Power steering failure has happened twice in the last two weeks. Get message on dash of electric power steering loss and that moment it's hard to turn the steering wheel. This happened while the vehicle was stationary. I see you have a recall for this but ive never received this repair. The recall number I have is n140115.
Power steering sensor kit failure, known issue on this gm model and there was a recall for this year model on this issue yet didn't cover this VIN number, it is my belief that the recall for this issue wasnt wide enough to include this VIN # part replacement p/n 23232310 $708. 73.
While driving on a city street the electric power steering failed. The vehicle could not be steered at low speeds preventing me from turning into my driveway. The dash lit up like a christmas tree and the power steering failure notice appeared. It is obvious that the prior recall was not large enough and did not cover the population of defective vehicles. Time for NHTSA and gm to expand the recall and eliminate this danger.
At approx. 140k miles, the eps module failed and caused the power steering to fail and the car immediately changed to manual steering while driving on the highway. The warning chime alerted me to the eps module failure. After getting to a safe area and turning the car off and back on, the eps resumed working for a breif period, only to fail again the same way. This occured multiple times over the next few days until even turning the car off and on again did nothing. The eps just will not engage now at all. Gm issued a recall for other 2008 Malibu's for this exactfailure but my VIN is not listed. I have heard/read about this exact issue from many other 2008 Malibu owners.
Electronic power steering failure. All of a sudden the message center beeped and gave message power steering and the steering wheel started jerking out of control and could hardly steer. Several times after restarting steering would work for awhile. There are recalls on other 2008 but I was told mine had a special warranty that ran out. I just recently bought the car and it isn't right that I would have to pay $1500 to fix this defect. It is a safety issue when all of a sudden your steering wheel jerks out of your hand and moves on its own.

Takata recall : my vehicle power steering went out during a sharp turn. . . . The aps light came on and power steering failed in turn while another vehicle was coming close behind. I was able to get pulled to side of road just in time, before being hit from behind. Power steering goes out continuously while driving. I have seen several other complaints about this, also recalls.
We have had two issues. First broken fuel pump spilling gas on top of the fuel tank this has been an issue with this type of vehicle but not this specific vehicle. Cost to repair 400 dollars. Issue two. Bad torque sensor on electric power steering column. Causing power steering failure at will. Major safety issue as well. Chevy told me this specific part was not part of an earlier recall. Cost to fix 622 dollars at chevy dealer. Power steering failure happened while driving on city streets in madison sd. Gas leaking issue was noticed by a strong smell of gasoline. We stopped driving until repair could be made. They are both recalll issues on the 08 Malibu. Talked to chevy. With no offer to cover repairs being made.

Electronic power steering assist system keeps failing. Recall was replace in early 2015 and again was in the dealer on 12/30/15 for the same problem with power steering failing. On 1/08/15 the power steering system yet again failed and this time this power steering failure caused the car to go into the ditch and through a barb wire feance. This has been a ongoing problem with my car and general motors does not seem to have some kind of fix or does not want to admit there car has this problem. I have the documents from the dealer where it was soposed to be fixed on 12/30/15.
The power steering failed in 2015 with 65,900 miles and was repaired at a Chevrolet dealer the car now has 94,000 miles on it and the power steering has failed again. According to gm this vehicle is not included in the thousands of vehicles that have been recalled for the same problem. They are replacing defective parts with the same. I contacted gm case#9-4978065207 and they said that it is normal wear and tear and that they would be of no assistance and that I would have to pay for the repair. The power steering fails while driving and you have to steer it manually over to the side of the road. This is an ongoing problem with these vehicles and gm should be held accountable and not be able to hide behind saying that your number vehicle is not included in the recall even though it is an identical problem. They told me that just because all these people have posted their similar problems on the internet that it doesn't mean its true. I guess all those people have nothing better to do than report imaginary problems with gm.
Power steering failure. Multiple occasions.
Power steering failure. Almost crashed while on the highway!!.
Frequently the electronic power steering system will fail. Because this system is electronic and not hydraulic the car cannot be steered safely and has resulted in extremely unsafe condition. The local Chevrolet dealership has verified the failure and advised me that the electronic power steering system torque sensor is the cause of the failure. General motors has a recall on this failure but it has three different repair procedures, the procedures are performed depending on the build date of the vehicle. Gm document # 102644 addresses the failure. Procedures # 14116 and 14117 include replacing the torque sensor. Procedure # 14118 only replaces the electronic power steering motor controller unit. Repair # 14118 is the repair gm performed on my car but it did not solve the complaint. I have spent hours on the phone with a gm customer rep. And she will not offer any assistance, I even agreed to pay for the labor if gm will cover the part but gm refused. In summary gm has recalled my car for this failure. Gm replaced a part on my car when they knew it was not going to repair my car. Gm now refuses to offer any assistance to properly repair this safety defect on my car. The dealership is harvey ellis motors and they have been very helpful in the diagnosis and asking gm for assistance but gm declined to assist them also.
I was driving and it did what it always does steering wheel shook and came up on information power steering failure but this time it didn't go back to normal steering and could not control. Got car home and afraid to drive again.
The contact owns a 2008 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 40 mph, the vehicle became hesitant to accelerate and stalled without warning. The vehicle was able to restart however, the power steering failed causing the steering wheel to seize. The problem recurred on multiple occasions. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 93,000.
I feel that I experienced the same power steering failure that affected other Malibus (and Chevrolets) and that my repair should have been covered under Chevrolet special bulletin #10183. However, something about my vehicle'¿¿s build kept my VIN from being included in the range for this extended coverage. I first experienced problems on February 13, 2014. My vehicle had 97,600 miles on it. After I started the vehicle, the car made a dinging sound and the words "¿¿power steering"¿ flashed on my radio information screen. I tried to drive a few feet but found I had no power steering assist. I had to stop and start the car a couple times before getting power steering back. On February 16, I experienced the same loss of power steering (audible ding, display read "¿¿power steering" and I had no power steering). After restarting, the assist returned. On February 19, power steering failed three times in the last two miles of my commute. Restarting the vehicle at a stoplight solved the problem twice. After the final failure that morning, I drove the rest of the way without power steering. That night, I was unable to keep power steering functioning and drove the 12 mile trip home without power steering. In addition, when stopped and while driving, my steering wheel would move by itself. This occurred randomly between February 13 and 19. The amount of movement varied from a rapid shake to up to a 1¿ inch swing from center. Took to Chevrolet dealer which diagnosed "traced to internal fault in steering column. Replaced steering column to correct. ".
The contact owns a 2008 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact stated while driving approximately 3 mph and making a left turn the power steering suddenly malfunctioned making the steering wheel difficult to turn. The contact turned the vehicle off and then restarted it and the steering defect was corrected. Throughout the day she restarted the vehicle and the power steering failed to function normally. The contact indicated the failure was diagnosed and repaired by the dealer. The contact was informed that the steering column was replaced which corrected the defect. The manufacturer was notified and no solution was offered. The failure mileage was 167,866.
The contact owns a 2008 Chevrolet Malibu. While driving about 5 mph, the power steering failed without warning. The vehicle was towed to a dealer for inspection and it was repaired. The contact was advised that the steering column needed to be replaced and the torque and steering sensor had to be recalibrated. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 76000. . . Updated 12-26-13 the consumer stated while turning out of a driveway, onto a busy street a message appeared on the dashboard that read power steering. It took two men to push the vehicle out of the middle of the road.
The contact owns a 2008 Chevrolet Malibu. While driving 30 mph, the power steering failed without warning. The vehicle was not taken to an independent mechanic or dealer for diagnosis. After turning the car on while still in park, the wheel would jerk from left to right by itself. Also occurred while driving at both low and high speeds. The power steering was failing without warning! it was particularly frightening at high speeds and would happen with no warning. This happened multiple times on many different occasions before the chime sounded and the words power steering appeared on my dash information. After bringing the car to the dealership they fixed it citing the problem as "code 0475 - power steering motor shorted internally, replaced power steering motor and set up new module". The total cost was $847. 87. After doing further research I found out that many 2008 Chevrolet Malibus had been recalled for the same exact issue. In two different recall letters released by gm it was stated "2008 model year Chevrolet Malibu. . . Equipped with electric power steering, may have a condition where there is a loss of power steering assist". The letter further stated "for 2008 model year vehicles, dealers will replace the power steering motor control module". Which is exactly what needed to be replaced on my vehicle as per my dealership receipt. The letter said "if this condition occurs on your 2008 model year Chevrolet Malibu vehicle within 10 years of the date your vehicle was originally placed in service or 100,000 miles, the condition will be repaired for you at no charge". I contacted gm with my information attempting to be reimbursed. After multiple phone calls and everyone telling me my VIN # was not included in the recall and there was nothing they could do I finally gave up. To add insult to injury Chevrolet sent me a letter stating "please accept this letter worth up to $100 towards your next maintenance service or repair on your 2008 Chevrolet Malibu". I will never buy another car from gm and will spread the word about this issue.

Electronic power steering fails intermittently while driving making it very difficult to steer at low speeds. Turning vehicle off and on fixes the issue. Gm issued recall for other vehicles with electronic power steering in March 2010, my vehicle was not listed on that recall although it suffers from the exact same symptoms.
