13 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 05/23/2014

I was traveling at 60 and took my foot off gas to decelerate and car wouldn't go less than 50. Engine rpm's wouldn't go below 2500. I could still stop car with brakes but this appears to be a constant problem and not intermittent like the person reported a few days ago. I checked the throttle linkage because I thought the non functioning cruise control could be affecting engine speed but neither cable kept the flap from bottoming out.

16 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2011 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 04/09/2012

I bought my 2011 Malibu ltz in April 2011. Since I bought it I have noticed, consistently, the car revs extremely high when shifting between gears while accelerating. It often times struggles to shift between 2nd and 3rd and 4th gears. The car is also rated to get up to 33 mpg highway, average of 25. I drive about 90% highway and backroads and am only getting an average of 23. 3 mpg, which is the city rating. This car has a 6 speed auto and was supposed to do better on gas than the last few models, but my 2009 Malibu with a 4 speed auto did better than this car does. Initially I figured I was doing bad on gas because I tend to be a leadfoot driver, so I made significant strides to reduce my overall speed and quick accelerations. After about 4 months now of driving slower and safer I have not seen any change in the mpg. I am about to make an appointment to get the fuel system checked out. I also have the automatic starter in my car and it has died at 25,000 miles. I don't know if this is average battery life span for it or if it is an issue, so I will be getting it checked out too.

17 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2010 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 04/08/2012

Our 2010 chevy Malibu vehicle has been stalling on the hwy and in the city, regardless of the speed limit. All dash lights turn on, vehicle starts stalling and slowing down, then trembles until the vehicle is turn off. We have had to pull to the side of the road, turn off the ignition, and wait five to ten minutes to restart the vehicle, emergency lights turned on for safety. We have encountered very hazardous circumstances with this vehicle on the hwy as well as in the city limits, always fearing that we may get hit from behind. We have taken our vehicle into the car dealer where we purchased it describing the problem, but to no avail. We are told nothing is wrong with the vehicle, and the machine finds nothing wrong with our vehicle. We have also taken our car to our vehicle mechanic, and told us it was the sensors in the gas pedal, which we had replaced for $400. 00. A week later the vehicle started doing the same thing. Again we returned to our mechanic, whom in turn took the vehicle into the Chevrolet car dealer service department; and was told that all chevy Malibu came defective from the factory with this same problem. The dealership has experience a lot of the same complaints with this type of vehicle. I have researched the internet for gm recalls on the 2010 chevy Malibu, but have found nothing. I ask why gm has not issued a recall this problem, knowing that it is a factory defect. We the consumers are stuck with making payments for years on an unsafe vehicle; an unsafe vehicle that I have to subject my family to on a daily bases. What is gm waiting for a human tragedy to happen? we need assistance in getting this hazardous problem resolved. Thank you.

19 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 01/15/2012

This is the second time I am having this problem. . . The same problem everyone else is having. . . . Car wont start due to anti theft issue. . . . Luckily my car was in a parking lot at a grocery store. This really needs to be addressed by gm because everyone I know is aware and if I am injured in an accident because this fails while driving - I will find a very good lawyer and collect all the other complainers online for this same issue and file a class action lawsuit - there are plenty enough to do so. . . . This is getting rediculous. How many people have to die before gm steps up and actually fixes the problem? they recalled for the cruise control accelerator and while I did respond and take my car in they told me mine was not an issue. . . Only to discover a year later it is an issue. . . I just deal with it like I will this one I guess. . . . Unbelievable that no one cares except the family members of the people driving these 23k dollar vehicles. . . . I cant sell the car because everyone out there knows about this problem and I would be selling a lemon. . . . Now what?.

20 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 12/20/2011

I been running errands. I stopped the car to go into the store, got back into the vehicle and the ignition would not turn over. I was stranded with my 5 year old, had to get a tow to repair shop. I was told the ignition switch was bad, cost me $347. 00. On 12/29/11 same issue, car would not start this time luckily I was at home. I had to get a tow to the repair another $51. 00 and was told the ignition switch must have had a default and I received a new ignition switch, at no charge. Two days ago, almost 2 weeks after last repair, it happened again this time in the parking lot 12 degrees outside car would not turn over called a tow to the repair shop and was told all this time it was the auto theft system was bad and caused the car to not start and also was the cause of the ignition switch to not start the car. I was charged 388. 00, plus a tow fee, for the repair of a new ignition lock cylinder( the part used a the auto theft system). Basically , this auto theft system has caused me over 700 in a month time and left me in dangerous areas with no way of getting home. This needs to reimbursed by gm because if this auto theft system was placed on the car as a benefit and protection to the owner of the car to stop theft it is not helping the owner at all only putting the owner in more harm because it is causing the owner to not be able to start the car with the key. How much since does that make? this is something extra added to the car that is not needed; that is why we have car alarms. I don't need them to add an auto theft system to my car and it stops me from being able to get into the car and drive. What if there was an emergency I needed to deal with, I have children in the home. The last time the car wouldn't start it was only 12 degrees outside and freezing cold. Please tell me how to get a petition of a recall for reimbursement for repairs. This is unsafe!.

24 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 12/01/2011

I bought a chevy Malibu new in 2003. I never knew it had any anti theft device. Three weeks ago the anti theft light came on. I ignored it. After a few days the car would not start. The engine started to run but sputtered out. I looked in the instruction manual that came with the car. It says if the anti theft light comes on (for no reason) turn ignition to on position wait ten minutes turn car off and the car will start. I followed instructions and car started. Same thing happened again yesterday. I followed instructions and car runs again. Problem I have is why would the anti theft system be activated for no reason? chevy knew this happens and this is why they have it written up in the instruction manual. If the anti theft system is faulty ie comes on for no reason and prohibits the car from starting, chevy should not have installed it in the first place.

30 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 10/02/2011

My 2003 chevy Malibu would not start. I learned that the reason it would not start was due to the theft system pass lock. Somehow the theft system was triggered and cut the fuel supply to the engine. I did what the manual said and waited 10 minutes with the key in the on position. The car started after that; however two weeks later, the car does the same thing. The process is repeated to reset the theft system. But now I wonder how many more times this problem will occur and why hasn't anything been done about a recall. . Read more...
