2 Dashboard Failed problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2011

Instrument cluster failing. - while driving home from work, my instrument cluster failed. Started jumping around for a min until it finally stuck. Now it has progressly gotten to the point where it never has the correct mph. Sometimes sticking 20 - 30 mph while in park. Other times staying at 0least while on the interstate. Very unsafe. Should ne a recall, after calling the dealer and being quoted nearly 600. 00 to repair. After this many complaints chevy needs to fix this problem. No more american cars for me thanks.

6 Dashboard Failed problem

Failure Date: 02/19/2010

I own a 2004 chevy Impala and the instrument cluster has failed. My speedometer does not work and the temperature gauge shows that my car is running hot even though it is not. Apparently this is a common issue with gm and GMC vehicles. In 2007 a class action lawsuit was filed against his company in regards to their trucks with failed instrument clusters. The plaintiffs did win and there was a recall implemented. These are websites that I found that pertain to failure in the instrument cluster in 2004 chevy Impalas. . Read more...

7 Dashboard Failed problem

Failure Date: 12/27/2009

Now at 117,000 kms. Or past my five year warranty. Since 88,000kms. Have complained several times about temp gauge very out of whack on highway trips, lead me to believe severely overheated, but no message from car, just gauge going almost 90 degrees past "danger point " of gauge. In last two years temp gauge replaced three times. Obviously not the problem. Returns to normal function in city or short haul driving. Stop frequently, and under hood check shows no signs of overheating. Conclusion- electrical, sensor, problem and dealer keeps coming up with costly new equipment fixes which do not work. Now they want to blame a water pump leak and gaskets, although reservoir carefully watched by me. No leaks there. Have never had to add fluid, although I keep it always in car-that is the dexcool-water mix. Never down lower than recommended, and the dealer wants to give me a new water pump and take 1000-1200 out of my pocket. They have never mentioned the temp sensor, or any other fix. Travel on mountain highways 3 times per year, gauge now gone way over the top 6-8 times. Always stop. No sign ever of hose, radiator, water, lowered reservoir, or computer messages as per manual. Have read of numerous similar problems of this make and model, the 04 chevy Impala LS, always gauges. In my case I will not approve another temp gauge "fix" and now speedometer is acting up as well, just like other drivers reported.

8 Dashboard Failed problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2009

The instruments in my 2004 Chevrolet Impala stopped working. First the fuel gauge failed, then the temperature gauge failed, now the speedometer has failed. Since the speedometer does not read correctly, I feel it is a safety concern and should be a covered repair under a recall.

9 Dashboard Failed problem

Failure Date: 03/06/2009

04 Impala LS speedometer stopped working around 30000 miles all gauges fail to work never know how fast I am going could be a potentially dangerous situation. Speedometer gets stuck at various places does not move while driving. As well as the temp gauge have not gotten it fixed as of yet. Why is there not a recall?.

10 Dashboard Failed problem

Failure Date: 02/28/2009

2004 Chevrolet Impala dashboard cluster failure. The instrumentation provides inaccurate data, speed, fuel and temperature gauges are not accurate. Speed shows more than 100 mph standing still. Car has 44,000 miles and no longer under warranty service.

11 Dashboard Failed problem

Failure Date: 11/07/2008

I have a 2004 Chevrolet Impala and the cluster has gone out on it, similar chevy trucks and SUV's have had the exact same issue, but the dealer told me that the cars aren't covered under recall. This is not a problem that I have had go out on any car and it is very odd that the same manufacturer is having the same problems with other vehicles.

12 Dashboard Failed problem

Failure Date: 10/25/2008

The cluster for the 2004 chevy Impala. It makes not sense that this system goes out after 75,000 miles on a car. The dealer ship want to charge 600. 00 to replace the part for the car. I will never buy another american car because of this problem and the problem I am having with the security light keep coming on, and then shutting the engine off for 15min until the car will run again. That happen when I was out late at night and I was the only one left in the parking lot waiting on my car to start. I feel that is a security problem with my safety. I have to keep taking my car to the dealership to have that problem reset. My cluster is still out don't know how fast I am driving nor if my car is running hot, nor how gas I have n my car.

13 Dashboard Failed problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2008

The instrument cluster has went out on my 04 Impala LS. First the speed odometer quit working, then the rpms quit and now the temperature gauge works about half the time. What's next the gas gauge? this is a major safety concern not having a properly working speed odometer. I have two small kids. This is the second complaint entered. There are several others with this same problem!! something needs to be done ASAP before someone gets killed!! no one seems to care about this matter. I can't afford to have this fixed. A recall needs to be issued. Since this is a factory malfunction!!!! do something please!!.

14 Dashboard Failed problem

Failure Date: 08/11/2008

Instrument cluster failure on 2004 chevy Impala.

15 Dashboard Failed problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2008

Speedometer and fuel gauge went out unexpectedly at around 45000 miles in July. Fuel gauge doesn't work at all (below e all the time) and speedometer reads incorrect readings or just stays below 0. I had it "diagnosed" at a chevy dealer so I could call chevy and complain. They said they wouldn't fix it, and the projected cost was $400. This is gm's fault and I should not have to pay out-of-pocket to fix their mistakes.

16 Dashboard Failed problem

Failure Date: 11/22/2007

1. I was driving my vehicle when I noticed the speedometer began to reflect readings in excess of the actual speed I was driving, e. G. , registering beyond 120 mph (the needle would pass that mark and continue moving) when the car's actual speed was probably less than 50 mph. Upon stopping the vehicle, the speedometer would register mph in excess of zero (e. G. , 80 mph). The needle would not return to zero even with the engine off. 2. The failure of the speedometer caused me to not know the actual speed I was driving, which placed me in jeopardy of driving significantly faster than the posted speed for a given stretch of road. I had to take the vehicle to a local dealer for repair. 3. According to the dealer invoice, the dealers service department "removed, replaced and setup (the) ip cluster assembly. The replaced part was not made available to me. 4. General motors is experiencing this same type of speedometer cluster failure on various other gm models beginning with model years 2003 and later. Gm has special policy coverage for certain of its models with this problem, but not for all models. My vehicle is a 2004 Chevrolet Impala which had 57,355 miles on it when the problem occurred. I was advised by gm that, ". . . The special coverage. . . Do ES not include your vehicle. . . " and that I would have to bear any expense I incurred for the service performed by the dealer.

17 Dashboard Failed problem

Failure Date: 11/22/2007

The cluster in the dash had went out which makes the speedometer quit working causing a safety issue.

18 Dashboard Failed problem

Failure Date: 11/20/2007

Speedometer is burning the needle at the 3rd gear mark while driving. While stopped at a red light yesterday (12/08/07), the speedometer was reading 112 mph, sitting still!! I cannot get the speedometer needle to set at 0 anymore. I am in the process of teaching my 15 1/2 year old son to drive and this is a huge issue. I am constantly making him pull over and switching seats with me as he cannot get a speeding ticket on his permit. It is impossible to guess at your speed, even with the other traffic flow and we should not have to do this. I have had the car checked and the result is the instrument cluster is bad, with an estimate to fix it that is unreasonably high. Additionally, gm knows this is an issue, so they should recall and fix these since they ordered an assembly change on them.

19 Dashboard Failed problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2007

Instrument cluster failure causing speedometer to show inaccurate readings and/or become completely inoperative. Other gauges also register inaccurate reading.

20 Dashboard Failed problem

Failure Date: 09/16/2007

I have a 2004 chevy Impala that the electronic instrument cluster does not work on. The gas gauge, temp gauge, and speedometer have not worked consistently on this car since I purchased this car back on 09/2007. The speedometer will show that I am going 0 miles an hour when I am actually moving, and my gas gauge will be pointing straight down, same as my temp gauge. I have taken the car back to bill seidle Chevrolet, the dealer that I purchased it from, and they will not address the issue. I have also contacted chevorlet about this situation and was told that it is not important enough and life threatening enough to have this addressed. Even though there are blogs out there with hundreds of people with the exact same problem that I am experiencing. I feel that this is extremely dangerous not just to my 2004 chevy Impala but to virtually every gm owner since thru 2005, that there is a serious known safety issue resulting from the failure of the instrument cluster unable to determine speed of vehicle, when or if a vehicle is overheating, unable to determine how much or if any gas remains in the vehicle, these are serious issues when driving a 2004 chevy Impala. A driver has no way of knowing critical information needed when driving a vehicle. The gas gauge, temp gauge, speedometer do not work. Chevy is aware of the issue and has consistently refused to make repairs of the faulty instrument panel. I implore you to please demand the chevy recall on this electronic instrument cluster failures for the safety of all of us. I challenge you to google 2004 chevy Impala, invariably every result will pertain to electronic instrument cluster. How could this not rise to the level requiring a recall?.

21 Dashboard Failed problem

25 Dashboard Failed problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2006

No events leading, speedometer and temp gage instrument cluster failure at all times, cannot know what speed I am traveling at. I'm waiting for a recall as this is a known problem with the general public and the manufacturer - Chevrolet. This is a very dangerous situation not to know your speed accurately.

26 Dashboard Failed problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2006

Cluster is out on my 2004 chevy Impala. This controls the speed odometer, temperature gauge, gas gauge, rpms. First the speed odometer went out then the temperature gauge messing up now the rpms. I have not had this car very long. Only has 66,000 miles. There has not been any crashes or injuries yet. But I do have two small children. And I'm very concerned about this safety matter. The part is very expensive and I can't afford it. No recalls have been made to my knowledge.

27 Dashboard Failed problem

Failure Date: 05/23/2005

The contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Impala. The vehicle caught fire in the dashboard area and then spread to the hood. The fire occurred two to three months after the vehicle was purchased. A relative sustained injuries to the hand due to the fire. The cause of the failure was electrical. There is no fire or police report. The vehicle was repaired, but the contact does not know the specifics of the repair work. Three months after the repairs were completed, the check engine light illuminated and the vehicle began vibrating when the brakes were depressed. This failure occurred while driving 20 mph or more. The brakes and the disc were replaced and aligned. The failure continued to occur and the brakes were replaced within a month. The mechanic stated that the disc failed which caused the brakes to fail. The contact detects the smell of fuel within the vehicle. The fuel gauge has failed to operate normally since the repairs were performed. The fuel gauge indicated that the fuel level was full; however, the engine shut off and there was no fuel in the vehicle. There was also the presence of fuel on the ground after adding fuel to the vehicle. The dealer has not diagnosed the cause of the fuel gage failure or the odor. The inspector stated that the vehicle may not pass inspection due to the fuel odor in the interior. Although the brakes were repaired twice, the vibration continued to occur. The engine size was unknown. The contact can provide receipts for all of the repairs that were performed, including an insurance report. There is no fire or police report. The current mileage is 81,000 and failure mileage was 45,000. Updated 08/15/07.
