general problems of the 2014 Chevrolet Impala - part 1

The transmission went out while driving. Also the trunk leaks when it rains.

Car can’t read transmission gears the stabilitrak service is on.

To whom it may concern: I have had my vehicle fixed twice for the same problem . The automotive service shop that fixed it said it was a part called an autonator. It makes a clicking sound when the vehicle shuts off. It has been repaired twice and eventually it starts back. Also one side of the heating system works. When you turn it on one side stays cool and the other side gives the warm air.

My car has had a the side detection modules fail every 1 to 2 years since I've owned the car new in 2014. The dealership has repaired it for free every time now for at least 5 times. Now that the car is not under warranty they refuse to fix it for free. This is a problem with the design and engineering of the car and it is very costly to fix. The problem will continue to occur since the manufacturer refuses to find a permanent solution to the issue. It is related to the placement of the unit and it is affected by the environment and corrodes.

Side detection system failures. Repaired side detection systems 2 times ( 2017/2018 and again in 2020) both times gm reimbursed for repairs under technical bulletin. Repairs were supposed to be using “redesigned” parts to prevent issue from reoccurring. Side detection system requires service again in February 2023. That is 3 times this failure has occurred in 8 years of owning this car. I have been told not too drive this vehicle with this issue as more serious issues can happen - dashboard failure, engine issues, etc. Which can cause serious issues while driving. Even though gm extended the warranty for this, it doesn’t seem fair that I have to continue to pay repairs for a defective system …. . Especially when I cannot drive for safety reasons. If this were just cosmetic, not that bad an issue. But this is a safety concern.

Due to a poor electrical ground connection to the power steering control module, the vehicle has been losing power steering assist during start up and while driving; this requires much greater effort for me to steer the vehicle even at low speeds, and is increasing the risk of a crash for me and my family.

When I’m driving and slow down my key will turn itself off making the car itself shut off.

Vehicle is available for inspection upon request. Brake booster not regulating properly. This is causing the vehicle to not stop at a timely manner and a need to push brake all the way down for vehicle to eventually stop which is unsafe when driving. This has been confirmed by independent service center which has recommended to search for recall. No warnings or messages prior to issue.

I was driving straight on freeway at 70mph when "service stabilitrak" "service traction control" and "engine power reduced" showed in my dash as well as check engine light. At the same time the car shifted itself to 3rd gear and reduced speed to 40mph without change in driver input. This resulted in a near accident that would have been fatal. There was a 18 wheeler right behind me who was luckily paying attention and did not crush me when my vehicle did this. I then had to continue down the freeway unable to go beyond 50mph or get out of 3rd gear due to traction control malfunction. I had traction control set to off as I always do, it's not a needed thing living in a dry low elevation environment. If I applied more gas the engine would "bog down" and nearly stall because the computer was limiting speed and gear. I nearly died today because of poor engineering.

My trunk keeps getting wet and check engine light keeps coming on because of gas cap or leak.

I just got my car back from the dealer and not even a day later after they had it for 3 days they told me that they could find nothing wrong with my car. But as I am riding down the highway I was going about 65 and my car shut and came back on. I lost control of my steering wheel, then the car started driving normal. Once I arrived to my job and turned the car off. My vehicle shut off and the ignition lights along with the side panel lights was blanking but nothing else was on. I couldn't put my windows up and the car wouldn't cut on so I left it for a few minutes and walked back outside after 5 minutes because I noticed all of my outside lights where on, and at this time. I was able to cut my car on and off but I don't know what to expect when I get ready to leave. I need someone to contact me so I can get this fix because its becoming annoying and I am a disabled veteran and its working my mental.

Around 3 years ago. 3 parts the lane departure modules control are the blind spot sensors, rear backup sensors and a front camera. My lane departure modules got wet and messed up my car where there were many things going wrong. While I was driving my car said the air bag went off, theft was detected, blower fan & temp controls where going on and off while I was driving. 2 years ago gm agreed to replace the modules. The dealership said they were having problems with the programming of the modules. They finally got them to program. The day I picked up my car I noticed issues with the sensor system. They said to drive it. I took it and the problem got worse. With the blind spot sensor, on the passenger side goes on and off all the time, I have pictures and videos showing where I am driving with no vehicle next to me at all with the light for the sensor shining bright. The rear backup sensor does not warm me, last week I did not see a garbage can behind me because it was lower than my trunk and I hit the can and broke my tail light. The front sensor that tells me I am going to fast for the car in front of me goes on randomly when the car in front of me is more than 100 feet or no car at all. I have taking my car to 3 dealerships 4 times. All the deanship's say they can't fix it because they don't get a code. There is no code for this, not to mention when my lane departure modules failed there was no code for it, they just stopped working. They say it is undiagnoseable. Gm saw the pictures and videos and are now saying there is nothing wrong with the system without looking at the car just the pictures and videos. How can they say nothing is wrong when you see in the videos the light is on and no car is next to me? how do I let my 15-year-old daughter drive this car with a light on when no one is there? please help me! the safety and security system is not safe at all.

Noticed a smell of mold in the trunk. Noted water in the spare tire area and mold. Took to the dealer and found the rear taillight seals leaking. Noticed there is TSB g-191495 and NHTSA 10092869 regarding the issue. Its costing over $400 to fix and that does not include drying out the carpets etc. The moisture extended up into the passenger compartment up to the front floor wells.

All my side sensors are failing and causing my info system to turn off. Also noticed smoke coming from one of the sensors. These events occur when the car is started up.

Water leaking into truck mold is growing I know there's been a lot of cases this problem need to get fixed my car smells really bad like mold this is a health issue.

To brake my steering wheel turns to the right. I found mold in my trunk.

The gasket on a rear light deteriorated causing a leak in the trunk of the car. First addressed it with the dealership in the fall of 2019. They said they couldn't find anything. Happened again as covid began. When the dealership was able, they tried to repair the car and to remove the mold that had grown & did an ionizing treatment. They said it didn't work. Asked us to contact chevy customer service. We've been waiting since may 8 for resolution to the mold issue. The car is now beyond repair. We've sent numerous emails and called repeatedly. They've assured us that they would get back to us by this past Monday, July 20 and they have not. Due to the mold, the car is unsafe to drive. They have yet to send someone to the dealership to even look at the car. The owner of this car is an 88 year old man with stage 4 cancer and is fighting kidney failure. He needs this car for appointments and treatments. Chevy is aware of this. We need help, please.

The sunroof sunshade won't retract properly and the fabric hangs down so I can't see out my rear window from the rear view mirror. This happened while driving on the highway. I had to exit and park my car. The shade had issues closing however I was finally able to get it closed. Then a code came up with body control module / sunroof/sunshade actuator calibration not learned (symptom 4b) code: b369d. Also my parking brake engages without touching the button. It happens when I start my vehicle and the parking light on the dash is lit up. I have to disengage it. I will then hear my brakes rubbing on the rotors while driving and making my car vibrate while driving almost like the brakes are catching on a couple spots on the rotors.

Side sensor fuse was blown and with message on vehicle display. Replaced with the correct type of fuse. Went into house and 15 minutes later could smell smoke. Went to garage and saw smoke coming from the vehicle bumper area, no fire was present.

Hello, I have a general question about vehicle safety as it relates to automobile recalls/safety bulletins for Chevrolet. I own a Chevrolet vehicle and have found out that there are 2 issues with my car, one of them directly related to airbags and them deploying correctly. Chevrolet has only issued a safety bulletin, and has set ridiculous limits to what they are required to cover. I want to know how the dot has not required them to issue a recall to fix the issue on their cost. With this being related to safety I would have thought this was a very important matter. Service stilbilitrak . . . My car would not accelerate or shift gears right.

While opening the sunroof the sunshade dislodged from slider causing the copper metal retractable piece to snap loudly and hit me in the head aside from scaring me near death as I was driving down the highway. The sunshade now sags blocking the visibility of the rearview mirror as well the sunroof will not work as the sunshade can't open.

Water leak forming mold throughout car. Dealer refused to check vehicle. Health hazard. Various complaints of the same issue on make of car. Standing water in trunk.

The check engine light in the vehicle came on and the vehicle began to lose power and then regain power while accelerating and also while still in motion even while not currently accelerating. The problem was diagnosed by the chevy dealership and it was determined that a rocker arm needed to be replaced. The part (#12633613) is not available and there is no estimated time per gm when it will be available again. My vehicle has not been safe to drive and sitting at the dealership since October 15th 2019, it is currently January 8th 2020. This part is an issue for all 2014 and 2015 Impala and malibu vehicles with the engine type in the 2014 Impala LS. The dealership has referred to the gm part as being defective yet gm has not issued a recall. Gm refuses to provide any information regarding the part and will not even confirm if it will ever be produced again. This issue is effecting thousands of vehicles and gm's failure to address this issue is leaving the owners of the affected vehicles driving unsafe vehicles. Gm needs to issue a recall or manufacture more of the part if it is simply a production issue (which they will not confirm or deny).

I was traveling forward going about 25 mph on a residential street when suddenly, after going over a dip, the vehicle seemed to drop on the front right hand side. Simultaneously, the side airbags (both front and back) deployed. I completely lost control of the vehicle, but luckily was able to come to a stop on the side of the road. The vehicle was unable to be driven away from the accident. When I looked at my front tires they were no longer turned the same direction but there was no noticeable damage to the front end, tires, or rims at all. The only symptom that comes to mind before this incident happening was the front right low pressure tire light would turn on. I would put air in it, and figured I must have ran over a nail and had a slow leak. Due to how violent the accident felt going only 25 mph, it makes me wonder if this has happened before to other people. If I'd been going 50 mph or more it would have most definitely rolled, damaging the vehicle to the point of not being able to really identify the root cause. Please look into this. It is very disturbing.

I had noticed the epb light coming on intermittently, far more often than every 50 key cycles, and began experiencing a significant decrease in acceleration, poor braking, brake dust buildup, uneven tire wear, bogging down when the vehicle would shift and when accelerating out of a slowdown and/or turn. I would also constantly smell brake dust and tire rubber and felt my brakes would become extremely hot to the touch after short trips. I observed the outer rear brake pads through the caliper and there seemed to be decent pad left. However I took my vehicle to the dealership many times and was told every time that there was no need to replace the pads. I was never notified of any software flashes to correct any known or unknown issues, and was once told that my brakes needed to be bled and after having the dealership service them was told the issue should be corrected. I had friends and family with automotive backgrounds look at my brakes and tell me there seemed to be no visible issues. I finally decided to have a look myself one day. After hoisting the vehicle up, removing the rear tire and inspecting the caliper and pads, I realized that the epb had actually heat/rust-welded itself to the inner brake pad which was completely worn with no pad whatsoever. The epb was actually unable to retract, even though the light was off, because the metal plate on the back of the pad had been fused to the epb. I had taken it back to the dealer who refused to look at it again, and was inevitably tasked with correcting the issue myself. I have spent hundreds of dollars on new pads, rotors, caliper pins, grease, tires, etc. Because of the persisting issue. When I searched my vehicle by VIN it told me there were no recalls, but after searching by year/make/model I finally found the recall involving the epb causing drag after failing to retract. This issue continues today.

In my 2014 chevy Impala lt I have noticed that when it rains or when washing the car water seems to leak into the car in the trunk and into the area where the spare tire sits. However it's not noticeable as the carpet in the trunk does not appear to be bet untill you lift it up. Another thing I noticed with this was that my locks on the doors were locking and unlocking by themselves and at one point the vehicle did not respond to the unlock request from the transponder. I then used onstars remote unlock after trying every button on the transponder to gain entry to the vehicle. Short time after that experience I have noticed my parking break to activate it's self after being parked and the car being shut off I would come back and see that the parking light would be on and I'd have to press the break to unlock the parking break. When the cars parking break goes on the car is parked on a flat surface. I want the car to repeat the issues so they may be recorded on video however I don't want to damage my vehicle as I take pride in the product that I have purchased.

Service blind detection system. This warning came on after 1 day of purchasing my 2014 Impala so I took car back and the dealer took it to chevy to fix the recall but I was told that they're to many miles on my vehicle. This issue needs to be fixed because I'm within my 15days if used vehicle warranty and if this issue continues this could cause other issues as I have read due to reviews on this issue. Because now it becomes a bigger issue and could cause lawsuits due to being not covered and with being out of the mileage coverage period could really destroy a company because it's just not safe. I would like more information and how this could be fixed because this is a new purchase and I haven't even had the vehicle 5 days and if this vehicle starts a electrical fire/ problem it becomes a bigger issue can you please fix my issue and make exceptions to this recall mess.

The truck is filling up with water and causing a mildew smell in the car from the water gettingnstale. ## #vpic# 1 - check digit (9th position) does not calculate properly; 4 - VIN corrected, error in one position only (indicated by ! in suggested VIN), multiple matches found; 14 - unable to provide information for all the characters in the VIN. #vpic#.

I have a leak in the trunk that chevy sent out customer action on but they left my car out of this recall. The tail lamp gasket was not installed properly and the dealer are to fix this per letter. The letter expired in 2016 but I was never informed. I started getting water in the trunk took it in and they wanted to charge me telling me its a very common occurence on this vehicle.

Mileage: 89000 customer received a letter from gm stating an extended warranty is now available regarding the side blind zone detection system error that displays over the entire dash display panel. The warranty was extended to 6 years from the date vehicle was placed in service and 80,000 miles. Many of the vehicles affected by this are experiencing this issue at just over 80,000 miles or have gone past 80,000 miles due to gm's lack of a timely response to this issue that has affected several people. The service side detection message appears upon starting the vehicle and remains to block the digital info center until it is dismissed by the driver who has to move the thumb to press the button. This message also re-appears after driving for several miles causing the driver to look away from the road to acknowledge the alert. The rear side detection modules were placed behind the rear wheels and collect water, dust, dirt, and debris causing failure. Gm should redesign this housing to better protect the modules in the future.

I noticed water/dampness on two locations of my 2014 Chevrolet Impala (while it is stationary) 1. Floor carpet on passenger side front seat is thoroughly wet (see attached photos), with the dampness extending to the rear seats. 2. Inside the trunk in area behind the rear wheel. Took the car to the dealership and they advised I would have to pay for diagnosis as well as repair. This is a manufacturing defect that may have resulted in damage to the interior carpet, structural panels - floor (possible rust). Gm customer service nor the dealership is willing to absorb the cost and expects my (consumer to pay).

Side mirror blind spot alert system has failed for the third time. I had replaced it twice so far costing $400 each time. It says the system needs " maintanence".

I live in howard beach, nyc and saw an odd thing on line involving a nypd 106 which is our local precinct there where one of their Chevrolet models there had a like mechanical malfunction and it exploded there. It was so close to that thing in 1996 with twa flight 800 there remember that? besides that, they had photos on google photos of the nypd 106 car there all exploded and parked by the curb with the cause a mechanical malfunction like remember twa flight 800 in 1996 there with the plane there the mechanical malfunction made the plane explode there. Yes, I hope this does not continue. There is a photo of it on google pictures.
