Brake Electric Antilock Problems of Chevrolet K1500 - part 1

When traveling at a low rate of speed and attempting to brake the abs brake system engages and does not allow me to stop when necessary. This happens every time I try to stop at a low rate of speed. This was corrected once by recall number 05v379000, however the problem has not been permanently fixed and we are in danger every time we drive the vehicle.

My 1999 chevy c/k pickup fails to stop quickly when traveling at low speeds. The abs turns on preventing the vehicle from stopping as you apply extreme pressure to the brake pedal. I am told by two separate mechanics that this is a common problem on similar models which have been recalled (NHTSA campaign # 05v379000) when contacting Chevrolet they say their is nothing they can do as the recall does not include my vehicle by VIN number even if it is the same part with the problem.

97 chevy K1500 abs false activation. Dealers response was there is no known problem and is not a warranty issue. Refused to investigate without payment. Abs activates at slow speed and when brakes are not applied at all. Caused minor collision which was not reported.

The anti-lock brakes come on at 6 mph regardless of road conditions. This makes the truck harder to stop at low speeds because the brake pedal automatically pumps.

Anti-lock brakes on 1997 Chevrolet K1500 activating at low speeds - just started. This is on a truck 2 years older than currently being recalled in other states.

While exiting a ramp in lexington, ky, the antilock braking system on my pick-up failed, resulting in my truck not being able to stop. This resulted in my truck entering on-coming traffic and caused an non-injury accident. My family was present in the vehicle, including my 3 year old son. The truck was able to make it home, and is preparing to be repaired. The braking system continues to mal-function without warning, reducing or eliminating the ability to stop the vehicle. The anti-lock system kicks in constantly, and when this happens, the truck will not immediately stop.

Anti-lock brakes activate at low speed making it difficult to stop as anticipated at signs, etc. One is forced to push the brake pedal very hard to override the abs. Even when you do override the abs, the delay in stopping puts you past the crosswalk or parking space!.

When coming to complete stop brake pedal jumps up and down and abs motor runs, happens almost regular now.

There is a recall on the anti lock brakes . The contact's vehicle was not included in the recall due to the VIN. The brakes grab only at low speeds. I noticed in an edition of the minneapolis star-tribune and noticed the recall of the 1999-2002 model years of the Chevrolet silverado pick-ups with the anti-lock brake system with the abs engaging at speeds of 4 to 11 mph and have been experiencing the same problem with my 1998 Chevrolet silverado pick-up truck. Would my truck be eligible for this recall or not??.

My 1999 silverado pickup truck is having braking trouble where the abs system kicks on during normal dry conditions. It has caused me to have some near misses while trying to stop the vehicle.

On the driver's side the front tire, rim, brakes, and hub fell off the car. The police said they had seen other vehicles where the same thing happened.

When road conditions are wet, the rear brakes on my truck lock-up as the vehicle is coming to a stop. This is a dangerous condition, as it interferes with my ability to control the vehicle during wet conditions. Additionally, when I accelarate from the stop, the rear breaks release with a loud clunking sound. The problem has occurred in the past after going through a car wash, however, the problem did not persist since the wheather conditions at those times were dry. In the last incident, however, the problem persisted since the wheather was rainy and the roads were wet. I am very concerned regarding this problem.

The contact owns a 1998 Chevrolet K1500. While driving 10 mph when the brakes engaged, the contact stated the brake pedal was resistant and failed to engage. He had to apply extreme force to the brake pedal in order for them to engage, increasing stopping distance and time. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 70,000 and the current mileage was 82,000. Updated 06/17/10. I have a 1997 4wd chevy pickup with 4 wheel abs. When coming to a stop, just before the vehicle actually comes to a complete stop, the abs activates, the brake pedal goes to the floor, and the truck surges forward another few feet. This happens on dry pavement! there is no reason for the abs to activate and this causes a dangerous situation with the unpredictable surge forward of the vehicle. I have researched this problem on the internet and found tons of others with the same problem. Yahoo search: "abs activates on dry pavement" revealed thousands of hits of consumers with the same problem. Because it is related to brakes, I believe there is a serious safety risk to consumers and gm should recall the defect. This happens everyday and is very noticeable. I leave extra space while braking until I am able to get this fixed.

Anti-lock brakes- they are activating at low speeds making stopping distance much longer, they also activate when hitting bumps in the road. During ran and snowy time they are activating almost constantly. Can't afford the cost to replace.

Consumer states: when he uses the vehicle in the winter and applies the brakes, he has no idea where the truck is going to go. When he tries to turn it slides right across the road.

After turning vehicle off, abs motor continued to run. Contacted dealer who took fuse out. Consumer now does not have abs on vehicle. Consumer feels the part failed too soon. Consumer was informed that the abs motor won't shut off unless the fuse is pulled or the battery runs down. There is a chance of fire and the brakes are inoperable when failure occurs.

Consumer stated that when the computer that controls the abs goes out, the abs pump continues running, to disable it consumer has to either disconnect the pump or the battery, if this is not done consumer stated it may result in a fire.

My abs brake system comes on under 10mph during normal braking. There is no panic stop involved during the normal braking event. This situation is becoming very troublesome and I'm worried as to whether I'll be able to pull my travel trailer.

The abs pump started running when I started the truck the only way to get it to stop is to pull the fuse. The power window on driverside will go down a little then stop, you have to keep pushing on the button to get it all the way down which takes a lot of time, same way when you go to put it back up. The throttle sticks when you go to accelerate, did it a little new now does it a lot. I have contacted gm they said that the truck is to old know for them to do anything about it. I have heard that other owners have had the same problems but theres occured while under warranty.

While driving could step on the brakes pedal then vehicle will start vibrating from front of vehicle. Front brakes had been replaced twice already, and currently needed to be replaced for third time. Please provide more information.
