36 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

Failure Date: 07/19/2015

I got into the vehicle to go to church Sunday with my mother-in-law. I turned the key in the ignition and there was an explosion from under the hood that made the hood jump and some smoke came out of the sides. It scared my mother-in-law half to death. Our company mechanic checked the engine and determined the intake had exploded. He checked on-line as to a probable cause and discovered there was a recall on various pontiac, Buick and chevy vehicles with 3. 8l engines due to intake explosions due to faulty fuel pressure regulators. In some cases it seems to have bent a fuel rail and pulled an injector out of the head, which it looks to have done to mine also. He towed the vehicle to the dealership and they told him there were 3 recalls listed for this car and that was not one of them. One of the listed recalls was for the ignition which we took it in for and it still sticks. Our mechanic checked your web-site and did find recalls for this explosion problem. Some of the statements people posted about this happening resulted in fires as well as the explosion so this seems to be a significant hazard. Why is our car not listed with the dealer for this recall ? though it is titled as a 2001 it was manufactured in 09/00 so seems it should be included in the recall, especially since it did the exact same thing as the others. They want over $700 to fix the intake, regulator and gasket and I should not be liable for what is apparently a manufacturers defect, and that's if it didn't cause more damage when it exploded.

Failure Date: 05/22/2015

So when we went to start the car, the car would not start we replaced the battery then we replaced the alternator. After looking some stuff up online we realized that it was neither of these things it was actually the passlock security. It is now locked us out and we cannot get the car started unless we go and have a whole new ignition tumbler keys and I believe it is the bcm reprogrammed. This is obviously a malfunction in the car and I don't believe that I should have to pay $300 for a malfunction I don't know if you all can help me but anything at this point in time would be helpful.

42 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

Failure Date: 04/04/2015

During the process of starting the vehicle: first attempt to start the vehicle, it didn't start. The second attempt to start the vehicle, there was a loud bang (explosion) under the hood with an odor of 'burnt plastic'. Upon looking at the engine, the black plastic intake maniford had a hole it from the explosion. This is the second occurance in 3 months. I have replaced this intake this past winter and this occured again last weekend. It seems in my research that gm is ignoring this defect and will not offer a fix to the problem. Gm knows this is happening especially with "cold starts" but has yet addressed.

50 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

Failure Date: 06/30/2014

We have been having problems with our car starting. The battery has been replaced. We have disconnected then reconnected the battery, sometimes this works to start the car other times it does not. The power locks no longer work. One day the security light comes on, sometimes its not yesterday, we couldn't even get the car to start. Today, the car was running and the cluster gauges were not even working. We bought this car brand new out of the showroom. What a lemon it turned out to be. Sadly, it now sits in our driveway as it is not dependable to drive anywhere. There is a recall to replace the key rings, and an inset in the key slot or a cover on the key head instead gm should be recalling these models to replace the ignitions, since there are other people posting online about these same issues.

Immediatley hosed it down to put out the fire, and now there is a hole in the top of the engine. After extensive research, found out a recall back in 09 that was causing this same exact issue. Found several people with the same year make and model vehicle, that this same exact situation happend to, and it was due to the recall. In 2010 stockton Chevrolet replaced sparkplug retainers on a recall issue, which was linked to the same recall.
