8 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 10/29/2018

Steering wheel will sometime wiggle back and forth on its own while stationary out some times while driving and while driving sometimes feels like it is trying to turn on its own, info panel popped up saying"power steering". Turned the car off and looked under to see if fluid was leaking, it was not. Turned the car back on and steering was fine for a while then jerky again, seems similar to torque sensor recall for other Malibus but my VIN is not listed as having that recall.

9 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 10/02/2015

I took my car in on 9/3/15 for a recall on power steering torque sensor assembly, a brake component, and gear shift cable. My car had the issue of loosing power steering prior to me bringing it in on one occasion. After getting my car serviced at chuck hutton chevy in memphis, TN for the recalls only one week later my car began making whining, grinding noises every time I turned the wheel. I first thought the car needed power steering fluid, however I was advised that since my car had an eps I couldn't put power steering fluid in the vehicle. I decided to take the car back to chuck hutton because I was not told when they did the repairs that anything else was wrong with my car. I assumed perhaps a mistake was made and a bolt was not put on properly. When I took the car back I was told that the car needed a power steering rack, new tires, and wheel alignment. My tires on my car are barely 6 months old and you can now see the thread and prior to taking my car to get the recalls done on it I had my car fully serviced in August. I feel that my car was tampered with. The servicing agent told me my car was leaking power steering fluid and the ps rack was badly worn down. But my car has an electric pump and their is no fluid to leak as the supervisor told me when I came to him to resolve my concerns. Yes, I tried to resolve the issue with the supervisor but was brushed off and told my car was old. As baldly as my car sounds I feel that if it was really wear and tear they would have seen it when they looked at my car the first time and notified me. I wasn't notified leaving me to believe my car was tampered with so that I would have to bring it back for expensive repairs. If not then what needs to be fixed could have caused an accident and killed me or my children because they didn't notify me there was a problem when I took it to them. Either they are negligent or crooked.

11 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2009 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 04/16/2012

Power steering - when turning the steering wheel, you feel non-smooth condition, unusual humming or moaning noise. Some power steering fluid had to be replaced but no noticeable leak is evident. Had private auto mechanic look into problem and he advised to let dealer take care of it because they have the computerized equipment to make appropriate repairs. Auto mechanic stated that he has experienced similar complaints about the chevy Malibu. Chevy dealer checked problem and advised us to wait for problem no "worsen" because any diagnostic work will cost us "a lot of money" wondering if NHTSA has similar complaints on file because I'm concerned about any safety issue?.

12 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 03/12/2012

I just purchased my 2006 Chevrolet Malibu about a month ago. It had really low miles for a car that old( (99939 at the time of purchase). I love my car and it has done nothing really to anger me. I got a power steering warning through my radio display. The car drove normal so I paid it little or no attention. The one day I walked to the car and noticed that there was fluid leaking from under the car. Since I only had the car a very short time I took it to the warranty center to be looked at, they put my car on the computer and no defect codes came up. The mechanic asked me what color was the fluid that was leaking, like I would remember that! I told him I didn't know. Put a white piece of paper underneath there and wait a little while. The shop has had my car over a day and can tell me nothing. I am not one of those people that waits on something to happen. Warning lights and defect codes pop up for a reason. The reason I don't know but I will eventually. With all I have read on the internet about the steering all the problems started with defect codes. Is there a serious problem with the steering or with the fault display system?.

18 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 1998 Chevrolet Malibu

I noticed a rough feel to the steering wheel when making short turns. I took it to the dealer to inspect . They said I needed a new steering gear and that the mechanism was leaking fluid. When I contacted gm they told me they have no record of any problems with the steering mechanisms in their database. They did offer to share the cost 50-50(over $900!!) as a good will gesture as the car is now out of warantee. (woopee!!)I also reported my tail lights go out from time to time but the dealer says he couldn't find a problem.
