his horn and flashing his lights but showed little signs of slowing down for a car that was stalled out. I feel these vehicles with this problem should be totally recalled until the manufacturer can determine what is causing the problem. I am willing to allow them to troubleshoot my car to every extent. It has been at the dealership for almost 2 weeks and all they can say is to continue driving the car until it gets worse. That is definitely not an option as I did last year and they still were not able to fix the car. These cars are going to cause someone to lose their life if they haven't already and something needs to be done about it a. S. A. P. I refuse to pick up my car from the dealer until they have a fix, I also refuse to make another payment on the car until it is in working condition. I feel that either this car will explode on me the next time I attempt to crank it or I am going to be killed when it stalls while I am driving. My life is way more valuable than this car will ever be worth to anyone. I didn't get much assistance from you last year when I filed this complaint so I am hoping you have a new insight on the seriousness this car poses.

Dealer has run check twice and cannot find source of hesitation - does not happen everyday and is not associated with any certain weather conditions, length of warm-up time, etc. Usually occurs within first 200 feet after putting vehicle into drive - with foot on gas pedal, car acts as if it's going to stall and then kicks back into gear - has been happening since the car was purchased in oct. 1999. The car also rolls backwards on inclines unless foot is on brake or gas pedal - rolls back even during the time it takes to move your foot from the brake to the gas (need to drive with two feet on hills that you stop on) - have not notified dealer of this problem yet - didn't realize it was a problem until I saw the other complaints - will notify dealer on next visit.
