After listening to a radio report on npr describing the problem with gm ignition switch recalls I decided to test my own car for related problems. As I pulled into my driveway I tapped on the key while it was in the ignition and the key switched from on to acc mode. This resulted in my car engine shutting off, power steering loss, assisted brake malfunction, battery warning light, and the airbag light came on. All of these problems happened exactly as the radio report said they would with a faulty ignition switch. Over the last 3 years my brother in-law and I have been having various problems with our ignitions and now I believe all these problems may be caused by the defect which gm has recently reported. I have contacted the gm recall hotline and reported my car model and VIN. They informed me that there is nothing they can do since they have not received enough reports linked to the Impala. I would appreciate the recall list being expanded to include the Impala if possible. At least the years of 2003 and 2004.
Unsure if my 04 Impala is affected in the takata recall because I haven't received notice. Have recently had extensive repairs completed by a certified mechanic. And the abs, trac, check and brake lights won't go off. The security light continues to come on and disables the car not allowing it to start. Causing me the be stranded unannounced and at any random time. Steering wheel tightens and loosens at random times. After researching past recalls before my ownership I am unsure if my car has had the recall issues addressed. My car has some type of manufacturer computer glitch but GMC doesn't want to own up to it. And I've kept all receipts on repairs I've covered. These issues have been on going since the estimated date entered below.
My mechanic has been doing a lot of work on this car for the past month trying to figure out why my car completely powers off if I am driving on the road. After taking the diagnostic test again for the 3rd time it says we need two 02 sensors replaced and a new mass airflow sensor. Once we turned the key into the ignition the car began to smoke and burst into flames we pulled the keys out of the ignition and the fire department arrived and tried to put the fire out but gas leaked out and made a huge fire. The car tried to start up and we did not have the keys in the car the fire department had to cut my car battery out because it would not go out. Fortunately my fiance' and I made it out of the car alive. With all of the money I have been putting into this car to have it fixed and it catches on fire this makes me not want to ever purchase another chevy car in my life and I am only 22 years old.
I was driving my 2004 Impala when I hit a pot hole. I tried to turn and hit the brakes and nothing worked. I slammed on my emergency brake and after a while I realized the car had shut off completely. A month later my boyfriend had the same experience driving it.
(1) heating system failed. No heat, coolant was ok. Fan was running. Dealer examined. Three actuators in the electronics are failed and have to replace at a cost of over $550. 00 (2) temperature gauge stopped moving. Dealer examined. Estimated cost of $~400. 00 to replace ipc unit. There is one of the recalled ipc units for gm autos made between 2003-2007; but Impala was not included in the recall list. I don't know why? same electronics failed in one unit must be recalled from all the units. . These defects could increase heat in the engine block and could increase fuel consumption, failure of the engine and possibly cause fire, contacted gm but they were not cooperative and denied any claims.
When you try start vehicle security light comes on and vehicle does not start. There are many reports of this issue noted online and customers are spending money on batteries and other parts without a fix. Gm needs to fix this issue seems like many notes are indicating disgust with the company not responding to this issue.
The contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Impala. The contact stated that while driving 65 mph, the temperature gauge rapidly increased and a coolant odor was emitted inside of the vehicle. We where ran into on driver side no airbag came out we have had lots of steering problems. As of today there is still problems with the steering wheel engine light stays on and we just wont drive on highway at all.
First at buying my chevy Impala it had 115,000mi on it already but desperately needed a car being a single mother. After having the car a little over a month the fuel injectors blew where my car would no longer start. Got it fixed. Next I had to keep putting power steering fluid in (once every week) went to a mechanic, he said my power steering is going to eventually go. . Next 2 months after that my car caught on fire through the lighter. Electrical. Called the fire dept. They had to cut the wires and pull the fuse. 2 months after that, my transmission blew. Just like that. I was driving on the high way and approached an accident. After coming to a complete stop tried to pick speed back up and it wouldn't go anymore than 15 mph. I pulled off to a rest area, sat there for 30mins. Reversed out of the parking lot, put it in drive, it wouldn't budge. . . Not to mention a month after buying the car. The turn signals,, brake lights, cruise control, flashers all worked when they wanted too and not when I needed it too. Came close to a few people running in the back of me due to back lights not working. . And my temp, gauge, speedometer and gas gauge do not work. Id be in park with a full tank of gas, it says im going 80mph and gas is empty. . Hate this car with a passion. . Very dangerous car. . . Would never recommend this car to anyone. . . .
I noticed when I get to 30 mph I noticed a kick in my transmission, after that it's smooth sailing until take off again. I spoke with a several mechanic about the issue and was told that my transmission solenoid was going out. They told me the Chevrolet Impala were famous for that. So I been doing research on this situation and found out that every person I spoke with have the same situation going on. I also have a friend that has an 2005 Impala as well with the same problem. We have started a group for this. Will you please look into this situation. It will be appreciated. . . . In the meantime we are starting a petition.
My speedometer has stopped working which is definitely a safety issue. Also, I have to wait 10 minutes or longer for my car to start because of the security system. I am requesting a recall on these vehicles as there are many consumers with these same problems on the internet. Thank you.
The contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Impala. The contact stated the vehicle failed to start. On a separate occasion the vehicle restarted and was taken to an independent mechanic. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 98,000 and the current mileage was 103,000.
Rocker arm bolts came out of head disabling cylinder #1. Causing engine to run rough and could not exceed 15mph. Threads in head failed. This happened again in December 28, 2010 affecting cylinders #3 and #5. Now again this issue as of March 9, 2012 in cylinder #2. In each occurrence threads from head were found in bolt threads. Bolts were loose disabling cylinder from working. This happens without warning and due to concern of further damaging engine, car requires towing. This seems to be a defect in the materials the head was made of.
Please help. I have a 2004 chevy Impala. It has the gm passlock. The securty light comes on the message board and sometimes the car will not start. The car has left me stranded about 25 times. I'm affraid one day it will be an emergency and my car is going to leave me stranded. This is a very common among Impala and other gm vehicles. This should be a recall ASAP. Thank you!.
Was in my car driving smoke came from under the hood. Raised the hood and it was on fire.
Failure of lower intake gaskets on 2004 Chevrolet Impala.
My wife was driving home from work when the engine stopped running and caused her to have to pull off the road. It took several minutes before car would restart. Since the first time she had this happen at least 3 times a year since. I've driven the car several times after she has told me it happened again and had our mechanic look at it also. Also have had the instrument panel gauges not working properly for 2 years now and haven't been able to figure out why, we think there is a short somewhere in the electrical system but have not been able to pin point it. The chrome plate aluminum alloy rims the chrome has been flaking off since the car was 2 years old and we now have to keep refilling the tires with air at least once a week. Have gone to the dealer a couple of times but get a run around that its not a problem with the car. I have talked to a gentleman who also has the only other 2004 Impala ss in our town and he has the same problems as we have had and gotten same response from our local dealer where we both bought our cars from. My Impala ss at this time has just over 80,000 miles on it and in addition to problems mentioned above we had to have power steering pump, rack in pinion and alternator replaced and looking like the rack in pinion is going out again as I write this. I've become very disappointed with Chevrolet over this car.
Car was taken in for brakes. Rotors warped @ 21,500 miles. 12,000 miles later, warped again. Was told this was common and there was nothing they could do for me. Repair cost out of pocket. Car was taken in for an overheating problem. Was told it was totally natural for my car to get that hot. Unbelievable!! now I have an intake or a head gasket that is bad. Again, nothing they can do. Again, cost out of my pocket. This will be the last chevy I service. My car only has 34,000 miles it. The service center told us, "cars are made different these days. Stuff happens. " if they can't stand behind their cars I won't buy another. 34,000 miles and my car is junk. I think a recall should be issued regarding these problems. Bad brakes and bad gaskets.
I bought 2004 Impala and have ignition problem with witnesses with a dent in front bumper, after ten years or over 100k miles the gasket goes on gm/GMC products, both inner tie rods rotten out. I have talk to gm executive office that fix the Impala problem in 2011 but unwilling to deal with it now. I think I need out side counsel and engineering firm to test and testify on my behave and3,700 other owners with the same problem. I want new vehicles and setting up a date with congressional oversight committee, and NHTSA review my case. I have met with congressional panel investigating gm that want to help me resolve this problem. I been a gm person but seriously looking in the foreign market if I have no serious resolution.
This vehicle had a head gasket repaired under standard 3 year/36,000 mile warranty. We are now told we have another head gasket or head problem at 49,000 miles. This appears to be an engine manufacturer problem or I got a lemon engine from Chevrolet?.
Dex-cool antifreeze turned brown and sludged up. Less than one year and 16,200 miles on vehicle. Took to dealer and had system flushed, reservoir replaced and new coolant added. I will take it back for the same thing every year. Many people I've spoken to with gm vehicles have experienced the same thing with this coolant.
