36 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

Failure Date: 03/03/2005

Effects of problems due to head gaskets and intake manifold: (1)burning smell coming from the engine; (2)minor breathing problems, diziness, and lightheadedness; (3)soar throat irritation and tiredness while driving. (4)causes heavy use of gas, bad gas milage, and coolant is used up very quickly and becomes brown and slimey. Solution: I was told that 2000 chevy Monte Carlo's had problems with the gaskets and intake manifolds. Numerous 2000 models seem to have this issue but were never recalled. My warranty company paid for the parts to be fixed it just never seems to be corrected right. However, I feel it is highly dangerous and could be a safety problem causing people to fall asleep at the wheel. The burning smell that comes from the gaskets is very odorous, causes dizziness, breathing irritation/problems and if it does this to an adult I could only imagine the damage it could do to a child. It also makes you tired. I fought to stay awake because of this problem.

Both places said that there was a coolant leak in the engine. Consumer has not fixed the problem yet. Was waiting to see if gm was going to issue a recall. Consumer contacted the dealership and manufacturer. The manufacturer said that there was still an open recall on those vehicles. Consumer did not have a recall number, and system was not showing a recall on the engine. The representative from gm told the consumer about the recall. The recall was on a coolant in the engine that may leak. Gm was the one who told the consumer that he was not included in the recall.

Intake manifold gasket - coolant leaking from it. Car is a 2001 Chevrolet Monte Carlo with 36, 370 miles on it. All I am getting from dealer is that it is out of warranty. I am furious!!!.

41 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

Failure Date: 07/01/2004

My security system has gone on spuradically for years and I have no idea why. I have paid several times x3 for a wrecker serfvices to come and activate my car so it would run. Also as I have learned about recalls recntly I had to replace the upper gasget manifold due to it leaking oil due to a plastic gasket instead of a rubber gasket. This ran me more than 900 dollars. I have never received a recall notice for any defect/recall on my monte despite buying it new in 10/2002. Please send me directly any recalls on my vehicle that have occurred. Thx.

42 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem of the 1996 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

Failure Date: 03/18/2004

Due to intake manifold gasket leak (this is the fourth time for this problem on this vehicle) I had to stop to add coolant in order to safely drive the vehicle. Had I not noticed the problem this potentially could have left me stranded on the side of the highway. After getting to a safe location I had the vehicle towed to a dealer for repair. Also, as I stated above this is my fourth time dealing with this issue; in addition, I know of personally 3 other vehicles with the same engine that have had the same problem and they too have changed the intake gasket several times.

43 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

Failure Date: 03/09/2004

I have a 01 chvy. Monte carlo which only has 36550 miles. I had smelled antifreeze about a week ago. And the dealer said it was the inner manifold gasket, said they changed it. That next day I still noticed the smell. I took it in on Monday they are saying that there was a recall for the throttle body. Which is news to me,cause they never told me this. Well my husband is a mechanic ,he said tey didnt change what they said they would. That there is so much dust around the bolts. These people have lied the entire time. Im in the same boat as the other people here that have the same problem with the engine coolant. This is so wrong.

44 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

Failure Date: 03/06/2004

I purchased this car in 09/01 it has been a problem ever since. Front end needed to be rebuilt at 1200 miles and then again at 2000 miles. Air conditioner has been a constant problem (I was told I needed to park some place else) the manifold gaskets had to be replaced at 48000 miles and now the wiper switch has gone bad. The front end feels real bad, but they claim there is nothing wrong. Just waiting for the front end to fall out from underneath the car on a hot, rainy, July morning. I'm going back to Ford. Oh yeah forgot, paint went bad 1 year after I bought it. Gm says I drove through something.

45 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

Failure Date: 03/05/2004

Intake manifold coolant leak on 3. 1 engine, with a cost of $ 650. 00 for this repair. Seems to be a common occurence with all the 3. 1 liter engines. Maybe it's time gm stepped up to the plate, and took a look at this problem. No wonder imports are becoming more popular!!!.

46 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

Failure Date: 01/23/2004

At 31k intake manifold gasket and trans pan gasket are leaking according to Chevrolet dealership. Auto has the 3. 1 l. Engine. Dealership not overly concerned and this appears to be normal for a Monte Carlo. Initially the trans pan gasket repair was considered an owner maintenance responsibility rather than a covered extended warranty item. After speaking with dealership and advantage a 2nd time, it was determined that the repair was to be covered through the warranty. In my opinion, Chevrolet doesn't want to stand behind its product. I am very disappointed and will definitely never buy another gm product.

47 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

Failure Date: 01/16/2004

48 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

Failure Date: 01/07/2004

Intake manifold coolant leak, happened to my 3. 1 engine, and to several of my friends, each with the 3. 1 engine. Each stated a cost of $ 650. 00 for this repair, seems this happens to all the 3. 1 liter engines, shouldn't Chevrolet own up to this problem? when it happens to a select few thats one thing, when it happens to all of then is it not a design flaw?.

3. 1 engine intake manifold gasket leak. This problem started just out of warranty and was able to keep the car going till now with stop leak. Just look on the net there"s thousands of people like us . 56 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem of the 1997 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

Failure Date: 02/17/2003

My 1997 Monte Carlo is in need of an intake manifold gasket replacement. Why isn't this a gm recall? the repair cost is $800 and my internet research shows that this is a prevalent problem in gm cars. My car is unsafe to drive until the repair is complete. The engine could catch fire or freeze up while driving. Gm needs to recall these defective plastic gaskets immediately before someone gets killed!.

60 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

Failure Date: 12/15/2002

My 2001 Monte Carlo ss developed a leak between the upper plastic intake manifold and lower aluminium intake manifold. I stopped at a dealer and asked them about it and they said they knew of no problem but when I asked them how much to repair they replied about $800 without looking at the car. I contacted gm customer service and they told me to take the car to a dealer for an estimate, which I did. They then talked with the dealer and came to the conclusion that there was nothing they could do for me. In the meantime I did some research and found that this is a common problem with a technical service bulletin out on it. Gm customer service and the dealer said that since this is not a safety issue nothing could be done because the car is out of warranty and that I should have purchased the extended warranty. So I was stuck paying a garage $880 to replace both manifolds as directed in the TSB and the worry that my year and a half old car my launch its motor at anytime due to the contamination of the oil with antifreeze from the leak.

61 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

Failure Date: 11/01/2002

I own a 01 Monte Carlo and 40,000 miles I started getting an anti-freeze leak. My dealership informed me it was a leak in the intake manifold. They also told me they see 2-3 Monte Carlo's a month in with this problem and 5-6 malibu's and lumina's with the same problem. They want $600 to fix since it is past the warrenty. If chevy knows of the problem they should fix it. I did some research and the intake manifold I need is on a 2 month back order due to so many problems. I have only had the car 1 1/2 years.

62 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

Failure Date: 10/15/2002

Engine found to have three oil leaks that have been present for well over a year. A local dealership found caked oil from leaks in the a/c compressor (passenger side front), front crank sensor (passenger>side rear) and the intake manifold (driver side rear). They also stated that the car was too new to have that much caked up oil and that I should contact the dealership I purchased my vehicle from (along with my three previous vehicles). Three separate oil leaks in a 2000 vehicle is not normal or expected.

66 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem of the 1996 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

Failure Date: 01/26/2002

When I purchased this car, it was the car of my dreams. I had it for less than 2 weeks, when I noticed sludge in the oil and around the cap. I was told that it was condensation! it wasn't. It was the intake manifold gasket. When I first complained to sunshine Ford, where I bought the car, it was still under warranty. When it finally blew, thank god 10 feet from my driveway, it was 300 miles over the warranty. I had nothing but problems trying to get them to fix it. They diagnosed it wrong to begin with! it ended up costing me around 250. 00. Two weeks after I got the car back I was doing 65 on the highway, when something big dropped out from under my car. It was the computer and the front guard! they charged me for that too. Now, I started up the car the other day and heard a muffler noise in the front down in the engine. My drivers side manifold is cracked all the way around! needless to say, this is another $6-700. 00 I have to put in this car! also, my steering column, turn signals shorted out, were replaced, but I still get surging in my lights. I am not at all happy with this car, or chevy. Oh! and let's not forget the snapped frame on the front driver seat!.
