I called Chevrolet customer service about a recall on the car. I explained the problem with the ignition switch and I were told it was covered under the recall #14v400000 electrical system: ignition. They had it towed to a Chevrolet service place to be fixed. I received a call that the problem was not covered under the recall and I was responsible for all charges of the work done on the vehicle. A key was made under the recall and the ignition key lock cylinder was not replaced. I paid the bill and had it towed back. The man that delivered it put the key in the ignition and it would not come out or turn. I do not feel I should be responsible for charges and they needed to change the ignition key lock cylinder. The car was in the driveway and when a person went to start the car the key would not turn and would not come out of the ignition switch. Resulting in the vehicle couldn't be started. I feel this whole recall was handled improperly and I should not have had to be responsible for charges. The frustration of how it was handled I feel they needed to be more professional about the way they handled this recall before they towed the vehicle to a service place and then make me responsible for charges of work done on the vehicle and towing vehicle back not fixed.
For the past few weeks I will go to start my car and it will not crank over. But the security light in the message center will blink constantly. At times while I'm driving it will begin to flash also. It takes about 15-20 minutes before my vechile will start after multiple tries.

I was drive home from work at night and my security light came on my car. The next thing it was off. While I was driving to work after leaving home the light came back on and stay on. I got to work and look in my gm manual and seen that I should take it to a dealer. I went to my car after work to go home the light was off. I stop to get gas. My car would not start. Nice man came and said lets disconnect the battery. He did. My car started. I was ok for threes day then the light came back on and my car would not start. I had a recall on the ignition switch in sept of 2014. Took it to the dealer they only fix the key. I took it to the dealer today they had to fix a part on the ignition switch. Please ask that there is a recall. I dont feel safe with this car. I can't afford a new car. I scared that this car could stop running while driving it. Thank you.

On the night of April 24, 2014 at approximately 10:30 pm I had just got off work and went to start my car and it would not start I got a message displayed on the control panel which says security after sitting about 30 minutes in the rain and cold it started up then I got home and turn it off then tried to turn it back on and it would not start it show security on the dashboard I have reviewed a couple sites on the internet and a lot of people having this problem with Chevrolet Impala's from 2000 to 2004 I think that's a big concern being a electric problem because you can be in the middle-of-the-road and a car just cuts off and will not start back up.

First of all my security light flashed on and off several months before, and then it stayed on right before these times my car would not start. I was out of town at the hospital. Went to start my Impala and it wouldn't start. I had to wait 20 mintues and it started up and ran perfect. Got home ,shut the car off ,went back out to go to the store and it wouldn't start again. Waited 10 mintues ,still would not work. Waited another 15 mintues ,car started. Went to the store. Came out of the store started right up. Went home shut the car off ,next morning had my husband try and start the car. It started right up . So I thought everythings ok . Got in my car to go to the doctor would not start. Waited 30 mintues started. That's were I'm at now . I was told while im driving my car it might shut down and cause me to wreck , it has something to do with the security passlock system. I've read a lot about other 2004 chevy Impala;s doing this also. Should'nt gm do a recall before someone gets killed.

When I attempt to start the vehicle , sometimes it will not start. No ignition. There is power but not ignition. After I wait 10 minutes it will start. It has something to do with the ignition switch. I have been informed that this is a security switch in the ignition switch, the shuts the car down, so the car cannot be started. And after 10 minutes exactly the vehicle will start. I have talked with other individuals that state that they too have this problem.
The car will not start all lights and heat comes on or air the security light flashes will take anywhere from 5mins to 30 minutes to start you guys really need to address this issue I have seen so many complaints about it and im not understanding why there has not been a recall issued as of yet. On several occassions I have been stranded because my car will not start. It apparently has something to do with the security passlock system. When you insert the key nothing happens. It is as though it does not recognize your key as a valid key. The system prevents the car from starting even though all the other systems, radio, lights, electric windows and doors are still functional but it is as though it does not recognize that the car is in park or neutral and does not allow it to start. After several minutes it usually starts. I have taken it to the dealership where I purchased it and after running the diagonostic testing on it tell me they can find nothing wrong with it. They say "unable to duplicate customer conccern". Since the problem happens occasionally I am sure they cannot duplicate. I have found on line that there was a technical service bulletin #40847003 dated 9/1/04 on this problem and that the same diognostic service codes of b2958 and 2960 are reflected on the bulletin. I also reviewed the first 200 complaints on this site and see that 26 of those 200 were for this same matter. I am sure there are many more in the remaining 545 complaints. If Chevrolet knew this was a problem in the year this car was sold 2004 shouldn't a recall have been done at that time when the car was under warranty? can a recall not be done on this continuing problem?.
2004 chevy Impala will not start. Radio and windows will function, but car will not start. . . . This will last about 10 to 15 minutes. This is the second time this has happened. This occurs about every 2 weeks.
My car has had a problem with periodic not starting, this has been going on for years off and on. The other day was when I finally realized my car had put me in a dangerous situation. I went to the store late right before it was about to close. Went and and made my purchase. When I came out my car would not start. I have been reading about a passlock issue on certain gm models and mine falls within the make and year of vehicle with this issue. There were a group of men whom kept lingering around the store after it had closed, and here I am a female alone stranded due to a vehicle that wouldnt start. Because of a passlock defect. Thank goodnes the police came by wondering why there was a car in the parking lot of a closed store. He sat and waiting for my car to reset so that it would start. I guess it is gonna take someone to lose their life or be severely injured for gm to feel they need to fix this. I dont think anyone should have to spend their own money on a issue that gm is fully aware exists. Someone may not be so lucky next time being stranded and having their car not start. Death wont wait 10 minutes for a reset.
My turn signals intermittently don't function for a period of time, and then suddenly start working again. Restarting the car fixes the problem sometimes, but isn't very helpful when youre on the highway traveling somewhere. This is a dangerous situation, especially at night on busy streets when you cant signal to turn or merge. Also, this has happened only once, but my car would not start as others have stated the interior lights turned on but the car would not turn over. After twenty minutes the car started fine. This hasn't happened since, but if it did it would be a major inconvenience. .
My 2004 chevy Impala will not start sometimes. This is very inconvenient as I have a young child and this has happened at night far from home on more than one occasion. My security light also comes on at times and will just go off by itself. I have been told it is a bcm problem or a pass lock sensor problem, but this is an issue on many Impalas. I can't believe gm has not issued a recall on this as I am sure many people are put at risk daily.
Please help. I have a 2004 chevy Impala. It has the gm passlock. The securty light comes on the message board and sometimes the car will not start. The car has left me stranded about 25 times. I'm affraid one day it will be an emergency and my car is going to leave me stranded. This is a very common among Impala and other gm vehicles. This should be a recall ASAP. Thank you!.
The security light started coming on, and eventually the car began not starting. It started happening every once in a while, and now happens a few times a week. The lights, radio, and accessories work, but the car will not start. I have to wait 10 minutes to try again. This began about a month after my warranty expired. I took it to a shop, where they "located high resistance in ign cylinder connector to body control module removed and cleaned connectors and reprogrammed as needed". Next day, security light went on, morning after that, car would not start! was told at the shop "if security light comes back on, will need to replace tumbler and new key and reprogram $690+ tax". I have a 2-year old daughter that I care for all day, and I work nights- leaving work at 1:30 a. M. I cannot have this happening. This seems to be a widespread problem among gm cars from 2000-2009, and I cannot find a true remedy for it.

For over a year, I have had problems with the electronic system for my 2004 chevy Impala. For several months, the security light in my driver?s panel intermittently displayed when I placed the key in the ignition and my car failed to start. The car would eventually start after 15 ? 30 minutes. At first, this occurred sporadically but then became a more common occurrence. When I took my Impala to a local auto-repair shop, they were unable to diagnosis the exact problem. Their equipment reported a number of electronic errors but they were not able to pinpoint the precise cause of the car?s issues. Instead, they offered to reset the electronic codes and advised me to bring my car back at the first sign of any electronic issues. My Impala operated for the next few months without issue. However, a new electronic issue emerged with my vehicle. I noticed my car began to accelerate automatically. For example, if I was at a complete stop, the car began to accelerate at a moderate amount of speed as soon as I released the brake. Like the previous issue, this problem first occurred intermittently and soon progressed to a regular occurrence. When I took the Impala back to the auto-repair shop, the mechanics stated the automatic acceleration was due to a faulty ignition sensor. After I had the faulty ignition sensor replaced, the Impala once again ran without issue for a few months. However, the solution proved temporary as the previous automatic acceleration issue returned. I once again took my car to the auto-repair shop and once again, the mechanics blamed a faulty ignition sensor. At this point, I had the mechanics replace the ignition sensor. Since that point, my car has operated without issue until today. The security light in my drivers panel now continually displays whenever I drive. I feel as if I am at the end of my rope. I have spent a considerable amount of money to resolve this issue to no avail.
2004 chevy Impala. I go out to start the car and it will not start. I wait 15-20 minutes and it starts. The transmission also shifts hard. The speedometer says I am going 10 when I am going faster than that or it may say 100 when it is parked. Please, recall this.
