Application of brakes at all speeds causes vehicle to shudder and affects steering. Rotors and pads replaced at 17,000 miles. Problem reoccurred at 27,700 miles. Dealer ground rotors to solve problem and claimed it was normal wear and tear.

2 Brake Drum problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 07/31/2000

Auto taken to performance chev. East meadow, NY for repair invoice #cvcs28103. They state on the repair order that the loose part could have only come from the assembly line mistake. The loose bolt locked the rear wheel at highway speed, causing the car to veer off the highway.

3 Brake Drum problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 09/15/1999

First noticed at 5,500 miles car would vibrate or pulsate when brakes were applied. Dealer said front rotors were warped and replaced them. Problem repeated at 12,000 miles. Rotors replaced again. Problem repeated again at 17,500 miles. Rotors replaced again.

4 Brake Drum problem of the 1998 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 06/21/1999

Disk brake rotors are reported to be warped, causing severe shimmy when braking at freeway speeds. This is reported to be a common defect, which general motors refuses to cover under their "bumper to bumper" warranty.

Rear brakes were not adjusted properly which put more wear and tear on the front brakes, and caused vehicle to shake and steering wheel to shake, which may have resulted in loss of control. Please provide further information.

The vehicle developed rust spots on almost all exterior panels nine months after purchase. The manufacturer's body shop says the rust was due to metal flakes flying off of the brake drums and landing all over the vehicle.
