1 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 1998 Chevrolet K1500

Failure Date: 04/14/2010

My 1998 Chevrolet silverado K1500 had a total front brake rotor failure in which the hub of the rotor detached from the rotor itself, resulting in a total loss of braking on the front right side. This was the factory rotor. Any stops resulted in pulling to the left, heavy braking caused extreme moving of the vehicle to the left. I repaired by replacing the rotors and brake pads on the front.

2 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2002 Chevrolet K1500

Failure Date: 02/01/2008

I have a 2002 Chevrolet silverado truck. The truck only has 28,000 miles on it and recently began making grinding noises. I took it to century Chevrolet and was told that all 4 rotors and pads need to be replaced. With only 38,000 miles on the truck that seemed crazy. When I questioned this they told me that they hardly ever see this brake problem happening and it's because I don't drive the truck enough so it's rusted out the parts. Rusty parts in colorado is another thing that didn't make sense. They could only do the front brake repair because of my camper so they replaced the front rotors and pads for a little over $400. I started checking around about the brakes and discovered on the internet that there were many similar stories from other silverado owners. There is a large number of people who own these vehicles with parts that just deteriorate. Chevrolet continues to deny that it's defective parts and instead tells people that it's their fault for not using the brakes enough. We use this truck mostly in the summer for camping and traveling but do drive it in the winter so I?m unsure what is considered the proper amount of ?braking? time. The dealer couldn?t give me an answer on that question. This is happening to a lot of other people and they should be warned that part of the maintenance on this vehicle is $1,000 brake job every $25,000 miles or you won't have any brakes. Thank you for your time.

3 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 1997 Chevrolet K1500

Failure Date: 10/27/2005

In the past year I have noticed a hard braking situation at low speeds in which it felt like the anti- lock was kicking in even though it would be uncalled for. Today, I pulled up to a stop sign and I pushed on the pedal with all my might and still drifted into on coming traffic who luckily was able to maneuver around me since I ended up in their lane. My pads, fluid and rotors are all good. I will be taking it to a gm dealer tomorrow for this problem since it has been occurring regularly and now nearly caused an accident.

5 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 1998 Chevrolet K1500

Failure Date: 04/28/1999

With only 20000 miles of light driving (no pulling conditions), the front pads were worn to the point needing replacement. The dealer admitted that they have seen pads wear out on my vehicle at 15000 miles in some cases. This, to me and every mechanic I've spoken to, seems extremely excessive.

6 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 1998 Chevrolet K1500

Failure Date: 01/20/1999

The abs brakes feels spongy. Have no pressure. The pedal goes close to floor when applied. Vehicle would fail to stop. Has been to dealer at least 8 times for abs brakes. Had the pads changed about every 3,000-5,000 miles. The problem with abs brakes has not been fixed.

7 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 1997 Chevrolet K1500

Failure Date: 07/29/1998

Vehicle is wearing out brake pads too soon for normal wear at 28000 miles. Dealer informed consumer that they are aware of problem but nothing could be done at this time. Consumer was charged for repair and service. Consumer states there is noise in the rear axle area while traveling over bumps, dealer unable to locate rattle.
