1 Ignition Module problem

Failure Date: 03/31/2014

I went out to start my Impala to get ready for work. Unlock my doors as I normally do, and proceed to start the car. It is the chevy key that comes with the car. Anyway, I turn the key and nothing, all I get on my dash is the flashing security light. So I went back inside and done some research while on the phone with my supervisor letting him know that I was going to be late. Turns out, this is a common problem with the Impala of my body style, the ignition switch or the pass lock module. Very inconvenient, this is the 5th or 6th time this has happened, really hurts when you have kids with you and its hot or cold outside. This issue needs to be looked into!.

2 Ignition Module problem

Failure Date: 03/04/2011

Event: use the brakes. Failure: front end shakes. Repair: replace rotors. Event: drive at any speed. Failure: speedometer gone haywire, says your going 20 when you are going 70… repair: rebuilt instument cluster. Event: any time engine running. Failure: temp gauge haywire. You pull over thinking your car is overheating; it's not. Repair: rebuilt instument cluster. Event: any time engine running. Failure: fuel gauge haywire. Don't know how much fuel you have, could run out of gas (did not happen to me). Repair: rebuilt instument cluster. Event: using blinkers. Failure: blinkers either don't work work when activated, or flash randomly. Repair: replace blinker/hazard module. Event: turning ignition key failure: no crank, no start - secrurity light on. Wait a while, car starts like nothing happened. Repair: bypassed and disabled security 'passlock' switch. Event: using wipers/rain. Failure: windhshield wipers stop in middle of windshield, continue after turning off, or don't come on when switch turned on. Repair: replace wiper motor & pulse board. Event: stop at intersection with engine running failure: engine surging and stalling. You must keep your foot planted on the brake so that you don't run into the car in front of you. It stalled out of state in an intersection. Repair: replace mass air flow sensor (maf). This most recent maf problem was the last straw. This car has other non-safety related electrical problems, as well as the normal wear items that you would replace on a 'real car'. This car is a rolling electrical disaster. This car is a money pit, just like its manufacturer. Good luck with that chevy volt.

3 Ignition Module problem

Failure Date: 06/30/2008

The contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Impala. Occasionally, when the contact attempted to start the vehicle, there was a delayed crank. The vehicle takes several hours to start sometimes. Prior to the failure, all of the warning lights illuminated on the instrument control panel. The vehicle lost all power as if the battery failed; however, the exterior lighting was still operative. The contact also heard a dull humming noise. The contact was advised by another consumer who was experiencing similar failures that the computer chip was not recognizing the key. She took the vehicle to an authorized dealer, but they could not duplicate the failure or provide a sufficient repair. The dealer also stated that there could be several defects with the electrical system: ignition module; however, they were afraid to make repairs because they did not know if either of the remedies would resolve the issue. The starter and battery were replaced, but immediately after the repair the vehicle failed. The failure and current mileages were 52,000.

4 Ignition Module problem

Failure Date: 05/19/2008

This is an on-going problem that started in mid may, 2008. My security light comes on and then a while later, my car won't start for an extended period of time. . . . I have had this to the Chevrolet dealer 3 times and have replaced the ignition switch and the body control module. They are at a loss of what to do next. I have heard similar complaints with the Impala - and no remedies.

5 Ignition Module problem

Failure Date: 05/10/2007

Vehicle has been stalling intermittently at any speed. Vehicle has stalled a total of ten times. The vehicle has been taken to the local mechanic shop five times and the dealership twice but no codes were found during testing. So far I have had new plugs/wires (tune-up), new coil pack, new ignition module and new crank sensor, and new fuel filter. The vehicle completely dies at any speed. Told possibility of bad fuel pump but dealership cannot be 100% certain this will fix the problem. While driving at 70-75 miles an hour the car completely shuts down. It is a miracle I have not been severely hurt or killed. Problems began in may 2007 and have been ongoing since then.

6 Ignition Module problem

Failure Date: 12/13/2006

- the contact stated that when she started vehicle with 70000 miles on it the starter staysed engaged for about 5 seconds. The contact said that this could happen under any conditions. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer and that they could not find a problem. The contact said that this happened several times a month.

7 Ignition Module problem

Failure Date: 10/05/2005

The contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Impala. While driving approximately 60 mph, the contact turned off the high beam headlights and the electrical system failed without warning. The contact had to park the vehicle and manipulate the high beam switch on the steering column in order for the lighting/electricity to return. In addition, the vehicle received a recall repair for the ignition key where the key was replaced. Afterwards, when the key was in the ignition and turned, the vehicle failed to start. Once the vehicle was started and the key was in the on position, the vehicle would stall without warning. The contact had to manipulate the key in the start position several times in order to start the vehicle. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the switch on the steering column and body control module failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer stated that because the vehicle was over 10 years old, they were unable to assist with the repair. The failure recurred. The failure mileage was 42,536.
