I am the owner of a 1997 chevy Malibu. One day while I was driving around town, it was raining, and my windshield wiper arm flew off of the car. I looked up recalls on your site and found that there is a recall for the problem I have. I contacted Chevrolet and they told me that there is no such recall for my car. I don't feel I should have to pay for replacement parts if there is a recall on defective parts. The NHTSA campaign id # is 01v068000.
There is a recall on my 1997 chevy Malibu for the windshield wipers and I have had them break do to the recall but the dealer in my town will not cover the recall because I do not have the VIN number that is listed in the recalls and I live in the state of missouri. Just because someone has not reported it from missouri about this happening does not mean it should not be covered. The exact thing that is said to happen to the wipers on the recall has happened to mine and it will cost me 150. 00 to replace the whole system that broke. I want this problem fixed so I can get my car fixed. Please ad missouri to the list and also all chevy Malibus in 1997 should be covered under this recall as it has happened to me. !!!.
While driving 25 mph, in inclement weather the passenger side windshield wiper failed. The driver was able to maintain control of the vehicle and drove it to the dealer for inspection. (1) I was driving home on I-75 an hour north of atlanta after labor day weekend. While doing 70-75 mph in heavy rains and winds from the leading edge of hurricane frances, my windshield wipers suddenly failed leaving windshield awash in rain and visibility less than 6 feet. The passenger side winsheild wiper arm snapped first in the vertial position, then the driver side windshield wiper arm ran over top of it breaking it too. Trecherous driving conditions were endured in attempting to get off interstate. I was left to drive with nearly no visibility through hurricane frances for 3 more hours until I made it far enough to get out of the storm. 3) when back home in louisville, I took the car to service center to get estimate and fixed since it was predicted to rain soon. The failure was diagnosed to the windshield wiper linkages breaking. I have been in contact with gm customer assistance center to try to get gm to cover the cost of the repairs. I searched safety recall database here and came accross open investigation for this part that failed. Therefore I decided to make a complaint also. Rq04006. This part was recalled in 2001 but only in 28 northern states.
The windshield wiper linkage failed. A recall has been issued however, the vehicle identification number was not included.
Windshield wiper linkage system cracked while in use during a heavy rain causing both wipers to fail. I was on interstate 65 traveling at 55mph. Visibilty after the incident diminished to approx 20-30 feet. I was able to keep the car under control and pull to the roadside. *akhowever I don't think an inexperienced driver would have been so lucky under those conditions,, weather, speed, traffic. . . I searched for any recall notices from chevy on this and found one, 01v068000. Why wasn't my state listed in the group to notify? there is a real danger in the plastic design of the wiper mount. Please take another look at the defect in the design and have chevy notify all of us Malibu owners of the potential for danger. . . Thank you phlecia partain.
