11 Fuel Pump problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 01/17/2014

When starting the car it would hesitate before turning over. Later it began to struggle to turn over. Now its struggling to turn over but won't. I purchased a new battery at firestone less than a month ago and the car has plenty of gas. I also took the car into firestone for a vehicle inspection the day before I bought the battery. If the cause is a defective fuel pump, the pump may seize stopping the fuel flow to the engine creating a stalling condition. A vehicle crash could occur should the engine stall while in use. Many chevy Malibu owners found that the alarm or anti-theft system had the fuel system locked and the car would not start. This happens randomly and at the most inconvenient times. The owner¿s manual said to turn the ignition key to the on position leave it on for 10 minutes, then turn it off for 5 seconds and then it started up. I have not tried this yet but I will in the morning.

12 Fuel Pump problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Malibu

I have a 2007 chevy Malibu maxx I have the engine light and service transaction. I took the car when these lights come on. They tell me it is the throttle body unit. I am disabled and don't have a lot of money. Has this part been recalled ? I read some on the internet where the fuel system had been recalled . I take my grandson to school everyday and pick him up . The light comes on and then go off. The weather is cold here. That seems to cause the light to come on. I worry about a safe car. Here is the information I pulled up. Recall id # 79907 - fuel system, gasoline:delivery:fuel pump plus full details recall date Feb 28, 2011 component fuel system, gasoline:delivery:fuel pump model affected Malibu potential units affected 4887 if there is a recall whom do I contact about this problem ?.

13 Fuel Pump problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 09/01/2012

Late summer 2012, fuel gauge started showing empty after fillup, with low fuel light & check engine light illuminating. Gauge will intermittently work in a few spots, until tank hits about 1/4 tank, where it follows good to empty. Obdii code p0463 "fuel level sensor circuit high input" car runs fine besides this. I have been resetting my trip odometer on every fillup & refilling tank at 250 to 300 miles every time since. I am not about to pay high $$$ to have this fixed now. Just got a letter for the same problem on my 2006 chevy trailblazer, & chevy will repair it now for free. Have seen several complaints for this on the 2007 Malibu, but chevy isn't covering it. Have 103,000 miles on it now, I will wait until the fuel pump goes out or chevy decides to repair it for free before I get it fixed. Whoever manufactured chevy's fuel level sensors these years did a real crappy job. In over 36 years of driving well over a million miles, these are the 1st fuel level sensors I've ever had go bad. Pretty simple technology, if made correctly.

14 Fuel Pump problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 01/10/2012

For about 3 years the theft light would come on when trying to start. Then you would have to wait 10 minutes to start. In December while driving at 60 mps the engine stopped, power steering was lost and the theft light was on. After 10 minutes the car started again. Then two times later the engine stopped while driving between 60 & 65 mph, power steering was lost. One of these times the car started up again and power steering recovered. I took the unit to the Chevrolet dealer in emporia, kansas. They said the switch needed to be replaced and that the fuel pump cuts off because of the age of the vehicle. Both need to be replaced at a cost of over $1,100 according to them. Normally the car operates great! I can't understand why a product is allowed on the market with a fuel pump that works part-time. Prior to going to the emporia Chevrolet, I explained the problem to the burlington, kansas Chevrolet dealership and they said it had to do that at the time they were checking it or they could not find out the problem. This is a disaster waiting to happen. I am glad that my wife of 4'11" was not driving it when the power steering was lost because of the engine stopping.

15 Fuel Pump problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 09/14/2011

Car will not start fuel pump shuts down, car thinks it is being broken into. Have to sit in car for 10 minutes with key in ignition to override system. Has happened 4 stimes in last month. Also, fuel pump shut down while driving on parkway- lucky to get to side of road without an accident. By the way, new fuel pump and module replaced at 60,000 so that is not the issue. . How many people need to get into accidents or die before the NHTSA gets involved and makes chevy do the right thing and replace this ignitiions and passlock parts that are defective!!!! OH, and they got a bail out- but the consumers dont get any and have to continute to pay them for repairs that they caused in the first place gm makes an astronomical amount of money on these repairs. I hope the NHTSA gets a share of that money because you certainly arent interested in correcting the situation. How many years and tens of thousands of complaints does it take???????.

16 Fuel Pump problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 06/14/2011

Purchased a used Malibu 2 years ago. My car is a 2006 model and now has over 120,000 miles on it. My car started having start- up problems. Some days I would go and try to start my car and it would not start up. This went on off and on for about two months. Finally I took the car to a shop to have checked. Right away I was told the car needed a new fuel pump. The fuel pump was changed. About a week later, I picked up my car from the shop, I went to the market and when I came out of the store, the car would not start up. I called the shop back and had to have the car towed right back to the same shop. This car eventually ended up at the same mechanic shop three times, before I finally decided either the shop was not aware of the (right problem) and changed a fuel pump that was not necessary or I needed to find a more knowledgeable mechanic shop. After taking my car to another certified shop, I was told the mechanic could not find the problem. Several hundred dollars later I am still stuck with a vehicle that will not start up everyday.

17 Fuel Pump problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 05/04/2011

My 2004 Malibu has given me problems since I first purchased it. My check engine light has always been on. If I stopped and start the car 4 or 5 times a day it would not start right away. The car has been in the shop a few times. The dealership could never found out why it was on. Recently, I've been having this knocking sound when I turn the wheel, my fuel gauge stopped working. Took it to the shop, I was told that I needed a fuel reader which came with the fuel pump. The fuel pump was good. As long as I know how much gas I have in the car I'm good. A month later the car starts but doesn't stay on. I had the car towed to the shop. It took them 24 hours to tell me that I needed to replace the fuel pump. $997. 00. This is after the computers had been going down all day. Thinking about getting a new car. Online looking at a Hyundai. Checked to see if they had any recalls. Decided to check my Malibu and see if it ever had a recall. Yes, just recenlty on the fuel pump. I wonder fi my fuel pump was part of the recall. I want my money back,.

Something is wrong with how the fuel is being received. When its in neutral it receives the fuel just fine but in reverse or drive it tries to stall out or die. We usually have to take it on a drive just to get the fuel pumping through. It's crazy and scary because when you need to pull and go it will jerk and stall and that not a good thing.

In our case, what could have happened is more extreme! after running to and from the store, our car would not restart. It happened in our own driveway--- thank god!!! from what I have read as to similar complaints on our exact vehicle's defect, we could have been in traffic! several other complaints were in life-threatening positions when their car broke down! we were fortunate!! we have since had it looked at by a friend who knows cars and is a mechanic, and he tells us that it is a defective fuel pump. He also tells us that it may also include replacing the fuel relay, but will definitely include replacing the fuel filter! with his labor cost and parts, we are looking at a cost (minimum--- barring no further complications) of around $400. 00!! the dealership would be much more!!! at this time, due to financial distress, we cannot afford to get it fixed! my wife works 20+ miles away, and I am out of work due to a heart condition! this could not have happened at a worse time financially for us!!.
