I was driving my car and my power steering light came on while on the highway and the wheel became hard to turn.

There have been multiple times now where my power steering light will turn on my dashboard, then it turns to manual steering which is very difficult to turn and almost caused me to crash my vehicle when trying to merge off to the shoulder. Seems to be more common when going 30 mph or under but has happened when going 75 mph on highway. Last time was today when I went to get new set of tires and it locked up on the technician. It will happen at random times and if I restart my car problem seems to go away for awhile.

Steering wheel locking up and shaking there is some clicking sounds in the steering wheel then the power steering light comes on I called they said it was a recall on my power steering but there is nothing they can do because the part has not been made and they cant give me a loaner because they don't have an approval to give out loaner for Malibu recall problems.

Svc: replaced bulb. 07/23 scanned for codes 3 times, checked battery/alternator. 09/11 brake job, turned rotors, ran scan, pulled bcm (passenger side) checked for fretting corrosion. 09/19 service traction finally on dic- replaced brake light switch, reset codes. 57 miles later warning back on. Scanned for codes-multiple codes. 09/20 ran scan while driving (svc traction not on dic)- multiple codes * recommended contact Chevrolet to be diagnosed - too many codes. Called chev. Customer service- referred to dealer. 10/03 @ dealer: cs request scan for codes - has stabilitrac-tcontrol on-brake light on but press brakes and lights go off-diag only perf diag test ebcm code c056100 bcm code c0277 00. *replace bpp sensor, clean apply dielectric to bcm conn. , relearn bpp sensor and clear codes. $212. 23. Letter from senator brown on behalf of constituent re concerns about 2008 Chevrolet Malibu (respond to cleveland office the consumer stated the transmission cooler lines and front hub assembly were replaced. Also, the power steering light illuminated and the headlights had condensation which caused the bulbs to blow out. The dealer found a seal around the parameter of the capsule was not properly sealed at the factory. The intermediate steering shaft and power steering control module were replaced. Also, the front seat heater switch had to be replaced, due to the heater coming on when the seat was occupied.

On August 30th my power steering light came on, I read the manual and discovered this car doesn't have power steering fluid, it has an electric power steering motor. 5 days later my steering wheel started jerking continuously while parked and while driving, it was difficult to drive. I took my car to the dealership and they said the power steering motor had gone out and it happens quiet often on these cars just as the cobalts. The cost was $465, I contacted GMC and they would not help at all, I told them I found several complaints online and that I think the power steering motor needs to be recalled on this model also and they said they do not track stuff like that. The car had 65,600 miles at failure.

Recently while I was driving the vehicle on the highway I noticed that the steering wheel started to jerk left and right pulling the vehicle in both directions. I drove to the dealer to have them look at it. As I was waiting at a stop light I then noticed the steering wheel make slight turns to the left and right by itself. I arrived at the dealership and explained what happened at which point they took the vehicle for a test drive but could not duplicate the problem. While talking to the mechanic and explaining he said it sounds like the vehicle was trying to center itself to zero calibration and suggested that I get it calibrated which I did. I then drove home and noticed that it was doing the same thing again. Returned to the dealer and they then stated that I need to have the column control module replaced at the price of $700. This is a serious problem that needs to be looked in to before something really tragic occurs. The frequency the steering wheel jerk while driving was very concerning to the point that I thought I might be involved in a crash. Thank god that did not happen.

I have a 2008 chevy Malibu lt. In March of this year the steering wheel started to jerk left and right while driving. It would also jerk while being stopped and while in park. There is also a popping sound or a clunking sound like a bad universal while turning and/or backing up. I noticed this about January of '09. The dealer replaced the brakes and rotors on the front,but the problem did not go away. On 5/12/10 the dealership replaced the left front strut and mount and the intermediate steering shaft. This did not correct the problem. The jerking in the steering wheel comes and goes,it will run fine for a while they itwill start up for a while. There is no warning when this will happen. On 5/30/10 and 5/31/10 the power steering light came on in the information center. I called gm to see if there was a recall on this and there is not. I told them that this is a safety concern and should be looked at. They said that they were looking into it. I went to the consumer affairs web ste and seen that this has been a problem since the '05 Malibus (ps control module). There were at least 7 complaints for the '08's on this site that I noticed. About a year ago there was a problem with the door locks not working properly,they would not unlock when the car was put into park nor would the remote work on them. When the left rear door outside handle was used to open the door the door would lock. The dealership could not duplicate the problem. This concerns me because the power steering is electric in this car.
