1 Steering Anti-theft Device problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 11/10/2018

My car shuts off while I'm driving it, when I try to turn it on it won't turn on. I could smell gas but it won't turn on. It's a hazard when I'm on the highway and it just cut off on me and I'm stuck in the middle lane with incoming traffic. I took it to a mechanic and could not find any issues with any other parts of the vehicle my fuel pump is in great condition my tune ups are up to date I don't know if it is the anti-theft affiliated with my key ignition please advise.

2 Steering Anti-theft Device problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 05/19/2017

The anti theft system disabled the car on the tappan zee bridge, with no place to stop and 18 wheelers going by me at 60+mph. I had to shut the ignition off, turn it back on and wait 10 minutes for the anti-theft to disable, so I could turn the ignition off and reset the anti-theft and start the car. Talking about scared to death. Happy I am still alive to report this. It was in motion 55mph and stopped running, anti theft started to blink.

We purchased a 2012 Chevrolet Malibu sept. 2014 and it has been serviced 3 x due to the power steering locking up while driving and failure to start several times. 4 Steering Anti-theft Device problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 02/10/2015

I was driving as normal with no incident, parked went into home and came out 10 minutes later, car would not crank, as if battery was dead. . Went back in to get a multi-meter and checked battery, showed 12. 3 volts. Went back into car and it cranked right up , no hesitation. Next day went to get my grand-daughter (2 years old) and parked at her home. Loaded the baby-seat, and went to start car, dead battery symptom again. Jumped the car from my daughter and went tom walmart to have battery checked. Battery and charge system checked fine. Tried to start the car after test, acted like a dead battery again. Walmart tech said looks like a bad starter motor. I purchased a new starter and installed. Cranked on first hit. Checked charging amps while running, 13. 4 volts. Went 25 miles to town. Parked and after 2 hours came back to car and would not crank. (turned motor once then click click. Click. ) got a ride home and checked internet for probable cause, seems like hundreds (thousands) have the same situation. I feel the anti-theft system is cutting off power to car. I tried the fix that I found, lock, unlock, lock unlock car with key then wait 10 minutes and crank the car. It worked. I pulled away from my lodge and went down the road. Stopped, made a right turn heading for a traffic light and the car died in the middle of the road. Could not turn the steering wheel, no electrical signs other than anti theft light flashing on dash. Tried repetitively to start the car but again just click click. Click. If I had been on the thru-way, it would probably been an accident. Further search on internet shows this a major problem, but no recall is found. Why???.

5 Steering Anti-theft Device problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 11/10/2014

Car will not start. Solid "theft" light comes on dashboard and car will not turn over, or if it turns over, will cut out shortly after. This anti-theft issue causes the power steering and brakes to disable, and am not able to turn the steering wheel. Have also had car stall out in traffic and lose all power. Had to have car towed several times due to the issue. I have tried several fixes and mechanical repairs, but this issue continues to get worse. No matter what I try and do, at random times, my car will not start, while the "theft" light comes on and completely disables my vehicle. And sometimes while driving, the car just shuts off. I am the original owner of the vehicle, and am using an original key to start the car. I do not have any type of security system installed in my car. There is no reason for the "theft" light to come on when I am just trying to start my vehicle, not steal it. The ignition recall for my specific vehicle only involves replacing the keys, but this anti-theft issue, which I and other Chevrolet Malibu owners are experiencing, is a serious safety issue that could cause a crash or other accident to occur if it causes the car to cut out (lose power) for no reason while driving, and at the same time disabling the steering and braking systems. This should definitely be a safety recall.

The car anti-theft light come on, the steering wheel sometimes freeze up. This car sometimes turns on and off by itself, yes the key need not be inside. The brakes are horrible and I spent funds to change it. Help!!! this car seems to be a recall big time.

8 Steering Anti-theft Device problem of the 1998 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 11/15/2007

Anti theft system malfunction in my 1998 chevy Malibu has caused turmoil and hardships. The system malfunctions regularly and strands me in not so safe places. It is much more dangerous to sit in my car in a dark parking lot then to have it stolen. Sometimes after the 10 minute wait, the ignition still doesn't turn over, and im waiting another 10 minutes, and then again. Last night it took 4 hours for it to go off. Needless to say I was very late for work. I have read thousands of complaints on this issue, and this should be recalled. It is dangerous to chevy's consumers, a horrible engineering idea, and they should be ashamed of themselves for not recalling this dangerous issue.

12 Steering Anti-theft Device problem of the 1997 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 01/03/2004

When driving my 1997 chevy Malibu, I turned left and the steering wheel locked. I almost crashed into a parked car due to the fact that I couldn't move the steering wheel at all. When I tried getting the steering wheel to move again, it wouldnt budge right but when trying left it would make a "hissing" sound, like air pressure being released. This happened at 10pm and I had passengers in the vehicle, this could have been catastrophic. This happened suddenly with no warning whatsoever. I am going back to the dealer ASAP.

13 Steering Anti-theft Device problem of the 1998 Chevrolet Malibu

I have a anti-theft lock that came with the vehicle,I have been stuck several times due to the anti-theft going on and I cannot start the car for atleast 20 min. At a time. I have been late for work and appointments also. I need to know should I try to take vehicle in to remove anti-theft,if possible, if I the owner with the key cannot start the car I guess a theft would have a hard time also. So in one way I like the feature. Would like to know if this is a standard feature in these vehicles? and if it is worth having?.
