2010 chevy Malibu ltz v6 3. 6l has hard gear shift up and down around 15 mph, 35 mph, 50 mph, more noticeably at 15 and 35 mph. This problem, so I assume, also causes the car to accelerate on its own after braking and letting off of the brake to coast around these speeds. When attempting to accelerate the vehicle hesitates and then "lurches" forward into gear. I'm afraid this may cause a rear end collision. Vehicle has been taken to dealership multiple times to investigate/repair problem. Dealership and gm claim this is "normal performance" for this vehicle.

My 2002 Chevrolet Malibu shut off while driving at approximately 35 mph down an incline which leads to a rotary. All power steering and braking ability were lost. The car kept gaining speed as it drove down the incline. I had to force the car into park and use the foot emergency brake to stop it after it rolled through a stop sign and unto the rotary.

The oil light came on one minute the next minute the car cut off. I had the car towed to curtis Chevrolet in washington, DC and was told that the engine seized due to the oil regulator and filter exploded. The car has only 57500 original miles, serviced mainly by curtis Chevrolet. . . Oil recently changed by curtis yet I was told that to replace the engine would be $6,000. The car is currently considered totaled.

I notice that my coolant had to be refilled because the "low coolant" light was staying on in the dash. The repair shop told me they had to replace the intake manafold and I now have coolant in my engine and in my oil. This is a potential dangerous problem with the Malibu. The engine could blow creating other problems. The same problem has been noted with many other Malibu owners.

During inspection dealership informed the consumer that water was leaking from the head gasket. The problem was repaired.
I have had several problems with this car: I have replaced tires twice, tried to have the front end alligned because of the steering problem , it is like I have no power steering - when I took it to get the front end alligned, they told me that they couldnt do it because of the rack & pinion needed replaced first. I have called gm and was told that it was not their problem. The dealership told me that there is a recall on this and for me to contact you. I have already had to put a motor and brakes(several times) on this car. Please help me. Sincerely, amelia denson.
Engine problem.
Fuel gauge will not register a half tank or less. Vehicle has to have a full fuel tank. Also, without warning or cause vehicle will shut down, and will not restart. Dealership mechanic was baffled because he could not duplicate the problem.
2000 Malibu has died 7 times while driving dealer has replaced fuel filter and pump, radar cap ,ignition modular, ignition switch, main computer and it still dying. I have just look at all the complaint that people have and Chevrolet tells me they know nothing about them. I will never buy other one.
Severe piston slap. Dealership has replaced lifters 3 times, pistons and all other moving parts in engine once. Engine still runs very hot and has significant loss of power (I have to floor it to maintain highway speed while going uphill, etc. ).

After researching the service bulletins section of this website, I have come to realize that I have complained/had serviced about 85% of the same problems that are listed on your database. I purchased this car new, from everett Chevrolet, wa in 2000. Since the purchase. Date, I had chevy do the following: new brakes (all the way around - once, front rotors/pads - twice), all new pistons, transmission replaced, miss on #1 cylinder - replaced 1 failed spark plug, left rear door squeaks when open/shut - lubed (has happened 3 times now), front left noise from struts/brakes - not able to verify as of yet (possible strut problem/lube), fan in dashboard has a sound in the middle (just above the cd player/radio) like there is a piece of paper caught in the housing (confirmed after 4 complaints, faulty fan motor), passenger front seat squeaks when occupied (dealerships have not been able to duplicate. /fix), rearview mirror rattles while driving at highway speeds (tightened, still does it in hot weather). Bottom line, this is my first new car purchase and I am having serious doubts about keeping the car - as it only has 21,405 miles on it. With the 3/30 warranty. Coming up in oct. 2003, I am very much afraid that I have purchased a lemon and not looking forward to spending anymore time/$$$ on this vehicle. Any suggestions?.
I am trying to sell a 2001 chevolet Malibu LS for my dad who is 86 years old and cannot because of a start up noise that doesn't go away till the engine warms up. I have lost 4 buyers so far. This automobile has only 5600 miles on it. I have found a service bulletin saying there can be a noise from cylinder 1 thru 4. This is interfering with the resale of the car as no one trust it. I had it analized by the dealer and they said it was a piston slap. And it would cost around 1600. 00 dollars to fix it. Gm agreed to go half and half but then the dealer said if the piston slap had damaged the cylinder it would need a new engine. This to me is a defect that the manufactuer should be responsible for because as I stated be fore the car has only 5600 miles on it. Please contact me at 856-227-6671 if need be. Thank you.
At 15,000 miles I had a piston knock develop. Pistons were replaced and was told this was a common problem with this engine. Gas cap seal bad at same time. Deck lid not properly adjusted at time of purchase. At 25,000 the rear left speaker was replaced due not working and the torque clutch converter was coming apart and stuck in the off position. First problem was noted in 2002.
1999 Chevrolet Malibu has engine problems. While the vehicle was being serviced, the technician recommended an engine replacement.
Both engine mounts broke while driving 5 mph. Dealer notified, and made the repairs. Manufacturer was notified. Feel free to provide any further information.
Bought 2001 Chevrolet Malibu new on March 14,2001 engine started knocking around 35,000 miles. Has gradually gotten worse. Sounds like a diesel. It is either piston slap or bad lifters. Dealer would not fix issue at the time. Car continues to run. Also this vehicle has poor brakes. Replace rotors and shoes at 12,000 miles at dealer. Replaced rotors again at dealer at 30,000 miles. Currently has 111,000 miles on vehicle and is in excellent condition. Would like gm to fix engine issue at little or no cost. Brake issue is better with aftermarket parts.
While driving vehicle, it felt sluggish and fail to maintain speed. Took vehicle to dealership & was informed by mechanic one of the mounts had cracked & the other was broke. The mounts supported the engine. Had vehicle repaired.
There's a hole in cylinder, which makes vehicle hard to drive.
My 1998 chevy Malibu developed a intake manifould coolent leak at 33,xxx miles. It cost me & my extended warrantee company over $400. 00 to repair. I have found out that gm is aware of this defect but continues to sell vehicles anyway. This is fraud!.
Renee borstad, director/superintendent of the board of chosen freeholders writes on behalf of parker flores, also, 2 of the 3 engine mounts on vehicle failed, incurring damages where extensive repairs and replacement was needed.

Motor mounts/ bolts sheared off right front, causing engine to tilt and to accelerate. Dealer notified, and made repairs at consumer's cost. After contacting gm, they decided to pat for replacement parts, consumer paid for the labor charges and rental car charges.
Replaced rotors and pads10/26/2000 and02/09/2001. Replaced fuel tank sending unit 03/02/2001 replacing pistons in engine 03/05/2001.
Vehicle experiencing excessive carbon build up on the piston rings, causing engine knocking and erratic operation. Dealer notified, and repairs were made, but problem reoccurred.
Turning signals and flashers have been fixed. They want me to bring the car in on Monday so they can replace the pistons. I think they should give me another car.
