Purchased a Chevrolet Monte Carlo new in 2002. On 9/29/06, I had to take the vehicle in for repairs due to non-functioning turn signals and hazard light. The required repair involved replacement of a hazard light switch which is the conduit for the turn signals as well. Hazard light switch had been used very slightly over last four years, however recently used for a constant 25 minutes prior to switch failure. I consider this to be faulty considering the little use. Also, noticed on NHTSA web site that around the 2000 - 2003 time period other gm models were recalled for faulty hazard light switch and suspect that it's a manufacturing problem.
The contact owns a 2002 Chevrolet Monte Carlo. The contact stated that the turn signals work intermittently. In addition, the hazard lights would not illuminate when the turn signals failed. As of September 20, 2007, the dealer had not inspected the vehicle. The failure mileage was 70,000 and current mileage was 82,000.
I have intermittently working turn signals. I have contacted my local dealer on numerous occasions. There is a recall on the hazard switch that affects the same year of manufacture products that have the same problem as me, intermittent turn signal loss. I have followed the advice of the dealership, that, when this occurs, lightly press the hazard switch, and then if the turn signal starts functioning, that means I have the same defective switch as the other affected make of chevy cars that are under recall. Well, lightly pressing the hazard switch does makes my turn signals function normally. According to a gm plant employee, my car has the same electrical components that the other cars under recall affected models have. Why is my car not considered "under recall"? the dealership will charge me to have it repaired, until this is a recall issue.

Turn signals fail intermittently. Pressing hazard warning switch off/on while/after placing turn signal in either (right/left turn) positions will eventually get the turn signals operating.
The contact stated the turn signals and hazard lights worked intermittently. The dealership was contacted. They were aware of other Chevrolet vehicles which had a problem with the wiring switch in the steering column. However, there were no recalls. No repairs have been made, and the problem was progressively getting worse.
Flasher hazard switch and gas gauge indicator were found to be issues in the past but I was not notified of any type of recall. Both of these issues are present in my 2000 Monte Carlo. I purchased a replacement flasher switch at a local dealer and nothing was said about a recall. I have not yet replaced the switch. I purchased the car new and feel if gm knew about this issue, I should have been contacted long ago to have this issue rectified.
