The contact owns a 2002 Chevrolet Monte Carlo. The contact heard a knocking noise in the steering column everytime he turned the wheel. The dealer was able to duplicate the failure, but could not determine the cause. The contact was informed that the only way it could be repaired was by taking the steering column apart for inspection. The vehicle was out of warranty; therefore, the repairs may have to be made at the contact's expense. He received a recall notice for the spark plugs and now an oil leak is present. 2 Engine Knocking Noise problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

Failure Date: 05/10/2004

When driving at an undetermined speed consumer heard a knocking noise coming from the engine. Consumer took the vehicle to the dealership for inspection, and mechanic determined that the engine failed.

3 Engine Knocking Noise problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

While driving consumer heard a knocking noise from the vehicle engine. Consumer took vehicle for service. Mechanic indicated that the type of oil used is not heavy enough to lubricate the bearings which results in engine damage. Consumer states that" this was the type of oil told to use in the vehicle owner's manual". Ts.
