2004 Impala, 80,000 miles. Cold winter day. Consequences( having to purchase new speedometer ) nothing done to correct as of yet. Speedometer not working properly, says going 90 mph when going 60. When vehicle shut off say 30mph. Inherent flaw noted by Chevrolet vehicles (common symptoms include: speedometer displays incorrectly speedometer stops working tachometer needle sticks, jumps, or pegs fuel gauge flutters entire instrument panel fails the common cause for all these issues is a faulty stepper motor. The motor was used throughout gm?s entire production line from 2003 to 2007. ) I think there should be a recall on all vehicles with which people have had problems with incorrect reading speedometers as gm used faulty parts in manufacturing.
The instrument panel is malfunctioning. First, the tachometer stopped working at all, now the speedometer indicates erroneous speeds. It shows that I am driving very fast when I'm actually much slower than the rest of the traffic. When parked, it shows 15-20 mph. It's very unsafe to drive without knowing your real speed, especially on long trips on the highway. Since the problem is quite common, gm should issue a recall to avoid such negative publicity.
2004 Impala police package. Instrument panel failure. After 15-20 minutes driving, the speedometer drop back to about 15 at highway speed. With several stop it stay below 0 and never move again. Gm should replace all defected instrument panel for Impala like they do to other models as soon as possible.
2004 chevy Impala instrument panel failure. Consumer states that the cruise control set to 70 and driver was only moving about 40 mph. Speedometer read 140 mph and consumer was not going that fast.
My instrument panel also went out in winter of 2007. Called gm directly who refused to help with this problem. My father in law owns an avalanche and received recall notice for the instrument panel for his truck and other large SUV's that are made by Chevrolet. The years covered included 2004. If gm knows that the instrument panels were bad for other models, why haven't they been recalled for the Impalas. My car did the same thing; driving approx 40 mph and car read 75 mph. The speedometer read 120 mph on the highway that day when cars were flying by me. This is most definitely a safety issue. Unfortunately, gm seems to be waiting for serious injury or death before recalling the bad parts. This goes along with the steering column shafts being bad also. What a joke!! I too will never purchase another american made car as long as I am able to drive. I had to take gm to court over my car due to the car being in the shop approx. 25 times for repairs before it was 4 years old. My whole car has basically been replaced (including the instrument panel and steering column shaft) except for the slipping transmission now. I take very good care of my car as I have the indy motor speedway ss. Paid a lot of $$ for nothing. It's no wonder gm is going under. Their cars are junk and they don't stand behind their products. What a shame. Hopefully no one has serious injury due to all the safety failures with these cars.
Instrument panel malfunction has been a problem with my 2004 chevy Impala for 3 yrs now. Like everyone else, can't afford to get it fixed. In winter, the speedometer rarely works at all and the temperature gauge just goes wherever it wants. However, I have not had any problems with the gas gauge, but not saying that I won't. I really do believe that a recall should be made for this problem.
