3 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

Failure Date: 03/06/2009

The contact owns a 2000 Chevrolet Monte Carlo. The contact stated that the sensor in her egr would catch fire. While driving approximately 50 mph, the vehicle began to smoke and smelled of burnt plastic. She depressed the accelerator pedal and felt as if she were pushing on air. The contact heard air blowing so she took the vehicle to a mechanic. The mechanic discovered that the sensor was completely melted and he repaired the vehicle. However, the issue recurred two days later. The mechanic could not determine what caused the failure. The vehicle has not been repaired for the second failure and the dealer and manufacturer have not been notified. The VIN was unknown. The current and failure mileages were approximately 221,000.

4 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

Failure Date: 10/18/2008

I have an 2003 Monte Carlo ss 3. 8 . I have had loss of power . It wont go past 4 grand on the tac. I have replaced the plugs and plug wires, coils, fuel filter, idle sensor, tps sensor, egr, I have had the fuel pump pressure check it is 55 psi. I think it may be the catalytic converter. I noticed they were recalled on the 01 & 02 models why not the 03 models?.

5 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

Failure Date: 04/16/2008

Bought car at 29k in June 2007. Around 36k the transmission sensor between the gas line and the transmission decided to override my breaking. Nearly killed me because the car would not stop. (had to put in neutral to maintain control). Had to fight with chevy to get warranty fix for several weeks. Around 41k the car decided that the temp outside was -38 or -40 degrees and would insist on running heat during summer. Was told computer was bad and would have to spend $$$$ to fix (and asked why I would buy a car with a bad computer!). Around 145k oil pressure sensor went out--in less thn15 k, am now having to replace 4th one. There are several other weird issues with this vehicle that are well documented with my mechanic. And now finally get recall notice and told the best fix is to have key by itself with nothing else--fob away from key. I suspect this car is a lemon that has cost me thousands of dollars in repairs.

6 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

Failure Date: 04/14/2006

Engine failure on a 2000 Monte Carlo ss with only 60,000 miles. I realize I was out of warrenty, but to have to replace an entire engine that basically disintegrated from under me is not something I ever thought I would have to do on this vehicle. I am left hung out to dry by gm.

7 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

Failure Date: 01/15/2003

My vehicle needed to have the upper and lower intake manifold gaskets, egr, plugs, new coolant, oil & filter replaced. Dealer said egr burnt through "plastic" and this is how I got leaks. Car smelled like it was burning. At first car would continually stall, even when driving. Then it started blowing out white smoke and then would not start at all. I am furious over this. My car is out of the 3 years warranty. It has 52,000 miles and has been very well taken care of. Contacted gm only to be told they would not offer any cost assistance because I don't have records of doing my own oil changes. If I were to have taken the car for every oil change at the dealer where there would be a record, they might have considered offering help. My car has always had oil changes every 3,000 miles. There is an online petition right now with over 2,200 signatures for the problem with the intake manifold gasket leaks. Gm is well aware of this problem and they are turning their backs on us consumers. If there wasn't a problem with the gaskets, then why have them come out with an upgraded gasket part? I would love to send you my service history along with the letter I wrote to gm regarding this problem.

8 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 1998 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

The vehicle has an internal coolant leak within the engine compartment. The leak occurred because the intake manifold gasket was made with a thin material which disintegrated and created an orange slug in the engine, per the dealership.

9 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 1998 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

Vehicle sporadically hesitates on acceleration. Does not matter if engine is cold or warm. Symptoms also happen at speed and it feels like the engine is not receiving enough gasoline to operate at speed. Engine has shut off by itself at idle in gear two times. Computer has not set any codes. Plugs and wires replaced. No help with the problem. Engine will usually turn to normal within 15 to 20 seconds of episode. During episode pressure on gas pedal does not result in acceleration. Mechanic reluctant to replace components (I. E tps, egr, etc. ) since no codes have appeared and confidence low as to which componet (if any) is causing the problem. Problem particularly bothersome when pulling into traffic as vehicle will not always accelerate to speed as anticipated. *****dimsii ivoq entry poster after 12/12/02 cut-over to artemis****764525.
