As I was pulling out of a parking spot all of a sudden I lost power steering and the power steering warning light came on. I turned off the car and turned it back on and the power steering worked so I straightened it out and took another car.
My wife was driving her 2008 Malibu when power steering and service esc lights came on the dash. She lost all power steering and had to pull off the highway. When she turned off her car and turned it back on everything worked normal. Five minutes later this same thing happened again. It seems to happen often now but the lights are all off when we take it to get it scanned. This problem was included in a recall for certain VIN numbers of this vehicle but ours was not included for some reason.
My 2009 chevy Malibu has lost power steering three times in the last year and a half. I each time, I took it to the dealer to be "fixed", but even after they said it was fixed the first and second time, it happened again. The first and third time it happened, I was on a busy road traveling at 50 miles per hour and driving straight. The second time it happened, I was driving about 10 miles per hour, and going around a corner. I almost collided with a tree because I could not complete the turn. When the car loses power steering, I absolutely cannot turn the wheel. This has placed me in very dangerous situations. The car is under 150,000 miles, so it qualifies for the special warranty, but it is approaching the limit, and the dealership indicated that if it happens after 150,000 miles, I will have to pay for the repair. I am concerned that I have had it "fixed" three times and it continues to happen. I have two small children, and it has lost power steering while they are in the car with me.
The contact owns a 2008 Chevrolet Malibu. While driving various speeds, the steering wheel shook intermittently. In addition, the power steering warning sensor chimed and illuminated intermittently and the steering wheel tightened up. The contact never completely lost power steering ability. The dealer and manufacturer were not contacted or made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 62,000.
The contact owns a 2008 Chevrolet Malibu. While driving 40 mph, there was an abnormal vibration coming from the steering wheel. The power steering warning light illuminated and the vehicle lost power steering. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the eps motor control unit needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired per NHTSA campaign number: 15v153000 (steering); however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 94,111.
Power steering loses power steering control intermittently. Took it to chevy dealer and they told me the steering module is defective. Car is only 6 years old with only 38k miles on it. Loss of power steering control can happen when car is either stationary or in motion.
Car lost power steering and power steering light flashed. Had to manually turn and it was very difficult to maneuver. Steering wheel had also started to shake or vibrate even when sitting in park. The steering wheel would also move to the left and right, turning a little bit on its own while parked and running. I took the vehicle to the dealership and they replaced the power steering module, under special policy 101830p. This same thing was done in sept 2012. When I got my vehicle back from the dealership, it still was losing power steering and the light would come on. I took it back to the dealership and this time they stated that it was the steering torque sensor that had internal failure. This would be almost $600 to fix and there was also a diagnostic fee of $96. I contacted gm, because there were 1. 3 mil vehicles recalled for same issue. I was told that even though it includes the 2008 Malibu (which is what I have),my VIN number was not included. They contacted the dealership whom offered to give a 20% discount to do the repair. Gm themselves would not offer any assistance with the repair or diagnostic fee, due to the fact that my VIN number was not included. At this time, I am afraid to drive my vehicle because I am barely able to maneuver the steering to direct my vehicle to the side of the road when it loses the power steering. There is no way I would be able to at highway speeds nor quickly in an emergency.
While driving on the highway lost all power steering after fighting to get car off the road finally was able to stop vehicle turned off ignition had to park vehicle will not drive it until this problem is fixed contacted gm and was told this VIN was not covered under power steering recalls even though my vehicle is doing the same thing as the ones that are covered.
I lost power steering when I was driving on a semi curve while raining lightly. The car kept going to the left and I could not steer. I pressed brakes and car spun. I almost hit a sign on the opposite direction. Thank god nothing happened to me nor my son. There were no other cars involved either. There was a truck coming on the opposite direction but he stopped. Otherwise, we would have collided. I got on the ditch. I was able to get back on road and drive to nearest gm/Chevrolet dealership. They kept the car for 2 days and found out that the power steering motor control module had to be replaced for $703 including labor. There was a recall in canada for the same part (transport canada recall # 2012331: manufacturer recall number 12221) but as of now I have not found the recall in USA. Why??.
