36 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 05/03/2017

Autonation along with gm communicated with my mechanic and myself and told me that my car repairs would be completed and paid for by gm as part of recall work and subsequent damage from the recall work not being performed before additional damage could occur. We were even told that our rental car would be paid for but once they towed the car from our mechanic to their shop, they told us that we would have to pay for that, although didn't communicate that to us until over a month had gone by. Subsequently, autonation towed my car back to my mechanic but with even more damage than they themselves stated had been the situation with my car. Their own mechanic stated both verbally and in writing (in the work order) that the recalled wires shorted causing the damage to my car. No one will tell us why that changed once our car was towed to them as we would never have towed it to them if that would have been the case. Additionally, no one has told us why or who the someone is who disagreed with their own mechanic (and 3 additional mechanics subsequently) and made the determination that we would have to pay for the short and related damages. I do have the gm document safety recall report associated with this recall that outlines what happened to our call will happen to 1 percent of the cars manufactured during the timeframe my car was manufactured as well as the work order from autonation clearly stating a short caused damage to my vehicle.

My car went into the shop on 9/20/2016 for the airbag recall. A little over a week later and the "service airbag" light is still coming on and off. The recall did nothing to fix the problem. Reading up I am not the only one who is still having issue. Please issue a recall that will fully solve this problem instead of just a week long bandaid.

42 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 08/15/2016

Received a safety recall for above car for the airbag. The recall is #36110. It states that dic alerts may intermittently turn on and off. The dashboard light on my car has been doing exactly that. I brought it to curry Chevrolet in white plains, NY. The dealer told me that the airbag recall has nothing to do with the airbag warning sign that won't turn off and wanted to charge me $700 to fix it. The car only has $31,000 miles on it. I am 80 years old and do not have the resources to fix this problem as I am on a fixed income. I feel the airbag recall/and light problem are definitely related. I am 80 years old and do not have the resources to fix this problem as I am on a fixed income. I feel the airbag recall/and light problem are derfinately related and that I am being taken advantage of. I look forward to your assistance. Thank you, ronald.

A fix airbag warning comes up on the dashboard display. It is inconsistent- as it will come on when starting the car, but most often while driving. 44 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 12/10/2015

"service airbags" displayed on dash. Will come in and go off randomly. Searching internet I found this link to report the issue. Seems as if this is a defect that should have a recall issued, its a safety issue!.

45 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 10/14/2015

October 2015, while driving display came up with message "service air bag" with icon also showing on display. Checking into this message I found that this is a serious problem and that I cannot depend on having air bag protection if in an accident. Checking various sources online, found hundreds of complaints and that when many serious accidents occured, no air bags deployed . Called my gm dealer and was told that problem could be caused by several different problems and could mean installing new air bags at a cost of $1200. 00. With all the current recalls for the takade air bags, why are these air bag defects on the chevolet Impala's not being recalled. They present a real danger to passengers in these cars. In some of the complaints online, even after the cars were serviced by the dealers, the problems reoccured. I am an 81 year old female with out the resources to pay several hundred dollars to, maybe, have the problem fixed and I am sure many other owners of the Impala's are in the same circumstance. I feel this is a serious safety issure and should be considered as such.

50 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 07/28/2015

When turning the car on the "service air bag" light stayed illuminated then it would randomly turn off while driving then turn back on. The following day the "service air bag" light just stays on at all times now. I feel that this is a huge safety issue and upon searching online and some online forums this seems to be a common issue with chevy Impalas from 2006-2013.

51 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 06/27/2015

At start up, the service air bag came on dash and the air bag seat belt light came on. And now it stays on. I see this seems to be a regular problem with the Impala. . If that many people are having that problem it seems to me to be a faulty something and a safety issue.

52 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 04/24/2015

This was the first time the service air bag came across center info on dash info system. The light also showing that the srs was on indicating a problem. My husband came took the car for a test and no lights or warnings. Took it to the dealership and serviceman stated if the errors are not showing it could be a problem trying to find the issue of the light and warning. With just over 10,000 miles on this vehicle 2009 Impala because being over 5 years old I would have to pay for all checks which may or may not correct anything. My husband has checked it several times in the last few days and he didn't get any errors. I drove it to church today and sure enough it said service air bag and the icon light was on for driver's air bag. Then no lights or warnings coming home. Will the air bags deploy when this warning is showing? why can't the dealer inform owners of this vehicle that a problem exists. I found several places on line about the same problem. Apparently one person paid over 900 dollars for a repair others said that dealers were of no help. I just want to go on record that this may be a safety issue and all owners with this problem should report it to gm and also to the NHTSA.

57 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 07/28/2014

The "service air bag" light comes on and turns off occasionally. There does not seem to be something in particular that happens for the "service air bag" to either come on or shut off, but from what I have heard this is not an issue with the air bag. It has been to the chevy dealer more than once (not for that light) and they haven't even mentioned it. Very nervous that if something were to be wrong with the air bag, how would I possibly know when the light was actually stating a real problem??.

Air bag complains that it needs service. The light on the dash will stay on indefinitely. Sometimes the light will not come on and the car will not display an error, other times it will appear at the time that I start the vehicle and will not turn off for months. Other times it randomly turns on while driving.

64 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 08/29/2013

2009 chevy Impala 3. 5l ffv - my "passenger airbag" light has been coming on intermittently since early spring 2013. In August 2013, my "brake" light suddenly came on while driving. There didn't appear to be any handling issues. Both the regular brakes & parking brake worked normally the brake fluid level was full. For a few months the "brake" light would come on sporadically & alarm while driving, all without any changes in driving or braking ability. Around September 2013, the "traction control" & "check engine" lights came on. Again, there did not seem to be any issue with handling. These lights also came on & off randomly & they were seldom all on simultaneously. Occasionally, the warning panel also says, "engine power reduced" & acceleration & power are diminished. There's also been a "low pressure left rear tire. " the left front tire was found to be low, but the rear tire was ok. Tonight, the "check engine" & "traction control" lights came on & the display said "engine power reduced. " suddenly, it said, "starting disabled service throttle" & my car essentially lost all power. The steering also locked up. It was very difficult to pull off of the road. I restarted the car after about 1 minute, & the "traction control" light was no longer on, but the "check engine" light was. I was able to drive again, without difficulty.

65 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 07/10/2013

The airbag needs servicing light comes on as soon as I start the engine and the seatbelt light for the passenger seat goes on even if there is noone in the seat and it stays on when there is a passenger. The car was never in an accident or any kind of collision. This is just going to be another unnecessary expense.
