4 Accelerator Pedal Sensor problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 01/30/2016

While driving any speed, "reduced engine power" light comes on. Happened 3 times and then I received a letter from gm took to dealership for repair. They repaired throttle body. Car still acted the same after I got it. Due to snow storm I didn't drive it a few days. Two weeks later, engine power reduced starts again on the highway going 70mph (this has happened 6 times altogether) now gm advised me to go back to dealership for diagnostic test. They claim it's the gas pedal sensor ans not covered. Replacing the throttle body did not ing to fix the issue and many others have has this same issue. Now gm refuses to make it right and I'm stuck without a vehicle because I can't afford repairs and the car is way too dangerous to drive.

5 Accelerator Pedal Sensor problem of the 2009 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 12/14/2015

My car was taken into the dealer to check on the "service engine soon" warning and I was informed that the computer showed it as an apps issue. They checked the apps and I was informed that they couldn't find anything wrong and that it had been reset within the computer system and I was good to go. Two months later while traveling at a speed of 55 mph on a highway, the service engine light came on, service stabilitrak appeared on the instrument panel, traction control off light up on the instrument panel and then the ring tone and the "engine power is reduced" came on the instrument panel. The next thing I knew was that I had absolutely no acceleration at all! I was extremely fortunate that the vehicles behind me were far enough behind me and I was able to get off of the road and on to the shoulder. Had that not been the case there could have been a serious accident causing numerous individuals to be injured or killed. I had the vehicle towed and checked and it was definitely the apps (accelerator pedal performance sensor) that was defective. Now nearly 2 years later, it has happened again. The exact same warnings came on again, only this time I was traveling in inclement weather and during rush hour traffic. There are numerous complaints regarding the exact same issue and Chevrolet/gm needs to issue a recall as the apps is defective. If no recall is issued it is a matter of time before innocent people are killed.

6 Accelerator Pedal Sensor problem of the 2009 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 11/29/2015

My name is james barr and I purchased a 2009 chevy Impala, with 123,000 miles on it, in August 2015 from mac churchill auto mall in bedford, texas. I have had no problems with this car since its purchase until November 29th. While en route to emory, texas, my car started displaying "engine power is reduced" and "service traction control" messages. About 99% of the way there, I suddenly got a lurch and my car slowed down, with steering and braking not working. I was able to get my car off the highway safely but had to use my emergency brake to stop my vehicle and get it turned off. I tried repeatedly for several minutes to get it going again, but it would not start. After about five minutes, the car restarted normally and has performed flawlessly since. However, I am concerned. I've had a garage pull and diagnose the problem. The error codes that were pulled are p2122 and p2138 ,regarding the accelerator pedal position sensor. I've researched this and this appears to be a common problem from what I've been able to ascertain from my research. . Read more...

It traveled across the street, jumped a curb and hit a parked vehicle in the driveway causing damage to both vehicles. The dealer claimed there was nothing wrong with the accelerator. However, the accident was caused by a sticky throttle. When the second accident occurred, the consumer was attempting to back the vehicle up, but instead it accelerated backwards at a high rate of speed making a high pitch whining noise. The consumer quickly applied the brake. However, it not reduce the speed. The consumer hit an oak tree, and in doing so, caused the tree to fall on the vehicle. The vehicle was totaled. 10 Accelerator Pedal Sensor problem of the 2011 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 02/09/2015

I was driving on a highway going approximately 55 mph, the engine light, stability control light, and reduced engine power light came on at the same time. Within two (2) minutes of the dash warning lights coming on, the car completely shut it self off while I was driving in the left lane going 55 mph. I lost steering, had no power, or braking. I threw the car in neutral, in an attempt to get it started it while I was in motion with no power. The Impala didn't even try to turn over. The car wasn't responding because the power steering / braking was not responding. The Impala went into "limp mode" without warning. I let the car cost for a while until I could find a safe spot to apply the emergency brake. I really had to muscle the steering wheel with some significant force to get it to turn. I have never had any problems with this vehicle before this issue. It turns out that the "pedalassembly" gas pedal sensor went bad, causing the 2011 Impala to go into "limp mode" while I was driving.

11 Accelerator Pedal Sensor problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 06/20/2014

Service traction control/engine power reduced lights came on dash. Car lost all power and when stomping the gas pedal speed would resume, very hesitant from a dead stop. Car was jerking, shut off traction control and car jerked then too. Gm needs to fix this before there are deaths. Also I have no unlocking doors. They have to all be manually unlocked. Battery was replaced in car and on key fab. Gas pedal sensor and throttle body sensor are the triggered codes, gm needs to find the real solution as these don't seem to fix problem.

12 Accelerator Pedal Sensor problem of the 2009 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 06/11/2014

Last night, I started up my car and immediately the car started to shudder pretty hard. My car started chiming and a service traction control showed up on my dash, followed by an engine power reduced. The light indicator for my tc was lit. I immediately turned the car off and tried to restart it. The same thing happened again. I turned it off and waited 2 minutes before restarting. It started fine, with no bad indications. The car also drove normally. A few hours later as I was starting home, it happened again. My car was still parked as before when the indications showed up. Shut off and restarted and it cleared out. No problem once I started driving. This morning was no different. So far, this only has happened when I was starting my car up. I have been fortunate that this hasn't happened to me while the car was in motion- yet. Other people with this problem haven't been so fortunate. There has been no bad weather at all. Dry as a bone. I bought this car in 2010 knowing it used to be a rental. I have had no problems with it until now. I took my car into my chevy dealership, who thought it might be the throttle body sensor. They are ordering the part in, but I'm still skeptical if that is really what is causing it. I have heard the sensor on the hub assembly could cause this, as well as the accelerator pedal sensor. From reading multiple forums, many owners have had scary experiences with the car decelerating on freeways or other dangerous places that could result in wrecks and personal harm. They had taken their cars in multiple times and shelled out thousands trying to fix this phantom ghost problem. Frankly I am amazed there has been no recall for this. I am moving to CA, and I'm driving there by myself in less than two weeks. I can't have my car try to do me in right now, nor do I have endless amounts of cash to fix a mech's guess. Warranty does not cover this.

13 Accelerator Pedal Sensor problem of the 2010 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 06/03/2014

Traction control light and engine reduce speed light came on and car started stutter and slow down on the highway. Replace throttle body twice and replace gas pedal sensor.

14 Accelerator Pedal Sensor problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 05/09/2014

Our 2008 Impala LS, with 100,000 miles, is having the same problem I am seeing at this web site and all across the internet. Last month, may, 2014, and this month, June, 2014, there was a sudden reduced power alert on the dashboard and the check engine light came on. The speed immediately dropped to no more than 35 mph. Before I could get it to advance to have them check to see if any codes had been dropped by the computer, the check engine light went off. There was no reduced power message either, and the speed returned to normal. I was told to try fuel injector cleaner, which I did. All went well for almost a month, when the same thing happened again this month. This time I was able to get it to advance with the check engine light still on. The computer had dropped 2 codes, both related to the accelerator pedal position sensor. Advance did not have the part, nor did autozone. Fortunately, napa did, for $90, including tax. Our local chevy dealership wanted $50 more. Since it is a very easy part to replace even for an amateur like me, I replaced it. There are only 2 10 mm bolts to remove and an electrical connection to unplug. So it was pretty simple, and so far, this has done the trick, but it's only been 24 hours. This apparently is a job that the dealerships want to charge $300 to $400 to do. As I said, this is a widespread problem for gm, and they have not and will not, so far, do a recall. They should. I'm only out $90 so far, but other people are out much more. If I have the dreaded, follow-up problem with the the throttle body, I will be out a whole lot more. I sent an e-mail to Chevrolet after the first instance, and did get a response back. I told him I didn't want to take any further action unless this happens again. I will be contacting him again now about this latest incident.

15 Accelerator Pedal Sensor problem of the 2010 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 04/09/2014

While driving northbound on I-75 in southern ky, the car suddenly lurched a little and "traction control" and "stabilization" errors displayed followed by "reducing power. " and, the check engine light came on. I called my chevy dealer and asked if it was safe to continue driving - they said yes, as long as the check engine light wasn't flashing. We went about 5 - 10 more miles and the display flashed something about throttle problem and then "shutting down engine", which it did immediately with no warning while we were doing about 70 - 75mph in the middle of the 3 northbound lanes of I-75. I had to try to steer to the shoulder with no power steering or brakes. Once there, I tried to restart the car and nothing happened - it displayed "starter disabled. " we called our road service and they took our info, found the nearest chevy dealer who said they could work on it ASAP if we got it in there. While they were working on setting up a tow I tried starting it again. It started but the check engine was still on. I tried driving a little along the shoulder and it seemed ok so I said we'd try driving to the dealer rather than wait for a tow truck. We made it. They got on it fairly quickly and found the problem was the gas pedal position sensor. We were fortunate that the traffic was light and I could safely pull off. I hate to think what the results would have been if this had happened earlier as we were travelling thru atlanta with its 6 lanes of heavy traffic. Suddenly losing power and control in that traffic would probably have caused one of those multi-vehicle accidents that make the national news. What kind of incompetent programming of the car's computer would trigger a full, instant shutdown because of a faulty accelerator pedal position sensor? I would suggest an immediate recall to re-flash the computer to eliminate the no-warning shut down.

16 Accelerator Pedal Sensor problem of the 2010 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 03/05/2014

The contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Impala. The contact stated that the reduced engine power warning lamp and the service stability traction control warning lamp illuminated. 18 Accelerator Pedal Sensor problem of the 2010 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 09/04/2013

My wife was driving on interstate and all of a sudden lights start flashing on dash board saying traction control, engine performance reduced and check engine light comes on. Car completely shuts down on major highway. Gm needs to do something!!!! before someone seriuosly gets hurt or worse. Went to auto shop and they said it is the accelerator pedal sensor gone bad already at 56,103 ? I just bought the car, and only had it for 1 year. I will never buy anything gm makes or recommended there vehicles to family or friends this is ridiculous. Someone needs to care about public safety because obviously they do not. Please do a recall and save a life !!!!!.

22 Accelerator Pedal Sensor problem of the 2009 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 04/20/2013

While driving on the highway at approximately 70 mph the car began to lose acceleration and dropped all the way down to 40 mph. The check engine light, service traction control, service stabilitrak, and reduced engine power message displayed as well. The car began shaking and would not accelerate. I had to pull off to the side of the highway and turn the car off to try and get the issue to subside. Once back on the road, not more than 3 miles later the issue surfaced again. I ended up having to get off the highway and drive (very slowly) back to my house. Not sure if it will be safe to drive back to the dealership to be addressed. I have replaced the wheel hubs and throttle pedal sensor in the past few years in an attempt to correct. This was an intermittent issue until recently and even after having it fixed by a certified Chevrolet dealership, the issue occurred again. This most recent incident could have ended in serious injury had I not been lucky enough to not have any cars immediately around me. With the amount of consistent complaints about this particular issue with this particular model of car I hope it can be addressed.

23 Accelerator Pedal Sensor problem of the 2009 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 04/10/2013

I was driving 55mph 4/10/2013 then I go down to 40 and message sensor says engine low pressure or something like that so I took it to auto zone and they said throttle sensor make the check engine light come on now 4/27/2013 the light came on again now they saying the pedal sensor and the low engine pressure check engine light is on again.

25 Accelerator Pedal Sensor problem of the 2009 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 02/12/2013

I have a 2009 chevy Impala lt & was driving aproximately 50mph down the road when all of a sudden the "service traction control message came on, the check engine light came on & engine power will be reduced message came on". The cars speed dropped down to about 40mph & would hardly go. I didn't know what was going on. It really scared me because I thought my car was going to cut off. I did get to work safely but I am terrified to drive this car. I searched message boards on the internet & came across 297 messages from other people who own gm vehicles that this has happened to. A couple of people said their cars actually cut off on them while going down the highway at a high rate of speed. One was involved in an accident. The problem from what I have read has something to do with the accelerator pedal position sensor or throttle body. From what I have read gm knows about this problem but has not done a recall on this. A couple of people posted that their local chevy dealership covered the repair even though their cars were no longer under warranty. I called my local chevy dealership and they told me that they couldn't do anything about it. They said that I would have to pay for repairs myself. To me, this is unacceptable. I could have a wreck & get killed or kill someone else. I don't understand why a company would clearly know about a problem with their vehicles and do nothing about it. I think that gm should cover the repairs to my vehicle and to any others that are having this problem.

26 Accelerator Pedal Sensor problem of the 2010 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 12/28/2012

Driving home Friday night 12/26/12 on cruise set at 65, bang, car dropped power drastically, kicked off cruise, and the three rotating messages appeared on dash, 1)service stabilitrak, 2)service traction control, & 3)engine power reduced. Both orange placards lit up on dash, service engine and traction. Pulled out of traffic and re started the car. Was able to drive at normal speeds but codes still rotating and placards still lit. Couldn't get it into the shop until Monday 12/31/12. When I started it up to take it in, codes were all cleared and car ran just fine. Dealership told me it was the pedal sensor and would cost me $275 to repair. How can we get gm to do a recall on this on going issue? this is a 2010 chevy Impala lt with 45000 on it. This repair should be covered under warranty and I was told it is not. There have been numerous individuals with this same sensor failing at about 45000 miles. A sudden drop in power to a speed of 25 while driving at highway speeds is very dangerous. It is amazing with as many failures as have been reported to gm on just the edmunds car form site alone that there have not been any serious crashes. Please take a good look at this issue and see if you can't get gm to recall these sensors and get them replaced with better ones.

27 Accelerator Pedal Sensor problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 12/19/2012

I was going down the road and out of no where my car says service traction control, followed by service stabilitrak, followed by engine power reduced with a check engine light on. Lost almost all power to the car, could barely turn the wheel and the brakes felt extremely strange. I could only go about 5mph tops down the road. Luckily I was only 2 min from home. Which actually took 6 min because of the reduced engine speed. Right before I pulled in the driveway the motor died. The next day I went out and tried starting it. The remote start wasn't working and my check engine light was still on but it did start up with a turn of the key. I looked up codes and found that it was telling me the accelerator pedal sensor was bad. I have googled this issue and found that it is a very dangerous, common problem with the chevy Impala. Although that is the code it is giving me, other people have had to replace their throttle body to resolve the problem. Gm should recall it before someone gets hurt. I will not be buying another gm vehicle in the future because they are too cheap to fix this common issue which could essentially cost someone their life.

28 Accelerator Pedal Sensor problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 11/03/2012

I own a 2008 Chevrolet Impala. Today 11/03/2012 while driving to work the check engine light came on with a message indicating "engine power reduced". I researched the issue and discovered the accelerator pedal sensor is malfunctioning and this causes the message and check engine to appear. This sensor affects the cars drivability and causes limited speed in the vehicle. I looked on google and there are several complaints regarding the same issue. I guess no one has reported it but it seems very common amongst Chevrolet Impala model cars 2006 and up. . Read more...

29 Accelerator Pedal Sensor problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 08/06/2012

My in-laws were driving their car when suddenly the accelerator pedal was unresponsive. Luckily, they were not injured but were able to coast to a stop. They were towed to a service center where the accelerator pedal position sensor was replaced. Total cost was $317. 41. Part number 25830023 I retrieved this part and opened it up. I was startled to find that parts of the circuit board were never soldered. I am a licensed master electrician, have an aas degree in electronics technology and as a hobby have been doing automotive repair for 45 years. This part should never have left the factory. I contacted gm and they simply said the part is not on our recall list so we will not reimburse you or look into this any further. I have the part. I'm guessing there could be many more just like this. My in-laws are 80 and I'm pursuing this for them. They have sold this car. Thanks.

30 Accelerator Pedal Sensor problem of the 2009 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 07/01/2012

I have a 2009 Chevrolet Impala that I purchased in 2010. Several months later, the car began to read check engine, service traction control, reduced engine power, then stalls and jerks while I'm driving. It happens intermittently. I took it to autozone to have them check the computer code. They said it was the accelerator pedal position sensor. The car only has about 50,000 miles on it. I am planning o taking it to the dealership because it is happening more often and I am afraid that I will have an accident as a result of this problem.

31 Accelerator Pedal Sensor problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 06/11/2012

I currently drive a 2008 chevy Impala, I've only had the car 1 1/2 and not even a year after I purchased it, I start experiencing the (tcs) traction control sensor - which alternatively reduce the speed of the engine; it happens sporadically,. . . I took it to auto zone to have a diagnostic performed on the car, and they reader said it was due to a cylinder 5 misfire. . . . My car is a 6 cylinder, it is dangerous when driving on the highway as when the (tcs) does come on' the reduce engine speed is well under the highway speed limit. Other concerns that arise is that sense this sensor has been own, it' has accumulated other sensors' (abs) (!) and the throttle pedal sensor. I have reached out to the gm to see if there was any recall on this, and was advise that nothing has been done. I think this is a huge danger, as this is a commonly used car in the u. S & if there has been several complaints thus far over the same issue, why hasn't anything been done to resolve the issue? what if you've worked hard to drive the vehicle you want;& have to pay out of cost; other than basic maintenance?.

34 Accelerator Pedal Sensor problem of the 2009 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 06/02/2010

I bought a 2009 chevy Impala with 35k miles on and not even a month after I bought it I started having problems with the traction control on acceleration and sometimes on braking. . . I see with all the internet complaints that this is a wide spread problem that gm seems to be putting off. . I have contacted gm and they told me the same thing as every other complaint take to dealer and spend over $100 just to get it looked at and the dealers say the same 3 things as all other complaints it could be three things. . Gas pedal sensor, brake pedal sensor, or the sensor on the hub assembly. . . Hmmmmmmmmmmm gm help. . . Ps after I got mad on phone gm agreed to pay a mere $90 of the bill which is gonna cost over $300 to fix. . . .
