The cable harness in question runs from the fuse box under hood through firewall to the passenger side foot area. At this point it connects to another harness that connects to various items at the rear of the vehicle. One circuit in particular the rear window defogger is burning wiring and socket and plug of the two wiring harness. Either the wiring or connectors burned apart without the circuit fuse blowing. The circuit has a 40amp fuse. The wiring harness for this circuit is 12 garage. I can't find any manufacturer who recommends using 12 gauge wire on a 40 amp circuit. This isn't even close to being correct. This is so agreegessly out of specification it would appear gm knew they had an issue with the circuit and fixed it by over fusing the circuit. This same issue on multiple models over several years.

The contact owns a 2002 Chevrolet Monte Carlo. The contact stated that the head lamp lenses had been oxidized and that there was a film build up which affected the visibility of the low beams while the vehicle was in motion causing the lighting to be dim. The contact also stated that the key less entry function failed intermittently and that upon entering the vehicle, it would not start. The contact was able to utilize the owners manual to override the system by either disconnecting and reconnecting the battery cable or resetting the computer. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The VIN was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 2,400.

Just purchased the car, drove him with no problems, went for another drive right after the blinkers inside nor outside the car would work, they at times would work after this then just not work again, after doing research about this problem I learned the hazzard switch was the problem and making the blinkers not work at times, I roach the hazzard switch now the blinkers are just fine.

1. )cannot drive with the brights on because it will unexpectedly trigger all lights to fail and you will be driving blind in the complete pitch black night. 2. )the speedometer, gas gauge, and temp gauge haven't worked since about 75,000 miles. I purchased this car brand new and have had it serviced as needed. This is a factory defect, not something that was caused somehow by me. I think that it is ridiculous that I have to deal with these defects with my own money when I specifically purchased a brand new car so I didn't have to deal with problems of the vehicle that one would associate with a used vehicle. The brights issue could literally kill people, I'm sure it probably has.

Tl-the contact owns a 2000 Chevrolet Monte Carlo. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 35 mph, the security light was illuminated while driving, and stays on even when locking the vehicle doors. The vehicle was completely shut off, would not restart, and eventually restarted. The failure recurred on multiple occasions, the vehicle was taken to a independent mechanic and was diagnosed with a wiring defect. The vehicle was not repaired, the approximate failure mileage was 170,000. Rw.
As driving at 45 mph during rush hour, I used my indicator to change lanes. This is a road that has 3 lanes. I was changing lanes into the middle. I had my stereo on at a normal volume with my baby in the car. As I started to move into the middle lane so did another car from the 3rd lane. I was being honked at by several cars. As I tried to recover, I was almost hit by the car moving into the middle lane and almost caused a bigger accident by trying to recover back into the lane I was in. It was at this point I realized my indicators had suddenly stopped working. I didn't know what to do. After 20 minutes of drivingthe indicators suddenly came back on. Four days later I was in the same situation. Navigating the roads without indicators. Out of panic I hit the hazards. The lights all turned on with the hazard button. I turned it off and now the indicators were working again. Well that must have been a one time thing. Every time the indicators have gone out since, nothing works to get them working again.

The power windows stopped working ,and then the security system wouldn't let me start the car. Also the car started running hot for no reason at all.
A yr. Aft. I bought my 2005 Monte Carlo, things began going wrong with it. First 2 things to go:the cruise control & re-window defroster. The next yr, while driving at night on the interstate, I switched my lights to brights & within seconds I had no lights at all! this could of caused a very bad accident, I was able to quickly switch the lights back to dim & luckily they came back on. Since then, I no longer use the bright lights, for fear of my lights not coming back on. Then it seemed like everything went haywire after that, odometer showed that I was going 110, gas gauge quit & temp gauge registered past 260. Not a fun night to be driving, not knowing my correct speed, how much gas I had, if my car was going to overheat or have no lights! since 6/15/2012 the tach now registers between 6000-7000 rpms & none of the gauges are working properly. My car also smells like it has an exhaust or fuel leak which comes thru the vents, it makes me sick & gives me headaches. I took it to a dealer a yr. Ago, paid $98. 00 for them to tell me they couldn't find a problem. To this day, my car still smells like gasoline, I pray it doesn't catch on fire. Tonight I've been researching these problems & found that the faulty gauges is a very common problem with these cars & quite expensive to fix. I feel chevy should be held responsible for repairing this problem & all the others, after all they're the ones who built a car with many serious problems. This is very unfair for the many consumers out there who have spent their hard earned money to buy this car. Not everyone can afford to get this fixed along with paying the car payment. I don't understand why they can't be made to take care of this. What would have to happen in order to make them pay? what's listed above? a crash, fire, injury or death? shouldn't have to be that way, something needs to be done before any of that happens!.
Head lights on my Monte Carlo 2002 there has always been something not right. When I bought the car one night when I was driving out the highway and all of a sudden the lights just go off scaring me to death. In a few seconds they came back on. I have had this do this to me several times I bought the car in 2003. Now on August 28th 2010 I had went to a friends house and later that night when I went to leave the lights didn't work at all unless I held the light switch on the column for bright or dim. So now that is the only way I have head lights now if I hold the switch on the steering column so I don't go to far at night. Don't have the money to fix them. There needs to be a recall on this I also know someone else that has a Monte Carlo and has the same problem but hers just goes off on her like mine use to.
No crashes but my chevy Monte Carlo 05 has a problem it seems like the high beams are on a timer and shut down the lights while driving. I know of one other person that had this problem. How many more are there? I wont let my kids even use the car after dusk.
When my wife or I attempt to turn on the high beams in a poorly lit area/region the lights shut off completely. We almost entirely lost where we were on the road and had to slow down and make an abrupt stop. After playing with the switch for a couple moments we finally got the high beams on. Now, a car comes from the other side we attempt to power off the high beams and switch back to low beams and the car stays stuck with high beams on and we are now blinding on coming traffic. Fortunately there was no accident involved, however, either event could have easily led to an accident especially if it were to happen in adverse weather. Please advise as this should be a recall.
2005 Monte Carlo LS directionals and hazards quit working.
Last night while driving locally both headlamps suddenly stopped working. The parking lights worked but I could not manually or automatically get the headlamps to work.
I began having trouble with this car a few months after I purchased it. I can't drive the car at night with the lights on bright, because when I do the lights shut completely off and the only way to get them to come back on is to flip the dimmer switch. I have been on the interstate and highway both, driving the posted speed limit when this has happened. This problem, in my opinion is a big hazard and very unsafe. I had to have the cruise control switch replaced, the instrument panel replaced, because it failed completely while I was going on vacation, I had no idea how much gas was in my car or what speed I was going all gauges were out of whack. The car smells like gasoline, I've taken this to the dealer auto repair shop, they claim they can't find the problem, even though they could smell the gas both on the outside and inside of car. There was a recall on the key, I took into dealer and they put a cover over the old key, I personally don't understand how that was supposed to take care of whatever the problem was. I have noticed that others on here have listed similar complaints about this car. What I'd like to know is, if there are so many people having the exact same problems with these cars, why hasn't there been a recall issued? I can't speak for anyone else, but I paid hard earned money for this car and I'm sick and tired of having to constantly repair stuff, which seems to be a big problem on this make and model. I think something needs to be done before someone gets seriously injured or worse. And it shouldn't take someone's life before something is done about this.
Headlamps continue to fill with moisture and now water leaking in after every rainfall. Headlamps in danger of failing and lights obscured by vapor. Have removed, dried out, no cracks or seals broken but problem persists. Other complaints from gm owners with same problem have experienced complete electrical failure for same problem.
My 2004 Chevrolet Monte Carlo ss s/c which I purchased new has been experiencing poor dimmer switch operation for over a year. The issue is that when clicking from low to high beam or vice versa, the switch has a spungy feel like it wants to brake and the lights will not activate to desired high or low. Often takes several tries before lights dim or go to high beam. Sometimes they go out briefly. Gm was contacted and I was given a case number 71-690473858. They instructed me to have local dealership diagnosis problem. Dealership determined it was an internal fault in the multifunction switch. Quoted price of $536. 18 plus $126. 00 labor to repair. I was charged $22. 47 for this diagnosis. Gm wanted to settle for 50% of cost to me. I did not accept because I cannot afford this nor do I believe it is due to my use of switch. I feel it is gm's defect and they should repair without cost. Talking with CO-workers, I have found 3 others who are experiencing the exact same problem. 2 own Monte Carlos and 1 owns a malibu. Also, atleast 1 of our gm passenger vans at work which is a 2007 has the same issue. I believe this to be a common problem with gm multifunction switches no matter what vehicle.
The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Monte Carlo. The contact stated that the vehicle shut off and would not restart. The vehicle was driving abnormally and the transmission did not shift when the vehicle was cold. The brain, pcm, wheel bearings, and ic shaft were replaced. Also, on one occasion while driving at an unknown speed, the interior and exterior lights dimmed and the vehicle had to be shut off and restarted in order for the lights to illuminate again. The current mileage was 40,000 and failure mileage was 34,800.
Light switch and high beam is defective in steering column.
I to have a 2002 Monte Carlo ss,that when driving at night the lights, inside and out, flicker on and off. Other cars coming at me can also see this.

Brakes require excessive stopping distances when wet, creating for very dangerous conditions when conditions are wet. You apply brakes and there is nothing for several seconds and conditions worsen with time. Dealer was contacted they say everything ok no problems they said they adjusted rear brakes no difference. Also all lights go on and off without warning randomly.
