Since then I discovered that the NHTSA had taken back the remedy due to it's failure to correct engine compartment fires. . . . (complete complaint continued in attachment).

Went to start car and intake blew up, causing a large fire and pieces of the burning plastic hit my son which was standing by car. The hood was up at the time and we did get the fire out. It appears this was a fuel regulator issue and I do not show it as being due for my car. It must of been done already but this issue still happens. This is very dangerous and should not happen. I was lucky it was not worse.

Took to felix chevy and they half assed performed recall fixture. Said they did to best of ability now I had a fire and car was doing same thing after I took it to them.
Sometimes when car is placed in park the key will not turn to off it just stays in acc you have to put the car in drive again and then try to place it in park again. Another problem I am having now is the key will not turn when placed in ignition and the brake pedal can not be pushed and the car can not move out of park so my car is stuck on a lot.

Date complaint filed: 03/15/2011 component(s): vehicle speed control date of incident: 03/11/2011 NHTSA id number: 10390238 every once in a while my 2000 Impala with a 3400cc v6 would maintain 50mph with my foot off the gas! the cause is an intermittent malfunction of the tps sensor. It took my Impala 3 years to throw a code and after I replaced the tps, the car's throttle settled down.
I was pulling out of a parking lot and my vehicle suddenly shut off making me loose steering control and almost causing a bad accident. I managed to get the car to a stop and I restarted the ignition. I pulled off and sat in a lot for a few minutes. The next day I had the same problem while merging onto a main highway.
I have a 2000 chevy Impala that I just bought, when I'm driving it has a burning small to it and it dropping oilfrom some where. Abd it runs hot, I have to turn the heat on so the temperature gauge will go down.
I have had this car since it was new. In 2008 it died on my wife, luckly she was able to pull over to the side of the road. To make a long story short she has never drove it since. I have spent about a $1000 bucks trying to find out what is going on. It will start up after you get stoped and put it in park. Ihave took it to the chev dealer and left it with them and it never acts up so they are not any help. You never know when it is going to die on you so you must always drive in the right lane so you can pull over. You loose power stering and power brakes. I have called gm and ask them about it but they just say there is not a recall on my car. After watching tv about all the gm cars that are diying I think my car is doing the same thing. I think it is the key switch. Ilike the old car and would like to keep it but I'am about scard to drive it . I am 68 years old now and don't have sa much get up and go as I once had.
Car was parked in a parking garage and burst into flames.
Saw recent gm recall for chevy cobalt, saturns, etc. Regarding engine dying unexpectedly while driving on the road (bad ignition switch). My Impala has the same symptom and if you search the internet for "why does Impala die while driving" it is a common problem for this model. My Impala will be running smooth, speed from 30 to 60, but slowing down for any reason, sometimes the engine just dies. This is especially dangerous when slowing down for a turn. All of a sudden no power steering and limited brakes. This is a very dangerous situation, I don't want to drive the car. There is no indication like rough engine or the car stumbling from lack of gas, it just quietly dies. If this ignition switch is the cause, this recall should be expanded to include Impala's at least. I called the local Chevrolet dealer and they basically said, well it's a 14 year old car. Not the point! my older cars don't do this. Search the internet, people have tried many things but the problem seems to persist. Chevrolet has to know what the problem is.
I will be driving down the stree/highway and the car will just cut off and die. This has happened several times and ive contacted gm motors and they claim they haven't heard of this problem. I look online to see if I can figure the issue out and came across several other Impala owners that are experiencing the same issues. Ive taken my car to the shop numerous times to have it fixed and the problem isn't being solved!! this is a very serious issue that could cause harm to me and my family and other drivers.
I w also as driving into a shopping plaza and my steering wheel locked and my car steered across the entrance after a couple of minutes it started back up. I am so nervous because the steering wheel locked, also every now and then it just wont start up and then all of a sudden it will. The gas gauge doesn't work either so you cant judge the gas never received any recall notices I have a 2000 chevy Impala.
Hit a pot hole on the highway. Key fell out of the ignition, was able to retrieve the key off the floor and restart the car while driving. I think that my knee may have hit the key knocking it into the accessories position resulting in the key falling out of the ignition. I just left moran Chevrolet in clinton township, mi to have the ignition key recall fix. I notice the key can still be removed in the accessories position. In my opinion all the fix did for gm recall 14350 was add more weight to my key by putting a larger, heavier head on my key. Nhtsa campaign number: 14v400000.
I purchased my brother-in-law's car in March. In August, while I was parked outside a friend's home, the car caught fire. No one was in the car and the keys were with me. After online investigation, we found that the car had a recall on it in 2009. My brother-in-law was never notified so neither were we. Our first step was to contact gm who said there was nothing they planned on doing about this. We contacted the bbb who also contacted gm. Gm then called us and again said there was nothing they could do. I feel there is plenty they can do. What about if my daughter and I had been in the car? how about if I had needed time off from work? I had to purchase another vehicle I was not prepared to purchase. We have the recall information, pictures from the fire, and a letter from gm if you are interested. I feel there must be some sort of compensation for this. The recall was because of their mess up in the factory and they failed to notify my brother-in-law. If gm had done what they were supposed to do, the fire would never have happened.

I had drove my car about 10 miles, park my car and went inside the waterpark. They call for the person driving the chevy Impala to come up top,. I was the told my car was smoking, I proceeding out the door and their were flames coming out from under my hood. I went back in and told them to call the fire department. . 2000 Chevrolet Impala 4 door with 3. 8 v6 engine caught fire while driving and I was stuck inside due to all electrical going down. Police arrived within minutes of me calling 911 from car. I was just exiting the car 3 minutes after calling them. Doors were locked and car was a blaze and also smoke filled interior. People were all around vehicle as I was trying to exit. I now have a severe cough and lung pains due to plastics burning and now I am taking advair inhaler. The car gave no warning at all as it just burst into flames. The doors and all windows locked. A city employee came running with an extinguisher to try break windows as I was inside, I exited as the police came to car and he blocked the road to traffic with his cruiser. The fire dept arrived shortly after he did. I was all black with an oily substance and soot as well as coughing lots. I am awaiting an appointment with lung specialist as this cough will not subside and it is awful as I can't talk or exhale without gasping for air and coughing all the time.

Our 2000 Chevrolet Impala was left in an apartment behind my children's' apartment in omaha, nebraska. When they returned from christmas break, the battery was down and it was cold outside. They tried to jump start the car using jumper cables from another vehicle next to it. My daughter was in front of the car to remove the jumper cables after it started. When my son tried to crank the engine, it exploded all over the parking lot, showering my daughter with bits and pieces of the plastic top of the engine. My daughter was shaken up but not hospitalized and her confidence in starting gm autos is "gone. " gm claims that they are not responsible because there is 120,000 miles on the vehicle at the time of the explosion and will not provide any safety advice on starting the vehicle in the future. They also contend that the children were responsible for blowing up the car by starting it with jumper cables, although the dealer acknowledges that it was started in accordance with the owners manual. There seem to be unresolved safety issues here that gm does not want to acknowledge or admit to.
The consumer stated while stopping at a red light a strange odor entered the vehicle followed by a loss of power steering. He managed to drive the vehicle to the dealer, where the dealer determined that vehicle was leaking power steering fluid. The dealer replaced the power steering fluid hose at the consumer expense. Consume stated vehicle was parked for one week, and upon getting back from vacation, consumer started the vehicle, and it blew up. Everything under the hood was broken in little pieces. Contacted the dealer. The vehicle was supposedly fixed.
My vehicle has been serviced at fairway on several occasions, which included a similar problem over a year ago that was still under warranty. This was for a cracked coolant container after I noticed the low coolant light came on my message center. This same problem is what brought me in for my recent visit. I wanted to find out why this light was coming on again. This time, the answer was $1012. 70. Coincidentally, this is 3 months after my warranty expired.
