Lose Power Steering Problems of Chevrolet Malibu - part 2

I was driving to pull out of grocery store and all of a sudden lost my power steering. It goes in and out of working and steering is very difficult.

My wife was driving her 2008 Malibu when power steering and service esc lights came on the dash. She lost all power steering and had to pull off the highway. When she turned off her car and turned it back on everything worked normal. Five minutes later this same thing happened again. It seems to happen often now but the lights are all off when we take it to get it scanned. This problem was included in a recall for certain VIN numbers of this vehicle but ours was not included for some reason.

Lost of power steering while driving and stationary the steering wheel moves by it self this happened on city streets and on the highway I have to pull over shut the vehicle off and restart it . This does not always work at first imy have to do this several times and it keeps doing all the way home. I my have to pull over 4 or 5 times to make it home. This should be covered under recall id#15v064 but it is not.

My esc light came on randomly while in park and I lost power steering. Shut the car off and then back on it was fine, light went away. A few days later driving down the highway esc light comes on, wheel begins shaking and lost power control, tried to pull off and turn the car off, like before, the light will not go off. No power steering at all in my car for about 3 days.

While stationary, steering wheel in vehicle twitches back and forth while making a mechanical grinding sound. While in motion, vehicle loses power steering resulting in difficult turning both to the right and left while at low and moderate speeds.

Car upon starting would not have power steering . The owners manuel said to turn key off then on . . The power steering would come back on and car would drive fine for a few days then would happen again upon starting with error message esc service ,with a warning bell. . Then while driving one day lost all power steering . And wrecked into something while turning to the right . . Damage to front end and grill. No warning and gm doesnt want to help me get rental and transferred my case to higher department who isn't willing to help me . . Was told the rep was to busy to take my call . . Lost time at work and in dark of who's to cover the damages from faulty part . . Very dangerous and the people at gm said that if I got the repairs done that it would end my claim and car would not be repaired.

When diving I lose power steering. This has happened to me 4 times now I have had the car since April of 2018. An everything checked out in good health.

My steering wheel aggressively shakes when I'm in park, at slow speeds and at higher speeds. The �esc off� displays on the dash and I lose power steering. This use to happen rarely, but now it is almost every time I start my vehicle. Even when I'm able to start the vehicle without this warning displaying, it is still very difficult to control the vehicle at any speed due to the shaking. This started 3 years ago and has gotten progressively worse since.

While the vehicle is in motion, radio and other electrics go blank, steering wheel feels locked up but I assume it has lost power steering. This has happened multiple times. It corrects itself in few seconds but once nearly swerved into a car as the wheel would not turn.

On may 13, 2018 at aprox 7:30am, I was traveling on CT-9 highway at 55mph preparing to exit the highway when suddenly car alert chimes came on and warning message about "service power steering"and I lost power steering as I was exiting. I had difficulty making a left turn at the end of the exit and pulled over to investigate. Shut car off and inspected under hood/belts, everything ok. Restarted car and message went away and car handled normally again.

When driving you lose power steering and cant turn the wheel they have this recal on some of the Malibu cars.

The power steering light came on while driving on I-57 expressway at a speed of 55 mph and I lost my power steering. When I stoped the car and restarted it 30 minutes later the warning was gone and my power steering worked. I'm now afraid to drive my car on the expressway after reading about this same problem on a chevy Malibu forum.

In both motion as well as stationary the traction control light comes on and lose power steering.

Lost power steering on acceleration onto highway several times over the last 2 weeks. Could not steer untill it reset at speeds of 50+ mph.

When I was on my way home, my car's warning lights started to flicker, and �power steering service� and �charging system� warning lights appeared. My entire dash went completely black and steering wheel became completely hard. The car stayed on, but all the lights went off. After a few seconds, the car shut off. Car would not restart, even with a jump. Mileage on car was at 110,000 miles. Luckily I was on a residential street, so I just pushed the car safely in front of a random house. Upon further examination, this appears to be an on going problem. I've found hundreds of other owners with a similar problem on various forums. Some are very similar to my problem, while others are more dangerous. Below, I have quoted other owners personal stories as well �the contact owns a 2013 Chevrolet Malibu. While driving approximately 60 mph, the power steering malfunctioned and caused the steering wheel to become very difficult to turn in either direction. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 118,000. � �charging system" engine light keep coming on. All lights come on dash board come on then go dim. The vehicle loses power steering and the entire gauge cluster goes dark. Almost caused a wreck today. It happened twice today and once yesterday. This is getting out of hand. We recently were driving the car when we lost power steering control. This sounds very familiar to nhsta # 15v06400. Chevrolet said our car is not covered but our mechanic said that the issue in the recall was exactly what the problem was.

Lost power steering when attempting to leave the driveway. Low speed. Electric power steering unit failed. I have not received any information or recall notice for this problem. I have parked the car until I determine how best to proceed with repairs.

I lose power steering assist when I'm driving. Usually happens when the car is parked or randomly while I am driving.

Have lost all power steering, sensor is messed up, brakes are barely working, why wasn't a recall issued for all 2009 Malibus? this is beyond dangerous.

There is a problem with the steering torque sensor in my vehicle that causes my vehicle to lose power steering. The problem starts as soon as I turn on the vehicle. I was never notified of the special coverage adjustment for the power steering torque sensor in my vehicle. The problem started happening well before I reached the 150,000 mileage limit and I started taking my vehicles to shops for pricing of the issue. I was notified by one of the shops I took my vehicle to that there was this special coverage adjustment and that I should take my vehicle to my dealer. I did this but the dealer stated that they would not honor the special coverage due to my vehicle being 700 miles over the mileage limit. I also contacted my manufacturer and complained about not receiving this notification, however, the manufacturer continues to deny honoring the coverage due to my vehicle being 700 miles over. I explained to them that I had proof that I was trying to get the issue rectified at other body shops before I was over the mileage limit, however, there was still no assistance.

Tl the contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Malibu. While driving 60 mph, the vehicle suddenly lost power steering and the steering wheel locked up. There were no warning indicators illuminated before the failure. The vehicle was driven to ourisman Chevrolet of baltimore (6633 security blvd, woodlawn, MD 21207) and the contact was informed that she would have to pay to have it diagnosed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. In 2014, the vehicle was repaired per NHTSA campaign number: 14v153000 (steering). The manufacturer was contacted and informed the contact to file a complaint with NHTSA. The failure mileage was 105,181.

While I was driving I lost power steering and was unable to steer safely.

Lost power steering suddenly while driving. Although chevy recall the 2006-2007 Malibu for that issue, mine car is not on that list. Very sad.

There is a problem with the power steering in the car. It was recalled in 2015 because the power steering could stop working at any time. I took the car in in 2015 and was told it was fixed. Now recently the car loses its power steering when starting the car. The car has been stationary and I know enough not to drive it, but it has happened a few times now over the past two days, where the power steering is enabled. This is the same problem that was recalled in 2015 under safety recall number 14772. What is the next step to get this fixed again because this is a safety concern and a known issue that is now reoccurring and should be covered under this recall still.

While in park and the vehicle is stationary, the steering wheel is constantly shaking all by itself, upon driving the vehicle while in motion, it sporadically loses the power steering capabilities and feels like its losing control of the wheels.

I lost power steering while driving. My esc light came on at the same time as a warning about my power steering. This has happened intermittently since 1/19/18. It is very hard to control the car at this point, of course and is a safety issue. My car is also very well-maintained.

My 2009 chevy Malibu has lost power steering three times in the last year and a half. I each time, I took it to the dealer to be "fixed", but even after they said it was fixed the first and second time, it happened again. The first and third time it happened, I was on a busy road traveling at 50 miles per hour and driving straight. The second time it happened, I was driving about 10 miles per hour, and going around a corner. I almost collided with a tree because I could not complete the turn. When the car loses power steering, I absolutely cannot turn the wheel. This has placed me in very dangerous situations. The car is under 150,000 miles, so it qualifies for the special warranty, but it is approaching the limit, and the dealership indicated that if it happens after 150,000 miles, I will have to pay for the repair. I am concerned that I have had it "fixed" three times and it continues to happen. I have two small children, and it has lost power steering while they are in the car with me.

Left store and care was driving fine, lost power steering and esc light came on. Was able to pull over. Cut car off and turned back on and issue was fixed. As soon I as pulled in my garage, I lost power steering again. It's dangerous especially when you are driving down the road in traffic.

My 2009 Malibu has an intermittent steering and traction control problem. I was turning into my driveway (under 10mph) and lost power steering and traction control, almost hit our snowmobile trailer the first time. The message center displayed both. There is a recall (recall number 14v153000) for other 2009 Malibu's for the electric power steering but not for the 4 cylinder model like mine. This is a common safety problem with gm and I done understand why some cars with the same safety problems and parts were excluded from the recall.

Lost power steering ability-turns off and on at certain times. Occurs while driving or is already on immediate to starting car. Very difficult to turn wheel. All other VIN's were fixed or replaced by gm for this exact same problem.

While the vehicle is in motion the radio screen would flash off and on followed by lose of power steering the car was parked and towed to a local dealership to be inspected.

Vehicle looses steering at low speeds. Previously had a extended service campaign that they never had parts for. Expired now but a recall on other same make and model of the same year. This is a serious safety issue and needs reexamined. Called gm and they are not concerned about loss of steering. Was driving and had to make a turn at 5 mph lost power steering and signal chimed. Was unable to complete turn almost caused accident on city street.

Takata recall. This recall has been closed, but the problem persists. Gm was said to have fixed the problem in may,2014. Vehicle has been taken in after the recall date, and told its closed. Problem still occurs, not fixed. Told by chevy that if there is more repairs to be done, it is not covered by recall and I will have to pay out of pocket. Same problem it had before but the bcm was never replaced. I was driving and lost all power steering. Warning came across stated power steering & service esc. Had to stop, shut off engine, start car, problem went away for 2 minutes and happened again. I had my daughter with me at the time. Scary.

I was driving on the highway when esc light came on and completely lost power steering on the highway where there was snow and ice. Had to pull of to the side of the road almost getting into an accident.
