Blind spot detection system began to fail, indicated by the side mirror indicators remaining on even after the car was shut off. Dealer service center diagnostic test showed the battery was old. The problem progressed to the point where the instrument cluster would also fail - all instruments (speedometer, tachometer, etc. ) would go dead, virtually all warning lights (traction control, abs, air bag, etc. ) would go on, heating system (including blower) would go dead and turn signals and hazard light would be inoperative. All of this would happen while driving, whether in city traffic or at highway speeds. Although the main operation of the vehicle has not yet been affected, there is no way to signal other drivers of a problem (no hazard light or turn signals) in the event of a larger failure. Research of online customer forums shows that this problem is common with the latest generation (2014 and newer) Impala. The blind spot detection system is connected to the instrument cluster and this occurs randomly while driving.

I was merging and exiting off the expressway on my way to work and went to use my turn signal and it quit working. Upon arriving at work I tried it again and nothing. . . I then tried my other turn signal and hazard light also and they didn't work either. I do alot of expressway driving to different cities due to my job of which I have to change lanes and merge and turn quite frequently so this is a major concern with my turn signals and flasher not working.

I have had issues with lights for the past 6 months. First started out where if I had my bright lights on every now and again all my lights would go off while driving. The bright lights wouldn't stay on so had to hold to keep them on. Then it came a period of time where all my lights would not work. On Friday, June 27th 2014, I was at work and happened to look out the window and noticed my lights were on. Went outside to see if car was dead. When I got in the car I could see that my steering column was smoking (on fire) coming from the turn signal switch. The bright lights had stuck to on somehow and this is why I could see that my llights were on. I unhooked the battery and the smoking stopped. When I went to hook battery back up there wasn't any more smoking but my windshield wipers were going as fast as they could and I couldn't switch or do anything to make them stop. The hazards or all my lights were blinking on/off repeatedly. Nothing I could do to stop. As of now I'm driving without any fuse to the wipers and the lights work during the daytime but will not work at all after dark. I've been told the part that is needed to replace this is a multi-functional switch. However, this is going to cost $800 to replace. Many complaints out there about the same thing happening to same year/make/model car and no recall??.
The turn signals stop working for no reason. Both right and left turn signals will just not work. I found a temporary fix on a car forum on the web. If you turn the hazard light switch on and off a few times then the turn signals will work again for awhile. At first it happened only occasionally. Now it is happening on a daily basis. And you don't find out until you are going to make a turn or switch lanes on the highway. I found so many complaints about this problem on the car forums to indicate to me that mine is not an isolated problem. This is the second electrical complaint I've had to make on this car. The other problem was with the speedometer and other gauges not functioning which required a very expensive fix.

The turn signal on my 2001 chevy Impala intermittently does not work. This is a very serious problem, can cause accidents when driving. This problem is the same as the recall on the chevy malibu listed below, recall id # 03v327000 - exterior lighting:hazard flashing warning lights:switch. Please add this recall to the chevy Impala before many serious accidents occur.

The turn signals and hazard lights on my 2000 Impala do not work all the time. The problem has been getting progressively worse. The turn signals may work about 40% of the time. When they do work they may just quit w/o warning. This is a serious safety concern that needs to be address. When the problem first started to occur, I could turn on the hazards and this would jump start the blinkers and they would work for a while. This no longer works, both the hazards and the turn signals are intermittent. I am not the only Impala owner to experience this problem. This appear to be a wide spread defect with the Impalas. This problem is similar to the following existing vehicle recall for the 2000 Chevrolet malibu. . . Campaign number: 03v327000 date: 2003-Aug-28 . Why was this considered a great enough safety hazard to warrant a recall on the malibu but not on the Impala. Please investigate this is a serious hazard and needs to be recalled. Model year 2000 make: chevy model: Impala eng: 3. 4 v6.
The contact owns a 2003 Chevrolet Impala. While driving various speeds at night, the headlights shut off and do not illuminate again. As a result, the contact must activate the hazard lights. For the past three months, she has not driven at night due to the failure. The vehicle has not been diagnosed by the dealer. The failure mileage was 87,000.
I have a 2002 Chevrolet Impala LS. Bought used in 2005 had 72,000 miles. It now has 89,800 miles. Since I have had the vehicle I have had to replace the bcm module, rebuilt transmission, replace the pcm module, replace all four rotors along with brake pads all around, and now my left turn signal has stopped working intermittently. The right turn signal works fine. When the left turn signal is working the hazards work fine as well, but when the left isn't neither does the hazard lights. Along with the problem it disengages the traction control, which therefore disengages the cruise control. I read on a forum that replacing the hazard switch will fix this problem however not my case. I have been told to replace the turn signal module, but the part is 299. 99 plus labor or the dealership told me they could troubleshoot the problem, but at astronomical labor charges. From all the forums I've read and my own problems the 2000-2002 Impalas are nothing, but garbage! this will be my last american made car! very very disappointed Chevrolet customer.

No events leading up to the failure. Hazard lights sometimes stop working along with the turn signals pressing the hazard light switch will sometimes correct the issue.
The contact owns a 2001 Chevrolet Impala. While at a red light, the contact attempted to activate the turn signal switch and it failed to operate. He believed that the bulbs or the fuse needed to be replaced; however, they were operable. The turn signal switch would not operate unless the contact turned the hazard light switch on and off. There were no warning lights illuminated on the instrument panel. The failure mileage was 90,500 and current mileage was 91,100.
Suddenly blinker lights would not work, if you move or use the hazard light switch the blinker lights will start to work, sometimes. You have to constantly jiggle or move the hazard light switch for the blinker lights to work.
The turn signals and hazard lights no longer blink when turned on. The bulbs light up but do not blink on and off.
I have a 2002 Impala and the same problem as everyone else. My blinkers will randomly stop working. When I push the hazard lights on and off 3 or 4 times the blinkers start to work again.
Problems with the directional signals which work intermittenly.
