Car will not start sometimes. Battery is fine. Lights work, locks work, etc. Battery was replaced twice before realized it was not battery. Have to wait 10 minutes and then try again to start car. Usually starts after 10 minute wait. If not, have to wait another 10 minutes. Security light comes on for no reason at times and then goes off.
At random times, the car will not start when the ignition is turned. There is no response from motor at all. The security light will flash on the information center display when this happens. After waiting 10-20 minutes the car will start. The first incident occurred about 1 year ago and has been occurring at random times ever since. Vehicle was taken to a gm dealer service department after the first time it occurred and they were unable to diagnose the problem. Since then I have noticed that the fan for the hvac system will not work at times and the security light and other lights will appear on the information center display at random times.
Several times I would go to start my car and the security light would be on in the message center. The car would not start. It did nothing like a dead battery. I would wait about 15 minutes and try again. Sometimes it would start sometimes it wouldn't. It was doing this 2 or 3 times a week. On sept. 9, 2006 I came out from shopping and it wouldn't start. I waited for 15 minutes and still nothing. I did this for an hour. Then I called a friend to come and get me. I went back to my car which is a 2002 Impala, the next day, still nothing. The next day, still nothing. I called a tow truck to the dealer to get it fixed. Also my power door locks had quit at the same time. I was told I had to give them $100. 00 just to look at it. 3 hours later they called and said that I could pick up my car. Total cost towing $59. 00, dealer $496. 95. I am disabled and only get $600. 00 a month from disability. Now I have no money for my living expenses for the month but the car is still doing the same thing. On the 1st of oct. I went out to start my car and guess what it won't start. Since this was a Sunday I called the dealer on Monday morning to tell them that it was not fixed . It was still doing the exact same thing that it was before they supposedly fixed it. By the way when they supposedly fix it they replaced the bmc. Now they want another $100. 00 to look at it again. The part was guaranteed but not labor, I could not afford another bill like the last one, I just hope it starts when I go to the dr. It starts only when it wants to. My husband just had brain surgery, I have had 5 surgeries on my spine, I need a car that I can depend on to start. Never had a problem with it. I will hold Chevrolet responsible if any thing happens to my husband or my self because the car won't start. After I took the car to the dealer I came home, looked on the internet under Chevrolet Impala 2002 and found 100's of service bulletins on the very same problem. Why isn't any thing being done about this.
The contact owns a 2002 chevy Impala. The contact stated that the vehicle would not start when the security light illuminated. In addition, the failure occurred intermittently the last three years. Parked and turned off car, gauges, locks and lights went crazy. Car would not restart and electrical system continued to go crazy eventually the battery exploded and everything turned off. Dealership determined it was the bcm. 6 years later bcm is bad again.
When getting into my car I go to start my car and nothing happens. I have to wait for 10 minutes before it will start. The security lights comes on when driving down the road. It could cause a serious accident if someone did not know what to do. No one can figure out what the problem is when the car will not start and the security light is on. It is a manufacturing defect in the security system. There are several people that have the same issues with this. Some people have to wait 30 minutes before their car will start. This could put a woman in a serious situation. We need to find out what is the problem and I hope someone can help.
2002 chevy Impala the security light goes on when driving. After a short period of time when driving this way the car will not start after being turned off. A friend who has a newer Impala has had secuirty light go on while driving and the engine totally shut down . Very serious implications could arrive if on highway or bridge and car dies.
Car would not start. Security light came on and it would not start. This has happened at least 10 times a year since 2004. The wiring to the light system melted at the ignition switch in one incident. I continually have to reset the security system to override the pass lock system errors. The car continues to fail with pas lock security issues. I have researched this on Chevrolet Impalas, pontiac and other gm models. The solutions are vague and inconsistent. I took my car to the Chevrolet dealer in san diego and they could not figure out what was wrong and their suggestion was to replace a bunch of expensive parts with no guarantee that this would fix the security lock start issue. They said this was a very common problem and they had no solution for the cause. They told me the best thing to do was to trade it in on a new car or sell it to some unsuspecting person to deal with.
The contact owns a 2002 Chevrolet Impala. The contact stated that the vehicle would not start. The dealer changed the bcm module; however, the failure continued to occur. The dealer then replaced the bcm module again. Approximately six months later the failure occurred again. As a result, the power windows were inoperable. The mechanic stated that an electrical short caused the failure. They replaced the wires however approximately one month later the failure occurred again. As of April 14, 2008, the dealer had not repaired the vehicle. The failure mileage was 10,000 and current mileage was 121,000.
